Subject says it all, what is your preference? and if you have remapped the controls from default how did you do it? Personally I always use manual shift in sims but I can't figure out a way to make it work comfortably on the controller yet for DC

Always manually. Remapped the control to throttle and gas R, shifting L2/R2, L1 look back, R1 nitrous. Directional buttons are my camera views.

OR

Same as above, except, make R my shifting and L2 brake, R2 throttle.

EDIT

Realized this was a thread in the Drive Club section...... DOH!

Always automatic. I used to always use manual in GT with L2/R2 and brake/accelerate on right stick. Unfortunately, that is not an option in DC (yet), so I couldn't even use manual, even if I wanted to. I doubt I would switch if they added that option because I can't imagine it being worth it. Brake/Accelerate on L2/R2 is simply superior control over having both of them on the right stick and I don't think being able to shift manually would offset that. Not in this game, in my opinion.

However, if this was GT, it would definitely be manual.

brake/accelerator on right stick prevents you from using both at the same time though, which is useful to 'settle' the car, or don't you find that an issue in DC?

This option was added along with the weather update afaik, I've been using the right analogue stick for acceleration/braking for weeks now.

I use Auto for drift / manual for race but sometimes I switch to default settings if the car has KERS/DRS (at the moment only the mclaren p1).

Automatic for me, you can overwrite the gears though so that's good enough for me, find manual is useful when using a wheel only.

Not at all. In this game, I find it very beneficial to be able to brake and accelerate at the same time.

Oh, was it? Doesn't matter, though. Like I said, I prefer the ability to brake and accelerate at the same time in this game.

Doesn't matter if you using Manual or Automatic in this game because you have the same speed. And it's better to use Automatic because you have better traction in out of corner. Using Manual only make things harder when going for World Records

Really, I hadn't noticed - to be fair though, it's been a while since I used automatic, so it could have been patched. I tend to like using manual and staying on the edge by feathering whilst going through corners. I might well give automatic a go.

I was challenging some records on Leaderboard and started to using manual to improve my times and what i discover was weird. While on manual i was loosing traction of my car while exiting the corner. But on manual with the same approach and speed car had more traction. And also when i'm on Manual the gears shift and downshift automatically when i reach certain RPM. And i can still shift and downshift while on automatic. For me it's easier using Auto on Dualshock 4. Good it's arcade style racing game, far from simulation. :) I absolutely love it

I always use manual because I have a easier time driving fast with manual gears and I am a wheel user

Manual all the way. I agree about the benefit of short shifting.

There's for me a logical button config (for those who haven't been able to switch to a wheel): L2/R2 for pedals, square for downshift and X for upshift.

i drive with a manual all the time in gran turismo, but im able to because of the default button layout. i use the default button layout for driveclub and i just dont feel im too uncoordinated to do manual trans, especially with the game feels in comparison (not a bad thing im just not good enough lol)

Try the following:

Throttle: R2
Brake: Right stick down
Gear down: L2
Gear up: Square

Automatic. As I'm using the DS4, I need the triggers for Accel/Brake. Can't use the sticks, never have been able to adjust to them. X and O are completely useless for modern driving games now they've reverted back to on/off.

Also, I'm not losing time driving with this setup on auto... so I can just enjoy the drive without having to shift, which suits me down to the ground with arcade racers.

Of course, if I'm on a racer that's more simulation oriented, I would be manual every day of the week. It is a problem with the DS4 though. I would be using a wheel for simulations though. T300 arrives next week, ready for PCars!

My button layout is exactly the same as in test drive unlimited 2. If anyone's struggling to set up their own layout try the following...

Accelerate : R2
Brake : L1
Gear Up : Triangle
Gear Down : Circle
Handbrake : Square
Change View: R1
KERS : L1
DRS : Cross
Right/Left : Left Stick

Also I shift manually all the time...

Manual.
T80 Steering wheel.

Or most of the time.

Manual
Dualshock 4.

Accelerate: R2
Brake: L2
Gear Up: R1
Gear Down: R2
Handbrake: Circle
Change View: Square
KERS: X
DRS: Triangle

I use manual on every game bar Driveclub, Engine noise is just to quiet in dashboard cam for me to be able to tell when to shift properly.
