So last night I found myself in a series of races against one GTP_Sphinx. Which was quite awesome, even more so when i noticed the [GB] at the end of his name! that wouldn't normally be exciting, except for the fact that it says [US] at the end of mine!

So then one would assume the regional barriers are down? I didn't DL any update, and i was surprised when i didn't see any threads about this. so did i just beat the system somehow or was it changed?

I'd wager Sphinx was using his US version. His [GB] tag would simply be because his IP resolves to the UK.
 
If I played my NTSC-J version, I'd appear as Famine3h [GB] there too...
 
I haven't seen anything like this, but I REALLY hope it's true.

Not that it's a great comparison, but I recently played the new wii mario kart at a friend's house, and the online mode is usually made up people from all over the world. Some people from japan were really kicking my ass. Anyways, that game ran amazingly smooth, no jerky cars etc. I imagine part of this is because of how much simpler and fewer calculations need to be made, but it just gives me much needed hope there's room for massive improvement in GT5 online.
 
I am playing a US PSN Store copy and my IP and location is Iceland, but it shows up as [US] for me :(
 
Its nothing to do with the IP or location of your PS3.
It depends on the account youre using.

But as I thought at least the Time-Trials were International I wonder why there are no US players on the FUJI 700PP TT rankings... ?

Can any US player confirm I am in Top 10 on this leaderbord ?
 
No matter your region, if you play that NTSC version, you'll show up in the NTSC online racing with your country code. Took me a while to figure that out but Sphinx explained it to me last time I saw him.
 
Yes, I was using the NA version of GT5P and racing under my GB PSN tag, GTP_Sphinx. 👍

um... it might just be because I am in Minnesota. I race people from Canada every race online.

The U.S. version is really the North American version. We all play people from canada.
And also it seems like I race you all the time Kensei. Always a good race with you.
