Swiss design studio Rinspeed always brings an off-the-wall concept car to its home motor show, and it's excelled itself with the car being readied for Geneva next spring.

The eXasis - which celebrates Rinspeed's 30th anniversary - is a plastic hot rod which looks as if it's made from glass. Its insect-like body and floor pan are fully transparent, 'as if it hadn't arrived fully yet in the material world', says Rinspeed boss Frank M Rinderknecht; it allows an uninterrupted view of the external environment as it speeds along.

Its power will be very tangible, though: it is fitted with a lightweight supercharged two-cylinder 750cc engine developing 150bhp, more than enough to propel its 750kg body. The engine runs on bioethanol, reducing overall carbon dioxide emissions.

The eXasis's styling, with open wheels, a cigar-shaped body and tandem seating, has been influenced by both the vintage Auto Union racers and modern Baja desert-racing dune buggies.

However, as an engineering student, I've gotta admit, this is kinda cool.

''it allows an uninterrupted view of the external environment as it speeds along'' - there is a much simpler way, don't fit it with any bodykits at all.

i'll take ariel atom anytime.

Uninterrupted view of your passenger's panties, more likely...

Cool, but not as outrageous as some other RinSpeed creations.

So could be put in a sig as a quote! :sly:

As Jim said, its cool from an engineering standpoint, but not exactly practical or that unique in my minds eye.
