I think we should hear a gear stick sound when changing gears in gt , with mt cars , even in need for speed 5 i could hear that:( , (which i think was and still is a great racing game/sim) i sometimes drive with the hud off with a g27 , in cockpit view and hearing that would be nice. Also the hand movements of the drivers are not synced properly with the gear changes. They're usually late when changing gears.

There are many sounds that should be in GT that can be heard in real life. On many cars it's possible to hear noises from the gearbox itself when engaging gears (on most cars it's quite audible when the engine is turned off). Pedals also make noises (especially the brake pedal when ABS is engaged - due to the brake pump).

Keyholders can make noise on sudden G changes! There's potential for customization there. Then wipers (in GT5 they're silent), rain (you can't really hear the sound of raindrops falling on the car), chassis noises when going over a bump or landing after a short jump, etc.

These are only small examples. The sound experience in GT5 is pretty much sterile, lacks many of the small details existing in real life.

Maybe while they are doing the research to add realistic gear-change sounds they'll notice that in most street cars it actually takes longer than .000007 nanoseconds to change gears.

It is strange that this isn't in there, I mean the code has been there if we remember the laboring peugeot 905 changes(I haven't got in GT5, is it the same?). A nice long gear change on muscle car would be appropriate too.

But some sound would be great, that lovely almost clicky sound on modern H pattern supercars or even the clicking of paddles would add to the experience nicely.

I believe with most Super GT cars or at least the Premium ones whether they're the GT300 or the GT500 ones, you do hear the gear change- not the stick sound but the actual gear. Personally I don't think you should hear the sound of the stick shifting simply because it's the sound you're producing (whilst shifting). To have it reproduce like it does in NFS is a bit peculiar.

What you hear in GT5 is a sort of "hack" (gearbox whine noise temporarily and shortly amplified in volume) supposed to simulate gear engagement noise, but it's not exactly like the real thing.

...rain (you can't really hear the sound of raindrops falling on the car)...

You can hear it clearly if you come to a full stop, sounds rather good imo, although it's inaudible when driving fast.

:dopey:

That is the sound of the rain falling on the road, not the car.

Sounds like rain hitting metal & glass to me, I stopped on Nurburg Ring 24h when it was raining heavy & listened for a while not long ago, using cockpit cam of course.

I took a quiet car and I think you're right. The rain sound switches to the generic "rain on asphalt sound" when using the external camera, but with internal cameras it sounds like rain hitting metal & glass. Still, I think it's too much subdued and not much detailed compared to the real thing. I guess that the detail put on it is proportional to the scope that weather (rain) has in the game.

Sounds are very subdued in GT5, especially wind noise, they got that right in Prologue, go figure!
