Many people complain that they can't find a good open lobby on this site. Yet every time I attempt to start an interesting or different type of lobby such as kei cars, stock low pp, silvia rm spec etc. No one shows up. I always have to cave and start a shuffle room to attract the masses.

To give this thread some purpose; if you advertise your events about 2 weeks in advance in the proper sub forums here on the Planet, host them at a time where many people are online (weekends) and invite your friends if they are online and could be interested, you should be able to fill the room with a decent amount of people.

If you did all or most of that, then I don't have much advise either.

I am talking more of a day to day scenario not whether people would show up to an event. More diverse rooms are needed generally in the open lobbies to combat boredom with gt5. And if you see one, get in early and support it. Vote with your attendance on which rooms you like. Most people settle for mediocrity.

A lobby with 1 person in it, isn't a good lobby.

I'm not going to lie, I don't care how enticing a rooms title looks - if it only has one person in it I generally skip it and find another more populated room.

1 on 1 driving is dull and often it will just be you and this single person for easily an hour.

Because of this, I frequent lounges or rooms that I'm invited to by friends instead 👍

Agreed, I don't usually go in a room with less than 4 people.

To help the balance, I do host a regular open-to-all room on Wednesdays and Saturdays 2000-2200 GMT with at least 5 other people.

I haven't opened it up in a while, but I used to open this good cop lobby called "CopsAndRobbers: 65mph". The cops were responsible and speeders were automatically pursued. You've probably heard of it, it was popular. It filled up within a minute, and people loved it. Me and my friend "franck-i" were always chasing this drug dealer named... oh what was his name? It's really been a while...

Good times...

Tell PD. It's impossible to find the SM 500 PP touring car 20 lap race in the sea of RS 3 lap races. We need search options. Best advice I can give is be patient, eventually someone shows up, but it can take a while.

My experience is

1 person room - 1 entrant per 10,000 years
2 person room - 1 entrant per 15-30 minutes

Joining bumps the room count and makes the room more enticing. If you can hit 5+ the room might takeoff and you could get a new person for each race.

Why not join the 1 person room and then you invite them? Only if it interests you of course.

Note - not directed at you in particular Husky, I just feel that many hold a similar view on online rooms.

The things is, most people don't race interesting things online, you have to join leagues on here. Usually when you drive something interesting you are slated online by other players. There are people, who would like to race this way but they are hard to find. Usually once you get a few players join then people will follow.

I ran a championship for low powered cars, check my sig, once we had a good few members in the lobby from the league people would start to randomly join. I think pople just do not like to join empty lobby's. Maybe you should post here to find like minded people: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=256

I've thought about this myself. There are only a few types of lobbies that actually gain traction. Even fewer gain traction with the enlighted upper classes of GTP: 450 PP road cars, 500 PP road cars, 550 PP road cars (if you use race cars, racing tires, or anything faster than 550PP, you're a noob), or prearranged league races of various types (often involving some kind of arbitrary stipulation or restriction, such as having a minimum lap time below which your lap will not count). Even out there on the open lobby scene, there's not much more: 15 million Nurburgring North rooms (sorry, I can't spell Nordschwhateverit'sspelledlike), cruddy TGTT free run rooms, shuffle rooms clean to dirty (that rarely remain good for long), NASCAR (usually dirty), cop rooms that fall apart quickly (if they were ever any good in the first place), cruddy drag/Wangan Midnight rooms, and more 450/500/550 road cars. And if the track selection is left up to the democratic process, you're pretty much doomed to see London and Cape Ring Full/Outside/North at least once before you get a track that's actually good for online racing.

As for those 450/500/550 road cars, those are annoying in other ways too. Because of the way the PP system works, torque and powerband are the enemies, which leads to obnoxiously precise power limiter/ballast abuse as well such unrealistic tuning techniques as leaving a used car's oil dirty and engine worn, or not fully breaking in a new car. Or perhaps just using vaguely unrealistic combinations of parts. All in an attempt to maximize the horsepower and minimize the torque/powerband width of your NSX/M3 E46/GTR/LFA.

Come on people...

We missed you last night dude, you'd have enjoyed the random silliness of it all. 👍

Yeah I've been slacking a lot lately. I didn't know who you wereuntill you posted about the open lobies. I thought. That has to be ---- ------ --.

It's true, no one shows up when you make a good lobby but then they complain when they get into a bad lobby.... 👎

Balance for sure, if you can drive on 2 wheels.
You never know when a Midget comes along to crush you hahhaha

Monster Midget out of nowhere...

Can't say I've ever had a problem with attracting people to a room. I regularly run 400PP/CS, 450PP/SH, 500-550PP/SS Street Car rooms, along with my brethren at Clueless Tunes, and the room will almost always fill up. Albeit, it's a bit like fishing, you have to wait for a little while, but they will arrive. I tend to find that if you limit the tyre choice as above, turn everything other than ABS off and set real grip with tyre wear, you can filter the idiots out.

Almost without exception, these types of lobbies end up being nice and clean with some engaging racing...
