I'm looking at the Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema 800 satellites, and a Super Cube III, think its and 8" sub. The price will be under $2,000 from crutchfield.com.

I researched them quite a bit. Found great reviews from buyers and critics. They have a neat "passive radiator" feature on the satellites and sub. Its a woofer, but its produces no sound and has no real power, but is pressure coupled to the actual speaker, and allows deeper, more clear midrange with better frequency response in the satellites. The Satellites have one apiece except for the center channel, while the Sub has two, and hits down to 18 Htz, way low.

So does anyone have any of these? Let me know what you think, maybe for something else in the sub $2,000 range.

I got you PM on these and my apologies for not replying sooner (I'm easily distracted what can I say), and while they don't market them in the UK so I have no direct experience of them. They do, from what I have seen and read, appear to be well respected and should do a good job.

The only thing I would normally advise is that is you can demo them before you buy (or get them on an approval basis) its always a good idea with any Hi-Fi or AV gear. Speakers that sound amazing with one amp can be a real let down with another, and if you are able to test before you buy or return if them don't suit your needs, its always an advantage.

Thanks Scaff, no worries. I have demoed them at a local audio store. Its is a small private owned business, the manager is moving to a different brand, Paradym, instead if Def Techs. He was pushy about me buying the Paradyms, but I like the Def Techs look and sound. Thanks for the info.

I also have a Harmon Kardon AVR 235, running a true 65 watts by 5. I know it seems down on power, but the 65 watts is rms, and not sure what the peak is.

Well I have ordered new speakers. I went with the pro monitor 1000 satellites and pro monitor 2000 center. They are all 5.25"s with a single 1" aluminum dome tweeter. The satellites have a single passive radiator on top, and the center has one on each side, the frequency response is 42htz to 30'000khtz. They can take up to 200 watts and are well reviewed.

Now the best part, the sub.....supercube 6000. 1500 watts, 9" long throw double surround sub, with two passive 10" radiators on either side. The best part is it take up just over 1 cubic foot of space. The panels of the box are almost 2" thick. The frequency response is crazy low 14 htz to 200hrtz. They will be here in time for this weekend, by the way they are Definitive technologies just a step up from the 800s i was looking at. All for around $2400.

Well everything is broken in now. I also purchased a new Denon 1912 AVR, has around 90watts per channel with 7.1, all hdmi, love it so far. The speakers and sub are pure bliss, they have such a clear crisp sound, and its very full sounding as well. The sub is nuts, it seriously feels like a buttkicker is hooked up to the couch, its crazy loud and cleaner sounding than any ported sub. I'm very happy and recommend this system to anyone wanting to spend under $3,000.
