I've never been bored by this game. I wanted to share some of the ways I use to keep things interesting. Please add your own. Thanks!
1. Kart racing at night on a course maker Toscana course. Using the course maker, make a short, thin-laned course and set the time accordingly. Choose one of the newer karts with headlights. Being able to kart into the night with fireworks surrounding you is one of GT5's most pleasant surprises.
2. One Make Racing. Why this option is hidden in the Practice menu, I don't know -- it's one of the best parts of the game. Because of the distinct characteristics from car to car, the one-make option allows every car to become a game in itself. Stage your own Corvette challenge, etc. Also you can better appreciate "lesser" cars because the performance is identical. You can be very creative here (i.e. spend an entire week doing one-make races with only the concept cars in GT5 such as the Mazda Furai).
3. Hold your own Super Car Olympics. Using the Speed Course and Time Trial Options, make your own Exotic Car Championship or Rivals Competition such as Ferrari vs. McLaren vs. Corvette, etc. The beauty of using both the Speed Course and a Time Trial on a given track is that the fastest car in a straight line is not necessarily the fastest car on a given course.
4. Turn a "boring" car into a snow or rally racer. I never thought I'd enjoy driving a Toyota Vitz so much.
5. Study Race Track Design. Race courses have a flow and rhythm to them (i.e. a balance of tight and broad turns, short vs. long straights). Even with the Course Maker's limitations, there's a lot you can do here.
6. Acquire Real World Photography Skills. Learn about aperture, shutter speeds, and composition. GT5's camera is more powerful than many professional cameras.
7. Drive Nurburgring. At Night. In the Rain. If there's another game that offers an experience that awesome, please feel free to let me know.
Enjoy!
