Giving money to "bums"

do you/should you give money to bums?

If a "bum" asks you for some change or spare cash, just tell them "sorry, all I have is plastic" (plastic = credit/debit card).

Yes, it's usually a lie, but it's a lie that's easier to get away with than "I don't have anything," and it's certainly easier than saying "no, I don't want to give you anything." :lol:

Oh, and before anyone says "why would you tell them that you have a credit card? That's not something you want them to know".....if you're worried about that, you're walking through the wrong neighborhood. :indiff:

Personally, I find them annoying. This largely depends on the city you live in, but where I live and work, they try to bum you for money in front of businesses. I often see them on the side of the off-ramp of the freeway, but that bugs me very little. But when I'm about to go into a restaurant or 7-11 or something, don't bother me. One time, I did get upset and reported a bum to the Wendy's manager, when the idiot was beggin for change next to their drive-thru. I'm not a fan of those who chase you in the store parking lot either.

yea plus if the bum thinks you look like you would have some money to give, then he knows you have something. Most people dont walk around without some means of payment.
 
I used to just flat out lied to them, and did feel guilty about it, but that's all changed now thanks to this thread. I mean, they tell B.S. lie to you 99% of the time(except for those holding signs like"why lie, I just want beer", which still might be a lie) to trick you, I shouldn't have to feel bad about lying back to them.

P.S. That reminded me of another type of beggers, which hangs around in rest areas off the highway. I was taking a nap in my car at one of those rest areas one time. When I was about to close my eyes, this guy was pacing by the drivers side of my car. He keeps looking at me, so I rolled down the window and he asked for money. :rolleyes: I can't remember if I gave him anything or not, but that was very annoying. I remember I skipped my nap(I was tired on a long drive) and just started driving agan. :grumpy:

I heard a comedian (Chris Rock maybe?) one time say that if a bum has a clever or funny saying on a sign he isn't that desparate.
