I am currently looking for a new keyboard, something to replace my mediocre Logitech K360.

I am thinking of getting a mechanical one, possibly a Corsair K90 or CM Storm QuickFire Pro or Trigger.

Should I go for one of the three I chose? Or if there is something better, tell me. It is hard for me to decide what mechanical keyboard I should buy.

I don't mind what Cherry MX switch it has, but it would be best for me not to have Cherry MX Black. I also type quite a bit and I play some games too. It is also best if it is under £90, but £100 and under is just about fine if there is a good reason to get one that expensive.

Thanks for reading.

I'd say it's all about the feeling of each keyboard.

I tried a Razer Blackwidow with MX blue switches and loved the feel. It was very noisy, though. I'm probably more of an MX brown user; the feel of a blue switch, but with slightly less noise.

Be careful with the gaming branded products, however. Especially Razer products can cost quite a bit because apparently it's professional gaming material. Just don't fall for this trap too easily.

I'd say go to your store and try some keyboards, and decide which switches you like best. Then go for a price within the range of the switches you liked best.

I've been looking again lately and I still can't see past the Das Keyboard and Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja (worst name for a product EVER but I think it's Japanese), they're both around £100. I think I prefer the latter. You can get it with or without the keypad, with or without the legends printed on the side of the key rather than the top (that's what the Ninja bit is about) and it's nice and minimal, like the Das. I hate all this 'gaming' stuff with its flashy LEDs and LCD screens, what a waste of electrons! Personal taste, of course.

I have a Filco Tenkeyless with Cherry MX browns (a nice compromise for general typing and gaming; quite versatile IMO) and then took a gamble on a CM Storm Quick Fire Pro with browns as I wanted backlighting. Plus it was on sale for $60. I think it compares favorably to the Filco in feel, though the housing isn't quite as nice. As for features, the Quick Fire Pro offers high polling rates (not that I can tell the difference) and true N-key rollover. It also has a Windows key lock, which I appreciate.

The new Quick Fire TK also looks really appealing as I like the smaller form factor.

There are no stores for me to try some out, which is unfortunate.

Razer keyboards are almost everywhere. If you feel like finding one, they usually have the arrow keys able to be messed about with in the box. From that you'd be able to get a decent idea of what Cherry MX Blues feel like. They all feel relatively the same though in terms of Reds, Blue, Blacks, Browns. They just have different key forces, or sound to them. I have a Razer Blackwidow that I bought forever ago and I love it.

I've been looking into one of these with Blues (CM Quick Fire tenkeyless), I looked at a Razer but I don't really want or need a keyboard that wide, and the font on it looks a bit silly (not that the CM's font doesn't either).

That being said, I'll probably jump at whichever goes on sale on newegg Canada. Leaning towards the Quickfire though.

I am personally not interested in the Razer Blackwidow. I am not a huge fan of the looks. I also heard that it isn't the best quality of all the mechanical keyboards to choose from.

I am also leaning a bit more towards the Corsair K90. Is that a good keyboard? Is it worth that £90-£100 price?

BTW: I also need a numpad so all tenkeyless keyboards are out of the question.

Just pulled the trigger on a CM Quickfire with Cherry MX Blues 👍

I have the Corsair K90, I like it.

No faults with it.

It does not have that clackity clack clack noise when typing.

The Blackwidow isn't the best quality for a mechanical keyboard. But it is better quality than any non-mechanical keyboard regardless of price. The keycaps are fairly solid as well, though some cheapness can be found in the lack of n-key rollover and some of the stabilizers can be a bit off at times. On sale it is still one of the best values. The standard that is, the Ultimate isn't worth it for just some lights.

Not sure if you can get Ducky products over there, but their full size boards are pretty good from what I've heard. I believe Casio has one but I may be mistaken.

I think I covered just about everything else in the thread Danoff linked.

Even without the keypad is the CM Rapid worth it?

I haven't got it yet, but the company that manufactures the CM Rapid (costar) is the same as the one that makes the Filco Majestouch, which is considered a high quality product (according to geekhack). I hardly ever use the number pad on my keyboards to begin with, so I won't miss it. It's actually a bit of a plus for me to not have it, I don't like having a numpad there when I'm gaming, it just gets in the way. Also features N-Key rollover.

Since the last keyboard thread linked above, I ordered a DAS Pro for my wife and she loves it. I liked it so well, I ordered one for myself. I love the feel and the clicky is great. I can see if I were in a room of people that were trying to study it would be annoying as it is quite loud, but I like it for typing. When I game, I have headphones on. The only drawback I have had is when I'm online with a bunch of friends. They say I'm chopping my coke up again. In any case, I would absolutely replace it with another one if something should happen to mine. Cherry MX Blues FTW.
