I have a question why has Sony not released an add mentioning RROD? It just dawned on me this could be huge!

Imagine a commercial with things breaking down and people angrily screeming at the respective items: a car (smoking), radio (buzzing), coffee maker (silent), MP3 player (zune error message), computer (windows blue screen), 360 (RROD "33% failure rate"). Then the add would cut to a family playing a PS3 and the screen would say "1% failure rate" "Just thought you should know".

Or have shots of people failing at things (in slow motion) and looks of severe disappointment on their faces: Missing a baseball, letting a soccer goal, hockey goal, F on a school test, missing a bus, getting killed by a character in COD or even better Halo, then RROD. Then cut to a shot of someone awesomely killing someone in KZ2. Then the screen would say "PS3, failure is not an option."

This would absolutely murder MS if pushed hard enough. I would also do these more tastefully than the MAC adverts.

BTW I do not want to start a flame war or whatever and I could see my comments as being inflammatory. I think highly of both systems and you should to. So please no PS3/360 teh rules comments, just what you think of my idea.

I think it would spark a little outrage.

A company should try to make their product look great rather than rubbish the competitors product instead. That said, I am sure there are many companies out there who would use such tactics.

yeah I know its sleazy, but hell, its not like it is making some false claim or exaggerating something. Like I said, it would have to be more tasteful than the MAC adverts.

Because Sony isn't Apple.

Edit: *Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

And Microsoft could retaliate with testimonials of the original 60 GB PS3s models dying. I know they brought out those laptop hunter ads panning Macs for being too expensive. :)

I thought the recent GM commercial about better fuel economy or something across the line being better than Honda was funny though. The punchline was that Honda's only edge over GM were self-propelled lawn mowers.

Because that would damage what little relationships they do have with such companies. The one thing you do not do when advertising is advertise your product purely by slagging off your competitors, just because they are your competitors now does not mean they will be in future.

Also, if you aren't careful, you could be in line to be taken to court over it, depending on how badly you say the compeititor is, if its skewing the facts then it won't be taken kindly.

Sony isn't run by 16 year olds, which is why this would never happen.

Also, there is no way to determine the exact percentage of units that would have failed from the initial batch of 360s for the first few years. Attaching a "number" to those consoles, without solid proof, could very well be considered Slander, and is illegal in the US (and may be in other countries as well).

You have to admit, it would be funny. Whenever I try to tell someone that the PS3 is a good purchase I have this one Xbox fanboy (a freind of mine) try to tell them otherwise, that is when I throw out the RRoD card. Everyone of my friends that have an Xbox 360, has had to send their 360 back to the factory, including myself. Some of us more then once. I don't personally know anyone who has had to send back their PS3, knock on wood. Don't get me wrong, I still like the 360, for Forza2 and Import Tuner Challenge (Tokyo Xtreme Racer), but I just wished they had a better product. But I guess it makes since, Sony is a hardware company, and Microsoft is a software company.
