Hello all. I've got a question. For a while, I've been looking for a decent video card at reasonable price. I think I've found it. A GeForce FX5200 128MB AGP video card. All that for $99.88 USD.

Here it is.

Is this a good card/deal?

I have a GeForce Fx5200 myself, its a pretty slow video card when it comes to todays "high end" games. But it is good for overall surfing the internet and graphics applications. For that price, I think its overpriced. On ebay, just get a Fx5600 256mb for an extra 20 dollars.

Btw if you are buying the 5200, I think you are going to need to overclock it a bit so itll run a little faster.

My bro just got an Apollo FX5200 128MB, and it's okay. It'll run all the stuff, just not with the settings cranked. He has OCed to 302MHz core and 384MHz memory, so far. Gets stuck if he raises the core any higher and Coolbits wont let him raise the memory any more, so he'll probably look for a different OCing tool.

Anyways. If you are getting a FX5200, don't buy it from a store like that, instead, go online.

You could do like my brother did and get a 5200 for about $70, but it doesn't sky rocket benchmarks or anything. At current settings it only gets 52xx in 3dmarks2001. Now, after playing with it I would deffinatly go with a 5200 Ultra. Common 3dmark2k1 scores for it are over 10,000.

Here is one, the only one at this store, for $100. BFG nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 ULTRA Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ASLM52128U" -RETAIL.

I'd probably go with that if I were you.

You guys are crazy. It's more than good enough for just surfing the web. For crap's sake ... it's a 128MB video card!

Also, it can be had for as little as $60 from Circuit City. At that price it's definitely worth buying.

He didn't say wether or not if he'd be playing games, so I make a guess. If he is a gamer, he might consider something like a 5200 ultra, but for browsing the web and everyday junk, even for mild gaming the FX5200 is more than enough.

Something about the $60 from CC. It might be 64-bit memory, which as we all know is a large no no. Make sure to get a 128-bit.

I've played UT2k4 demo, just had to put it down to 800x600 and lower a few settings to "normal". So, it'd most likely be plenty enough.

Here is what my brother bought, so I have some experence with it. I know it can OC somewhat and stuff, and that it's only $63.

I'm not an avid gamer, but I do plan on playing a few games. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Halo to be exact. But I don't want it to be the best settings in the game etc... And from what I read on the site, the card is 128bit.

Because, emad, the FX5200 is better than the 9200 and the 9600, unless you get an SE which is trash, is out of price range.

Integra, if you're going to spend $100 I'd get the FX5200 Ultra I posted from NewEgg.com. They do a lot better than the FX5200, and since it'd be the same price...

Hmm, if your going to run those 2 games on an Fx5200, your gonna need to put it to 640 resolution. Would you mind posting your computer specs? My bro has the same exact video card as me but his runs solid on UT2003 and 2004. To get a stable speed running, your going to need a combination of processor speed and video card speed.

Thanks, Burnout. I'll talk to my dad about it tonight.

Im guessing you want processor speed and ram? In that case, AMD Athlon Thunderbird XP (I think thats the full name) 1200+ (1.2Ghz) processor and 512MB of SDRAM. As of now I have 32MB of onboard video (:() If you need any more info just let me know. :)

I can sort of help with the UT2k4 questions.

My computer is a Athlon 1600+ OCed to 2000+ with 384MB RAM runnin gat 316MHz with a GF2 MX200 video card(hey, OCed to 211MHz core and 381MHz RAM :dopey: ). I play UT2k4, although I have to turn it down to 800x600 16bit and lower quality settings in the game, some all the way down to lowest, but it plays. My brother has a P4 2.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM @800MHz, FX5200. He runs UT2k4 at 800x600 32bit with settings pretty decently set(he has grass!). So, seeing how my system can run it, I think we can say your system with a fx5200 should be able to run it. I can't say much for Halo, as I've never even seen it on a computer.

Question for you - You know if you have an AGP port, right? And, what speed is it?

I can play UT2k4 right now, but it doesn't look the way it should ;). And it is a little slow, but still very playable.

I'm currently playing Battlefield Vietnam with a 5200FX and its fine it could be better but for moderate graphics its good.

I got mad at my brother because his UT looked so much nicer than mine. If you got the FX5200 Ultra you would be able to do some seriouser stuff.

AGP slot, how fast is it)1x, 2x, 4x, 8x)?

I have a GF FX 5200 also. My core is set to 290mhz and the memory is at 483mhz. Works great. My monitor needs an upgrade, right now it's running 60hz :( not good for gaming.

Do you have heatsinks on the memory? What was the stock?

Well damn. CompUSA didn't have the FX5200Ultra. :( I'm happy with this card, though. It does what I want it to do and it does it well. :) Also, I'm pretty sure the box said that it was DX9 compatible.
