Does anyone know of any good cheap office chairs?

I was given a poorly made garbage chair from my dad for christmas and the back support fell off so now it feels like I'm sitting on a stool. I can feel my spine curving. I'm looking at around $60-$80. Recommendations would be great..

Buy a used Herman Miller Aeron on craigslist for about $400 and put a lifeform seat cushion on it for another $100. It's an amazing chair (I'm sitting on it now).

I know that blows your budget, but in your budget I hate all chairs.

Once you go Aeron you never go back. $400 would be a steal for one of those.

I'd rather be sitting in a stone carved chair instead of sitting in that. $400 blows my budget alright.

Ikea tend to make some good ones, if you have one near you.

Theres an Ikea in Illinois somewhere. I could make a drive but I don't think it'll be worth it. I might check out the online store and get it shipped.

Craigslist. Just make sure you check one out in stores first so that you can get the size right. If you have an Aeron, check out the lifeform seat cushion. Lifeform is the company, it's not a Herman Miller Product. Lifeform makes higher end chairs than Herman Miller. It turns the Aeron from a $400 chair into a $2000 chair in terms of comfort.

It's actually $500 because you need the seat cushion.

I will say this, my previous home office chair was a $90 costco chair. When I started working from home every day, 8 hours a day, that chair shredded to pieces in less than 2 months. If the chair is going to see a lot of use, or you want it to last, less than $100 isn't going to work out.

What did you do to the poor chair? That cheap $40 chair my dad bought lasted about a year or two. I just want something that doesn't really have many plastic parts because the one I had before had plastic armrests connected to the back of the chair and the screws started to tear into the plastic causing the armrest and the back to fall off. It was kind of funny actually.

Dude, thanks! Lifeform looks like the company that makes the office chairs for Relax The Back. Those seat cushions are phenominal! I wanted to get the deep seat one but they quoted me like $1500 for a fabric chair. Was built like a tank though.

I didn't know lifeform made a chair that cheap.

I'll probably buy one if I have to go away to med school. For right now, I couldn't justify replacing my boss's old chair, even though the seat cushion is totally worn out.

That's another tip. If you see anyone moving an office, go in and ask if you can help out or if you can take anything off their hands. I got two great bookshelves and 3 or 4 nice >$500 chairs from that. They hold folded laundry and other bags of crap when they're not being used.

Hey, I found a lifeform midback ultimate executive chair on craigslist for $500. Should I go buy it? It looks pretty new and it's being sold by a chiropractor.

So no one is going to give him a decent answer?

@TB,

It's like asking for a good Tennis shoe under $40. Yes, you can buy a tennis shoe for less than $40. You're going to hate it and it will disintegrate.

Been watching tape-delayed bar mitzvah ceremonies simulcast to Vanuatu, again?

We've had the same fully-adjustable office desk chair since 1999; it was rated for 8 hours of use, but I've found it's good for about 10 or so, without any neck, arm, wrist, or back discomfort. It creaks like an old house, but it's never failed. Sure, burgundy isn't quite my style, but free was hard to turn down when a local bank branch closed down...

When I get home, I'll look up the brand.

I've found some decent sneakers for running, playing, walking, and general goofing-off for $30-40. Usually, less money really takes a toll on my feet. Work shoes are another matter, though.
