I believe this is the first time I devoted a thread to the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival. These two events are a celebration of machines past and present. Think of the Goodwood Festival of Speed more like a real-life Gran Turismo All-Stars, only this is a hillclimb challenge. The Goodwood Revival is a great event featuring classic racing machines ranging from sportscar machines to touring cars of the past.

This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed happens July 3rd through July 5th. This year's Goodwood Revival takes place September 18 through September 20th. In case you need a little "Why Should You Care?" on this, check this out (which also features some of my other videos):

This is a "Why Should You Care?" doubleheader! The first part involves the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the second part involves the Goodwood Revival. For starters, both are amazing vintage racing events. The Goodwood Festival of Speed involves all kinds of racing machines ranging from vintage racers to some of today's modern race cars. The Goodwood Revival is just about exclusively racing vintage sportscars, touring cars, and more.

Thanks for reading! Keep in mind that this thread is not only a general thread on both of these events, but on a place to discuss this year's events.

going to both again this year, i think
festival for the cars, the wacky racers and photo-ops!
revival for the atmosphere, dressing up smart-like and a handy paddock pass!

I'm off to the Festival for the first time this year... looking forward to seeing some super sweet cars and taking loads of photos.

I'm really jealous of the people who are going to these event's, I'm unable to go this year :(

please post up some of your pictures to help ease the pain:tup:

Le Mans and Goodwood are still two events I've yet to go to. I love the sheer amount of amazing race cars there are, there's a fair few nice road cars aswell.

I'd love to go to the Revival aswell.

Goodwood is quality, however, it's not cheap, it's a long way and the traffic is a nightmare.... on the same weekend the Renault World Series is a Silverstone, which is 20 minutes from me and free... I'm skint - so guess which I'll be going to!

Five-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb will be making his Goodwood debut at this year’s Festival of Speed (3-5 July), driving his trusty Citroen C4 WRC up the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill, as well as around the event’s challenging purpose-built Forest Rally Stage.

Loeb’s first appearance at Goodwood will give his large British fan base a rare chance to see him in action at very close quarters on tarmac, sliding through the gravel and in person. His dominant Citroen C4 WRC will also be on display in the dedicated WRC paddock, located near the main Formula One paddock area at the Festival. Loeb will be joined on Goodwood Forest Rally Stage by a host of other rallying legends past and present, including Walter Rohl, Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola, Bjorn Waldegaard and Rauno Aaltonen. A rare ex-works Group B Citroen BX 4TC rally car will also be in action on the Stage.

Other Citroens making their Goodwood debut will include the amazing GT by Citroen concept car, which will be seen in action publically for the very first time anywhere in the world driving up the hillclimb as part of the popular Sunday Times Supercar Run.

Elsewhere at the Festival the forward-focused Citroen C-Cactus will be displayed in the FoS-TECH future technology pavilion, whilst a beautiful and scare Slough-built Citroen 11 Light Fifteen ‘Traction Avant’ Roadster will form part of a class of pioneering 1930s cars in the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe.’ The revolutionary Traction Avant celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, and the rare example at Goodwood will share a class on the Cartier lawn with other innovative cars of the 1930s such as the stunning Hispano-Suiza H6C Xenia and Cord 812 Beverly.

I'm heading down to the Festival of Speed this year for the first time in a few years (Le Mans the last 2). There's 13 of us going down in a selection of fast and/or practical cars and camping on the Goodwood camp site which makes it handy and means if anyone wants a beer it's no problem having to nominate a driver.

Hope the weather is better this year than the last couple of times I've been when it lashed it down.

I'll get loads of pictures and post the best ones in my thread once I'm back.

Going to the Festival on the Sunday, after having been all three days in previous years. I have to work this year. Revival I don't know about yet... I really want to go, but I have to see how well funded I am.

Wow! Lot of takers here on GTP. I gave my reasons, so let me ask you all... what would be YOUR "Why Should You Care?" on these events at Goodwood?

I was at the Festival in 2007, working with a race team. It was amazing, seeing loads of cars that I'd really only ever seen on Gran Turismo and the tv. And it was even better to see them running and moving at speed.

I'd like to go again this year but I can't get the time off work at that time, and I couldn't get anyone persuaded to go with me anyway. Might try for the Silverstone classic though. Group Cs and old sports, touring and F1 cars (I think).

Now, there are not only cars, but even some motorcycles. Even seeing some of the classic motorcycles is beautiful. You're mostly talking about grand prix motorbikes doing the hillclimb and stuff like that.

I will be doing the following on the 3rd July:

*Supercar Paddock
*Cartier 'Style et Luxe'
*Photographing the Supercar's as they go up the hill.

4th July:

*Race Car Paddock
*Taking shots at the Rally Stage.
*Photographing the Race cars, Motorbikes and Supercars as they go up the hill.

Any bets going on as to what type of vehicle will set the fastest time overall on the hillclimb? I'm thinking it could be a rally car.

And if there is a vintage racing festival that I've seen that can be called the best in the world, then the Goodwood Revival takes the top spot on the podium taking those who are viewing it for the first time back a few decades to the track in it's heyday.;) Makes me wonder what it would be like for today's MotoGP riders to be racing the racing motorbikes of the period and wearing the same period gear.

Red Bull Dominates the British Grand Prix

It’s been an extremely exciting weekend for Formula 1 again, with what was possibly the last ever British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Red Bull had good reason for celebrating though with Sebastian Vettel and team mate Mark Webber securing 1st and 2nd place respectively. You’ll be able to see Webber race again in less than two weeks time at the Festival of Speed, where he’ll compete against fellow F1 drivers, including the championship leader leader Jenson Button, as well as Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock. In all, six of the current-season F1 teams are scheduled to attend the Festival, including McLaren, Ferrari, Williams, Toyota and Red Bull, plus the new Brawn GP team.

Bikes Galore!

In recognition of the new-found strength of the World Superbike and World Supersport Championships, this year’s Festival of Speed will feature four current works World Superbike teams and a selection of top riders from both categories.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport, Kawasaki World Superbike R.T, Aprilia Racing, and Ten Kate Honda are all set to attend. Double World Champion Troy Corser will ride his BMW S1000R, Moto GP and WSB race winner Makoto Tamada will ride his Kawasaki ZX 10R, four-time 250cc World Champion Max Biaggi will ride his Aprilia RSV4, and Grand Prix and WSB race winner Carlos Checa will ride his Honda CBR1000RR. Stiggy Honda rider Leon Haslam will also be in attendance, riding an ex-Mick Grant Honda RS1000. Representing the World Supersport Championship will be former Grand Prix and now WSS front runner Garry McCoy and current championship leader Cal Crutchlow, both set to ride classic Grand Prix machinery.

In addition, Goodwood will also focus on 60 years of Motorcycle Grand Prix with a selection of magnificent machines from each era of the championship.

The calibre of riders is equally special. The three British stars of the future – Bradley Smith, Scott Redding, and Danny Webb - will line up with past masters such as Mick Doohan, Phil Read, and John Surtees.

Endurance racing machines will also feature heavily, in celebration of the main 2009 Festival of Speed theme ‘True Grit – Epic Feats of Endurance’.

Cult American TV Star Goes on the Rampage

American TV legend Jesse G. James will wow Goodwood fans in his Baja desert racing ‘Trophy Truck’ at the Festival of Speed (3-5 July).

In less than two weeks time larger-than-life television personality Jesse Gregory James will storm the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed behind the wheel of his wild Baja-style ‘Trophy Truck.’

The Jesse James truck will be familiar to millions of You Tube viewers around the world as the presenter of cult TV shows such as Monster Garage and Motorcycle Mania rampages across deserts and through houses. For the season finale of his latest US hit TV show Jesse James Is A Dead Man, the presenter recently set a new world land speed record for a hydrogen powered vehicle as he hit 199.7 mph at the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed in California.

Although his driving is expected to be marginally more sedate at Goodwood, James still promises to enthral the Festival of Speed goers with his exciting and unexpected antics behind the wheel of his sophisticated space-frame chassis truck. It will be a spectacle that few will have witnessed up close outside of the USA, and one that should stay in the memories of Festival visitors for many years to come.

In addition to hosting his fuel-filled television programmes, California-based Jesse James is the CEO of the cult custom motorcycle shop West Coast Choppers, as well as owner of the Cisco Burger restaurant, publisher of Garage magazine and head of the Chopperdogs fan club. He is also related to the famous 19th Century outlaw Jesse James.

Take a look at this taster of what you might expect to see Jesse and his truck get up to at the Festival.

Look to the Skies

As well as all the action on the ground at the Festival of Speed, there will be plenty of entertainment overhead as well.

On the Friday and Saturday, the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Display Team will thrill us with their spectacular display, and the world-famous RAF Red Arrows will also entertain us on Friday and on Sunday too. Visitors to the show on Saturday will witness a breath-taking fly-by by the Eurofighter Typhoon. There will also be a replica of a 1909 Blériot. Designed by Louis Blériot, a French aviator, inventor and engineer, he completed the first cross-channel flight, receiving a prize of 1000 British pounds for doing so. Blériot is also credited as the first person to make a working monoplane, and was a pioneer of the sport of air racing.

‘Colin McRae Vision’ set for Festival of Speed

Colin McRae was a huge fan of the Festival of Speed, it was one of his favourite events in the motorsport calendar and his charity, ‘Colin McRae Vision’, is particularly pleased to be able to attend the event this year.

The new ‘Colin McRae Vision’ exhibition and merchandise unit will be on display at this year’s Festival of Speed, and will include a static display featuring one of the iconic cars from Colin’s phenomenal rallying career and a selection of official merchandise, which will be available for purchase, including books, clothing, shoes, career dvd’s and of course copies of the ultra successful game – ‘Colin McRae – DIRT’. You may even have the chance to try out your skills on one of the DIRT stages on a state of the art gaming station.

Colin chose the Festival of Speed for both the first public appearance of his own design concept competition car - the ‘Colin McRae R4’ - in 2006 and subsequently its competition debut on the Goodwood Rally Stage in 2007, just months before the tragic accident which claimed his life along with that of his young son Johnny and two family friends.

The charity’s attendance at the Festival will hopefully allow members of the public to see and understand more about the organisation that has been set up in Colin’s memory. The Charity is keen to engage with the public in order to explain the McRae family’s reasoning behind setting up the ‘Vision’ and to make people aware of forthcoming fundraising events and also to indicate how the funds raised are scheduled to be distributed and utilised. For further information about the charity, visit the website.

Any bets going on as to what type of vehicle will set the fastest time overall on the hillclimb? I'm thinking it could be a rally car.

i dont think rally cars compete up the hill, well apart from the odd pikes peak entries, usually the fastest is an endurance racer some jaguar XJR driven by justin law no doubt, or an old winged racer

Two more cars have been confrimed for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2009:

XFR Prototype
XKR ‘Goodwood Special’

Seems like this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed will be a great one. Maybe one of the best ever. I envy you folks in the U.K.! :)

Nascar is there.
RCR #3 Chevy to Participate in Goodwood Festival: The Richard Childress Racing #3 GM Goodwrench Chevy that seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt earned his 76th and final victory in will participate in this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on July 3-5, 2009. Taylor Earnhardt, 20, Earnhardt’s youngest child, will drive the car in demonstration runs during the three-day festival. It is her inaugural turn behind the wheel of a stock car. She will be accompanied by her mother, Teresa Earnhardt, president and CEO of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., founded in 1980 with her legendary husband. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an annual event held since 1993 at the Goodwood House in West Sussex, a place of great British motorsports history. Race cars old and new will participate in both demonstration and competition runs up the nine-turn 1.16-mile hillclimb circuit. This year’s gathering will include a number of NASCAR stock cars in honor of the 50th anniversary of Daytona International Speedway. The car was prepared by and will be cared for at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by former #3 team crew members Danny Lawrence and Rich Burgess. Lawrence is currently the assistant head engine builder/trackside manager for Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines and Burgess is the shop manager for RCR’s #31 Caterpillar team in the NSCS.(RCR)
AND: and a couple drivers with NASCAR connections will attend the festival with Mike Skinner driving a Red Bull Racing Toyota and Rusty Wallace in a NASCAR Dodge Charger. More info on the festival at
