Getting air for no reason

This game has been out for almost 3 years, I know, but it wasn't until recently that I noticed that sometimes when you hit a rumble strip or curb, your car goes airborne for about a second. Sometimes the back end goes up, and sometimes the front end does. This is very odd, considering this wouldn't happen in real life. This has only happened to me twice, so I'm guessing it doesn't happen often. Has anyone else noticed it?

yeah, i've noticed that, it makes races like the elise cup so much more harder. But, if you keep a good line, you'll never notice it.

I think it depends on your car settings. If your shocks are too tight or your car is too low to the ground you will definitely get airborne. Either the bottom of the car will hit the rumble strip or the shocks won't be doing their job. Try loosening it all up.

If your rear is popping up lower you rebound settings in the rear and if your front end is going up do the same. You might also have an improper spring rate to bound and rebound ratio you might want to adjust your spring rate too

Just wondering.. Have you driven a low, rock hard racecar in real life ?... Ever watched STCC or ETCC (Heck, even the Danish DTC) - The cars look like your average Volvo / Alfa / Whatever but are more than happy to catch a little air if the driver hits the rumble strips a little too fast...

Good point, Flerbizky. The Rumble Strip is basically a little ramp along the side of the road to get your attention.

That's just what I was going to say. Don't forget you're probably travelling faster than you think. It's very very common in real racing; that's part of the reason why rifding the rumbles is such an art - a little can speed you up but a lot can slow you down. In fact, a friend of mine rolled his Neon at Road America after a little too aggressive use of the curbs in a Showroom Stock race.

Rolled a Neon? I didn't know that was possible ... was he alright?

Yeah, that's why Showroom Stock rules call for a roll cage and minimum 4-point harness. He was nailing the inside curbing to help yank him around one of the turns, and getting air on the inside wheels. After a few laps he pressed his luck a little too hard and *wups* up and over it went. Can't seem to find any pictures, though.

I guess it can happen in real life, then. Thanks for pointing these things out, Flerbizky and neon_duke! I just thought it seemed a little exaggerated in GT3. I have never seen it happen in real life, so I didn't know why some cars do that when they hit a rumble strip in the game.
