I want to degragment my HDD but the disk defragmentation on vista is rubbish. The windows vista version doesnt show as much info as in XP and seems to take forever.
I searched on google and found a few programs that look good but Id rather get a recommendation here from someone who has actually used an alternative program on vista.

It funny, back in the day I used to hate watching that stupid, blue MS-DOS De-frag screen go on for often days at time, then I did a Vista De-Frag manually and kinda missed it.

I haven't personally used any other because I scheduled my system to de-frag every week at 3am when I'm asleep. However, I've heard a few things about Diskeeper, by one of the network guys at work. That said I've never had any problem with the Vista one either.

I dont know why they messed with Disk Defragmenter from XP to Vista. I just cannot understand Disk Keeper. In the old days it was just analyse then defragment. :ouch:

I believe auto defrag is on by default in Vista. I fired up the defrag utility in Vista only once for it to tell me it has been defragging automatically every week or so.

If am not mistaken, the Vista defragger has nothing to do with Diskeeper? The XP defrag was a stripped down version of DK. I am currently using the full version, Diskeeper09. Definitely recommend it 👍 runs very well on automatic mode and defrags leaving no fragged files behind.
I switched to third party since the built in defragger is slow and like most pple wanted something with a proper graphic display.
