Google's entry into the IM world has been rumored for a long time, and today those rumors were confirmed with Google Talk. I downloaded and installed it, and I must say it's not bad at all...I wish other IM software was that simple and straightforward. Nevertheless, I still feel that the IM market was overcrowded 5 years ago...it will be interesting to see how Google tries to handle this.

I can't help but feel that Google is trying to rush new products out the door to justify their super-high stock price now that they are public.

What does IM software have to do with search? Google should stick to thier core product before they spread themselves too thin.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the update Jordan....now, what's your handle on it? :sly:

I don't know, they original were a search engine, but that's obviously not the case now.

Google Talk is sort of special in that it's capable of doing text messaging just fine, yes, but it's main and most attractive feature is the "Talk" feature. That is to say, you know, actually talking to the other person. Granted, that kind of feature has been around for a while now, it's often too hard for a lot of people to get working, or just too much of a pain. If it's easy to do with Google Talk, and it works well, I think they may just rise to the top of the IM market really quickly.

the conglomerate of the century.

I dunno ... It's pretty hard to get my friends to even try any other IM software since they all discovered msn messenger 7. I've managed to get 1 person to use skype too, but only because his micophone won't work with msn. I might give it a go later, after i've solved this windowblinds problem :ouch:

My friend told me about it earlier today. I've downloaded it, but I don't have much people yet. Still worth a try though.

Will we be able to add our Google Talk messaging handles into our profiles? 💡

Downloading now, my handle is the same as my MSN one. (that is, check my profile if you care)
