The Genesis GMR-001 LMDh has turned heads in its maiden year of competition.

Some time in 2024, Hyundai Motorsport have announced plans to compete in the FIA WEC with a Hypercar program, using its upscale Genesis brand which had a strong intent to go racing, especially on the global stage. This later led to the formation of the racing team, Genesis Magma Racing, and their first ever racing machine, the GMR-001, which is an LMDh that uses an Oreca chassis.

It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.2-litre V8 engine paired to a specially-prepared hybrid system for use in LMDh vehicles, and is a rather unique engine as this is said to be formed using two of the same engine blocks from the Hyundai i20 N Rally1 currently competing in the WRC.

As for its aerodynamic design, Genesis have skillfully combined form and function by merging their art-deco inspired "Two Lines" design language with the fundamentals of an LMDh, and paired with its red, orange and yellow gradient livery with the Korean Hangul characters for "magma" embossed all over the bodywork, has created a visually striking machine that is instantly recognizable from the grid.

And come 2026, the GMR-001 was ready for prime time, with Genesis being the very first South Korean manufacturer and racing team to compete in the FIA WEC, with an IMSA program planned in the near future.
