OK I have got quite a few Bloodhound Gang tracks, and I have no idea where I should put them under.I currently have them listed under alternative, but theres noway their alternative.I was thinking about making a comedy file them.
Any suggestions what I should do?

Underneath most music stores and sellers, the Bloodhound Gang is referred to as an Alternative style group. I'd stick with that, because I hate small folders showing little to no artists.

i dont use folders..........everything is in one big folder called NEW STUFF, this pile of songs include bloodhound gang

I use folders but I do have a "new folder" and "new music" these are suppose to be temporary until I place them in the right folder but I got lazy and they grew. It's gotten so out of hand... :( :irked: Same thing for the Videos, I got a "new car vid" folder. :banghead:

I know what you mean.My shared folder, and temp folder's must have like 30 songs each in them.

I fixed my problem with were to stick Bloodhound Gang.I just made a sub folder in alternative to put it.I would of just kept it where it was,but when I want to listen to alternative I really don't want to hear that style of music.

Alternative shouldn't even be a genre. The Bloodhound Gang a mix between hip-hop, punk, funk, rock and a bunch of other stuff.

Good luck filing it in one folder.

Well I see that not everyone here is a BloodHound gang fan,oh well.
Anyways I just got a Fun Lovin' Criminals cd,and was wondering what I should but it under. I'm thinking either Hip Hop, or Alternative, any ideas on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Hip-hop, punk, funk, and rock united altogether are what you call rapcore. I really do not like rapcore bands. However, the only rapcore band I like is Rage Against The Machine.

The best classification for this would be "funk-metal" IMO, along with bands like 311 or even older Red Hot Chili Peppers and such.

311 is actually a mixture of funk-metal, ska-metal, rap-metal, and punk-reggae. Hmm, maybe these combinations would also be rapcore. But I still like 311.

As for the older Red Hot Chili Peppers, they were funk-metal. But nowadays, they have blended into a softer version of funk-metal. Nevertheless, the Chili Peppers are still one of my favorite bands.

I know what 311 is...I was merely suggesting a genre that would be the most appropriate without being overly-specific. Just my opinion:)

This is why genre classification is pointless. It's tough to pigeonhole many bands into one genre.

Not every song by Bloodhound Gang can be considered rapcore. They have plenty of rap-ish songs, plenty of punk-ish songs, and plenty of rock-ish songs.

If you wanted to do it right, you'd have to group individual songs into a genre folder--not just the entire artist.

Boo, genre classify everything.

Even if it means making up a new genre, it's not very hard. Just get the words, alternative, metal, punk and core. Then just add some random word infront, or behind one of the afforementioned words and then you have an entire new genre of music to explore.

Examples.
Camel Alternative
Anal Metal
Prostrate Punk
PieCore

See!

Well, actually, I am almost to the level of being an expert of genre classifying. And no, there is no soul coughing :dunce:

Well, I know grindcore, goregrind, gore metal, industrial, heavy metal, death metal, thrash metal, speed metal, rapcore, metalcore, speedcore, and so forth but there is no soul coughing.

Enough said. Do not try to rub it in or mug yourself :p

Oh, I should have explained that Soul Coughing was the name of a BAND. It is not a GENRE. I thought this was obvious due to the context of my post; I was mistaken.

What genre does Soul Coughing fit into. And name me one band who fits into the experimental noise genre. Also, explain the difference between Jungle and Drum'n'Bass.

Dunce this.

Soul Coughing's genre is a mixture of phat hip-hop beats, lazy jazz, wide-open rock, and crazy samples manipulated through a keyboard computer contraption so this band generally fused this type of music via a computer.

One example for experimental music is Cabaret Voltaire. They undergone many experimentations in fusing industrial and dance together in the 70's.

And as for the difference between Jungle and Drum'n'Bass, Jungle is catchy electronic vibes fused with a little bit of some trip-hop. Drum'n'Bass, on the other hand, is electronic drums fused with keyboards.

Alright, no more questioning me about genres.

Oh God no... That is ....... Oh..... What?!?!..... You are full of it.....

Those are terrible definitions....

"keyboard computer contraption"

"Part Keyboard!... Part Computer!.... It's!!!.... Keyboard Computer Contraption!!!"

Seriously though, you're a little over your head here.....

"this band generally fused this type of music via a computer."

That's how they fused it, huh?.... nuff said...

"Jungle is catchy electronic vibes fused with a little bit of some trip-hop"

Where do you get this trite nonsense?... Jungle is a type of Drum & Bass, usually envoking more of an urban feel, with throbbing subbass overtones (of course this is an extremely simplified explanation, for the purposes of this argument)......

"Drum'n'Bass, on the other hand, is electronic drums fused with keyboards."

Drum & Bass has nothing to do with the mellody that accompanies it, whether it be Keyboard or not.... The genre title is merely describing the beat structure, and nothing more....

If you don't know something, don't make stuff up.... read, research, learn.....

We don't want to spread ignorance, now do we?.....

Klos has made some good points.... Genre definitions are there so people can categorize, alphabetize, and store music (as well as other silly reasons)...... Some groups are genre defining..... Some groups are genre breaking, and can only be associated with various genres.... They cannot be lumped into categories, because the creators do not have any genre in mind when creating the music.......

That's called ART, my friend....

;)

well thanks? everyone
I suppose I'll just leave it in my Hip Hop folder.

Oh and good luck on classifying Soul Coughing.I.v had there El Oso CD sense it first came out,and I still don't know what the hell kind of music it is,but I still like them none the less.
