Gearing not tunable in AE86?

I've been driving the AE86 at the nurburgring and I've noticed that the gearing seems very off. Even with the final drive set all the way to "acceleration" and all gears set all the way in the same direction, I'm going to 102 mph in SECOND gear... and I can barely max out third on the straight. Am I the only one with this problem? I have a stage 3 drive train and shortened final drive upgrades. I'm playing on the ps3, and I have the first (!) patch. Thanks!

This is happening to me too. Is it another glitch? Anybody else with the 86 have a fix or workaround?
