I don't agree with this statement, I think it is fun, especially when my brother is driving. He has a white '91 Eclipse GSX and he drives it like a mother ****er. He goes 60 in a 35, 50 in a 30, and other references. I don't think he gives a w00t about the police. I have only gotten in it with my brother, and it sped so quickly, I want to get in it again.:p

True enough i guess, I know i wouldn't want to drive some gas guzzling death trap but whatever. Hopefully this SUV fad will pass over soon. As for 11646, .

Gas guzzling death trap? I can see you not wanting to shell out at the pump. Why do you claim that it's a death trap?

Is an RV not a death trap then? What about a van?

Just admit it. Just come out and say it. You think everyone should buy a sports car, or if it's not a sports car, it should be the cheapest thing in existance.

I really don't understand this bias against SUV owners.

Looks and power and luxury. What is that so hard to understand?

Mercedes E55 AMG, Audi RS6, BMW 540i Sport, Volvo V70R, etc, etc, etc. Not quite the same price range as say, a Dodge Durango, but that's not powerful, good looking or luxurious either.

If all SUVs were about the size of a Ford Explorer, and had a little less ground clearance, people wouldn't complain as much, because they'd be big station wagons. With the smaller families of the 80s-90s-00s, there's not really much need for a 7/8/9 seater, since most couples tend to have one or two kids maximum.

Something like a Subaru Legacy Outback, or an Audi A6 Allroad would be perfect for 99.9% of the people buying SUVs currently, but they're thrown away by the fact they are not big, overweight trucks. Yet, they're just as safe, if not safer, more fuel efficient, and just as utilitarian. Go figure...

Well lets see...They flip more easily, are less manuverable, and aren't built to the same safety standards as smaller cars.

Minivans are quite safe actually. An RV doesn't have a smaller, safer alternative form like SUVs do.

No not really.

I was driving downtown one day, over some rough spots and a set of tracks. A dude in a moderately riced car was in front of me. He slowed down for everything and even took the tracks at an angle.

As he approached the tracks I yelled through my sunroof, "YOUR CAR IS ****ING HIGHER THAN MINE!!! GOOOOO!!!!!"

I have a completely unmodified `93 Accord. It's a good five to six inches off the ground. This dudes car was higher than mine. Who are these idiots!

Flip more easily and less manuverable than what exactly?

I can think of some huge cars from the 60's and 70's that are faaaar less manuverable. Vans are also much less manuverable. Beyond that it has to come to a point to point comparison because the manuverability overlaps. For example, I could name some small cars that have less manuverability than... the infinity fx for example.

SUVs are also harder to flip than jeeps and vans.

As for safety standards... pickup trucks, vans (and maybe jeeps) have their own safety standards too, why aren't you b*tching about them?

edit: or ar eyou saying that SUVs flip more easily than smaller ars, are less manuverable than small cars, and are less safe than small cars. If that's the case, I would suggest that there are plenty of things that SUVs can do that smaller cars cannot. For example, I packed all my stuff (including furniture) and moved in an SUV (during college). Plus my stuff was housed inside the vehicle so that it could be locked up over night and out of the rain. The same could only be said of a van.... which would get worse gas mileage and not handle as well.

Nearly every day I drive through a parking lot with speed bumps. Some people are amazing. They practically come to a complete halt going over the bump. And that whole diagonal thing . . . pa-leeze

But I drive a Jeep so I go flying over them at 100 mph.

Of course you must know that all safety standards are merely a function of the driver's ability to drive well. You probably also know that it is practically impossible to flip a Hummer, right?

Really? Which mini-vans are safer than which SUV's?

I'll edit a quote from the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean.

"Speed Limits are more like guidelines than rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl. (My truck, :D )"

new sig material :D

I drive both a car and an SUV so I have nothign against either, my main problem is with semi trucks, why can they pour out pollution like there is no tomorrow but I cant drive a sklyine in the US without it being modified, if it applies to cars make it apply to trucks too...

I don't understand why anyone but an offroad-enthusiast would wan't to buy one. Have you ever seen a Navigator climbing a mountain in real life? I really just can't stand incompitant drivers. In my town there are a bunch of ****s who don't ever use a turn signal. That really fries my duck.

Because most people like the big size, power, and good looks. Unfortunately, some people buy them pretty much intending to use them like sedans.

Oh, and it's much better to be in an SUV when some dumb **** in a pig '97 Civic rams into your side. Y'know.

I'm speaking now, so listen up.

For several years now, General Motors has been making it intentionally difficult for women to purchase the full-size Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban as well as the GMC Yukon and Isuzu Ascender. GM knows the prime targets for these vehicles are women, so they sell them in extremely difficult-to-understand trim levels hoping a woman isn't adept enough to do all the negotiating.

For instance, the Yukon comes in either 2WD, 4WD, Denali, XL 1500 2WD, XL 1500 4WD, Denali XL, XL 2500 4WD, and XL 2500 2WD trims. All except Denali are extremely stripped-down. From that, they have several equipment packages which are trim levels on any normal vehicle. So after choosing the model you want and negotiating its price, you then have to choose the package and negotiate its price. And the packages are even more difficult - "SLT package 1SD," for instance, invoices at $5233 on the Yukon, $4657 on the Yukon XL, and $4502 on the Yukon 4WD with Z71 suspension (which is a $640 option on its own yet is only sold with an equipment package such as 1SD or 1SC which is simply an offshoot of 1SD). Other packages like the "Safe and Secure Package" (whose price you also have to negotiate, of course) are even more trim specific - $1475 for the 2WD Yukon and XL, $1670 for the 4WD Yukon and XL, $655 for the 2WD Yukon and XL with SLT Package 1SD, and $850 for the 4WD Yukon and XL with SLT Package 1SD. Still more options and packages exist from there with still more qualifications. On the Tahoe it's even worse when required engine sizes are thrown into the mix. And all this is under the assumption that women are unable to hold their own in negotiating deals.

What makes you think that is targeted at women?

If we can assume that women are roughly as smart as men (which I think is a safe assumption)... why wouldn't that be seen as a negotiating tactic for everyone. Make it complicated so that they can't follow you and end up paying too much. Make sense to me whether you're male or female.

I tell you what really gets on my nerves in Britain (whether you get it in America or not I don't know), but is the school run at about 8.15am to 9.00am and 3.00pm to 4.00pm. When you get the mothers you cruise down to school in their uge SUVS which wouldn't actually be able to take on a muddy field  and just block the roads by the school and get arsy when they can't get any where. It just really anoys me when you see people like that who have these fancy big 4x4's wich they really don't need and will never ever really encounter a difficult situation. I mean (apparantly, so I'm told) these things are quite obviously going to do more damage to a pedestrian than a car will :odd: . If anything the people who really actually need 4x4s in the UK (like farmers etc.) actually use old landrovers and the sorts. Anywayz just my 2 cents.

I'll stick with my SUV, and I ain't no soccer mom!

Soccer Moms shouldn't own SUV's it gives guys like me a bad name. I rather like trying to have a performance SUV and I think it would be real funny to see a soccer mom in a Typhoon or a slammed Escalade. Either way socccer moms shouldn't own SUV's

Soccer moms should not drive.

Did you ever participate in a sport at the pre-college level? If so, your mom was officially a "soccer mom" and therefore by your argument should not drive.

This attitude is blatantly sexist and reeks of bigotry. I could make a similar argument.

Guys under the age of 25 (which includes me) shouldn't drive. They're wreckless and crazy on the road.

It makes about as much sense. Think before you open your mouth.

I'm not lying to you here, this is entirely true.

I wasn't accusing you of lying. I was trying to understand the situation.
