it may improve performance and in some cases it can make a connection work that isn't but if you're just looking to lower your ping, it's not worth opening a massive security hole to do it. A dmz leaves every single port on your router wide open to hackers. Don't use it unless you absolutely have to.

Don't sticky this. There are too many drawbacks to using a dmz to justify using it. Learn a bit about your router and learn how to forward ports instead.

I'm confused... why are people talking about compromising other things?
It is possible to not put everything in direct, & have it open security wide to the internet?

Of course personally, I think it just makes more sense to hook the ps3 into your modem router (if your ISP provides that), and just not your bridged (wireless) router.
And problem solved, in most cases.
That's assuming the problem is being caused by your extra device... which from what I've noticed, that's usually what's causing the problem for most people regarding this issue... is that they've got router on top of router all kluged & the ps3 plugged into it all. :boggled:
