Everyone loves em!

Folks need information, and information is there for them. Organizing it is not easy or fast on many occasions, and sifting the wheat from the chaff can take much effort. I'm asked regularly about various components such as potentiometers, encoders, sensors, etc. and where to find them. Here's a reference post for posterity everyone can access when they need certain components.

Be advised that these components or types of components are certified to function properly with my circuit boards. These are my recommendations, and these components are used in DSD components. There may be other options out there. If you want those, you have to source them on your own. Other or alternate components or sources may exist.

Soft Touch Knobs
http://www.rapidonline.com/Mechanical-Fastenings-Fixings/Re-an-16mm-Soft-Touch-Knobs-64710
(must be drilled to fit some shafts)

I'm considering a "bits and bobs" shop in the future so all of these components may be purchased at a central location and be supplied ready to use, but I'm undecided and have no additional time resources to allocate to it now.

Enjoy!

Thanks Derek. This should be stickied 👍

Edit:
Does anyone know a good source for knobs to put on these gizmos? :)

Those are the Re-An soft touch - that's the type everyone loves. They are 6mm types and need to be redrilled to accommodate a 1/4" shaft...I know, we've redilled bags of them.

You need to hit each knob with a 15/64" bit first and then hit them again with a 1/4" bit. You MUST use a two pass process otherwise the bigger bit will dig too deeply and you won't be able to hold the knob. Yes, you have to do it by hand and yes, it's easy to come out the other side.

DISCLAIMER: Each man is on his own to know shop and tool safety. I have simply stated my method - you are responsible for your work and your own well being :)

Thanks 👍

I will try to stay away from drilling my own flesh. lol

guitar knobs work well too, I have some nice knurled metal ones on my DIY box (uses Dereks 32 button control board which I highly recommended):
