So I search for pie on google and I get the expected results...first being this

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pie

But when I click it a new tab opens (which usually it just loads in the original window or unless I click open in new tab.

I am getting directed to sites like these

http://horizon-ocean.info/search.php?aid=13866&said=61-v2test8&keyword=pie&ipr=&rej=1
http://ideal-summit.info/search.php?aid=13866&said=61-v2test8&keyword=pie&ipr=&rej=1
http://www.cafemom.com/?utm_source=...b052-c343f9cc276c&sendroikwd=apple+pie+recipe
http://clauseintroduction.info/search.php?aid=13866&said=61-v2test8&keyword=pie&ipr=&rej=1

It's a different site each time!

I just want to find some pie...:( Is google just messed up or is there something else going on with my browser? (Both in Firefox 3.0.3 and IE 7 it's doing this to me)

I’m not sure what your antecedent is… do you mean when you click on the Wikipedia link, you get a new tab with those other sites? Sounds like something on your end – working fine here.

I mean when I type in any word (I used pie as an example) and when for example I clicked on the first result being the wiki link, THEN from the google search results I am directed to a different site like those above. I already deleted all history/cookies/etc in both browsers.

This happened to my aunts computer last week. It's obviously some sort of malware/virus. I ran Adaware but it didn't find anything. I couldn't download Spybot to try it because whatever *it* was, was keeping me from getting to the Spybot website to download it. I eventually had to fix the problem with a format/reinstall.

One of my home computers does it, too, just in IE, not FF. Clicking a Google search result gives me everything in the universe EXCEPT what I clicked. It does it three times after each search, then behaves correctly. Never found a fix, I just click, hit stop, click, hit stop, click hit stop, and proceed. Adds about 10 seconds total. Or just copy the link listed in the search result to the address bar.

I would suggest running a good virus system like AVG or something like that and see what it finds. And if I understand it right, computer viruses can evolve into even worse crap. You want to catch it before it gets worse.

Last time something like this happened I was infected with that antivirus xp 2008 which is really ruthless and currently going around... It will hijack the use of your browsers (as well as do other nasty things) so that you cannot search for removal solutions, anything you type into google you will be directed to an unrelated site usually with more virus' there...

One browser it didnt affect was Chrome (it being so new and still in beta) so I was lucky being able to use that to get the tools and info to remove it.

I would suggest you download chrome beta and try that... if your results come up correct on it then you most likely have a virus... if its the same as your other browsers then it might be somthing else.

Try all the usual spyware S&D, ad-aware and hijack this... etc etc...see what comes up..

Good Luck...

Robin

Well another method you could use is by installing and running SDFix on your computer. I had a virus attack before this and was glad that SDFix removed the bad trojan virus. Don't know if you have the same problem, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try it out anyhow..... 👍

Just follow these steps and hopefully get whatever that thing was out of your computer:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic131299.html

Also after running the scan and the steps above, be sure to use any antivirus software on your computer and run it to check if there is anything suspicious running on your computer......

thanks for the warning, guys. this would explain why my AdAware crashed out and locked up.

Muzaffar Musa or someone if you don't mind could you post the steps since it's giving me a page load error?

It also seems now that my browser is acting really slow and sluggish (not just downloading stuff but just pages loading and tabs opening and closing, slight freezes when loading pages and all that junk)

Oh okay, since you are having troubles I'll try to post the steps up here.

SDFix Instructions:

  1. Please print these instructions as they will be needed later when Internet
    access is not available.

  2. Logon to your computer with an account that has Administrator privileges.

  3. Download SDFix.exe from the following link and save it to your desktop:

    SDFix Download Link

Confirm that the file SDFix.exe now resides on your desktop, but do not double-click on the icon as of yet. We will use
it in later steps. The icon will look like the one below:

    icon.gif

  4. Now, double-click on the SDFix icon that should now be residing on your
    desktop.
If a Open File - Security Warning box opens, click on the Run button.

  5. A window will open asking where you would like to install SDFix to.

    sdfix-install.jpg

Do not change anything and press the Install button. This will install the program into the default location of C:\SDFix. At this point, you should not run SDFix, but instead continue to the next step where you will reboot into safe mode.

  6. Next, please reboot your computer into Safe
    Mode
    by doing the following:

    1. Restart your computer

    2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the
      Windows icon appears, press F8.

    3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear

    4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

    5. When you are at the logon prompt, log in as the same user that you had
      performed the previous steps as.

  7. When your computer has started in safe mode, and you see the desktop, close
    all open Windows.

  8. Click on the Start button, click on the Run menu option, and type the following into the Open: field:

    C:\SDFix\RunThis.bat

    Then press the OK button.

  9. The SDFix window will open, as shown below, containing some brief info and a disclaimer on the use of the tool.

    sdfix-disclaimer.jpg

If you want to continue, please press the Y key on your keyboard and then press enter. Otherwise, you can press the N key to exit the program.

  10. SDFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections as seen in the image below.

    scanning.jpg

This process can take a while, so you may want to do something else and periodically check back on the status of SDFix. As the scanning process continues you will continue to see new messages on the screen as shown in the figure below.

    scanning2.jpg

  11. When the scanning process has finished you will see a new screen stating that you need to restart your computer in order to continue.

    restart.jpg

At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to restart the computer.

  12. When your computer reboots, you will be presented with a screen stating that SDFix has finished.

    finished.jpg

At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to continue to your desktop.

  13. When you are back at your Windows desktop, the SDFix log will automatically be opened in notepad.

    sdfix-log.jpg

Review the log as necessary to see what was removed and then close the Notepad window.

Now that SDFix has finished running, any Worms or Trojans that it knows how to remove should have been deleted from your computer.

If after attempting these instructions you still have an infection,
then it is advised that you post your HijackThis log so one of our experts can
help you remove it. Instructions on how
to post a HijackThis log can be found here:

Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log

Hope that helps out a bit. 👍 By the way, how do you manage to view GTPlanet if you cant view other sites right now? By the sound of things it looks like its getting worse..... :indiff:
