I've always had comprehensive from day 1. I think it was originally like $1200/year when I was 17, it's now around $1000 with all the modifications I've done.

Good work on affording the insurance with a supermarket salary. Though 1-1.2k for insurance for an 18 year old is a lot. You did better than me as I needed my old online business on top of the supermarket salary to afford running/modding my car.

Insurance is pretty rediculous though. You can find yourself paying 1k per annum on insurance for a 5k car, 35k car and 60k car. It isn't worth it though on a 5k car. Insurance alone would be 20% of what the car cost in the first place.

So why are you buying a first car at age 14? And why does it have to drift?

My car was almost $8k when I bought it, so it was a little more worth it. And it wasn't that hard to save up, I was putting $50/week away which was more than enough to cover both rego and insurance.

God when I was 18 I was paying 1800 on my '88 integra! No collision just the basics. That was only a few years ago... Insurance is cheap over there.

Only 50 a week? Im finding myself putting 100-150 in a week with another 50 to spend each week. And that's also on a supermarket budget . I'm getting it pretty good at woolies at the moment, I should have 8 grand by July next year.
