Is anyone else in this one?

It's an interesting concept, and quite strange and difficult to learn quickly, but I kinda like it.

A quick 7:50 overview:

There's also an 80 minute product launch video, I won't embed that for obvious reasons.

Good find! Looks to be very useful and Google is the #1 contender to take down M$

It's basically like a mega chat/history/content log that is stored instead of just text mail. Pretty interesting. Yeah, it's a little bit like a facebook group but is not as confined to being within one website. I like it.

Also, that guy has really small hands.

So, anybody here into the beta/preview program? I am, and I have a couple of invites left that I'm willing to share. The first two to respond in this thread that they want one will get one. :)

Yeah I'm in the preview. It's surprisingly stable, especially considering that it's a developer preview. Lots of work still to be done on it obviously, but it looks good.

I'm in it, but I really have nothing to do with it. All my coding projects I do on my own, and msn is where all my friends are at.

Edit: I just looked and I have 16 invitations.

I would like an invite, I tried to get into the beta when they were accepting applications.

Also got invites here. I like it, but the lack of a good way to organise a number of documents with a group of people kind of kills it for use at work.

What do you mean by not implemented? I added tags (e.g. 'X-Commandos') to a wave I've created and you can find it again by typing 'with:public:tag:X-Commandos'. Or are you referring to something else?

Just send me your e-mail address over PM and I'll send an invite. :)

Actually I just got an invite last night, I don't know if Google sent it to me or someone here did. Either way thanks anyway.

I'd like an invite if anyone has one. PM me and receive gratitude in return.

I too would be greatful if anyone is willing to send an invite. Many thanks.

[Got one now, thankyou NLxAROSA]👍

You have a PM. :)

Invite sent, but best remove that email address from the public part here to avoid spam. :)

Thankyou very much :)👍. And I'm not too worried about spam but I may aswell remove it now anyway, thanks.

Here's a handy page to help you guys with searching for the good stuff. It contains a list of search terms to use. They can be combined. :)

EDIT: All out of invites. :)

So I have Wave, right. But nobody else does. I can't wave with anyone, damn it.

That appears to be the problem with most people. ;) I have been waving with a few though. And it's definitely a preview, it would need some major upgrades to be useful to the big public. Still, I think it has potential!

What I hate about it is when you're on a wave with someone and wind up using it as an IM service. It clearly isn't... very disorganized and choppy.

It needs things like access control. I really don't see the point of two people editing the exact same reply at the same time (yes, you can type in my response while I am typing it :p). That way you can also prevent certain parts of a wave being edited by others. And performance is an issue, especially with large waves.

I've got invites if people need them too. I have yet to do much of a wave with anyone, which is disappointing, especially with how totally awesome the thing is.

Okay now a few of you have had a fiddle, could you please explain if this is anymore than just Facebook Groups, without the Facebook...

It's real time and not limited to facebook.

Tough question. Wave is still a preview and to me it looks more like email than social groups, but the similarities are definitely there. Wave provides more control over content because of the API that allows you to do almost anything, but it also lack several basic features like access control; meaning most public waves turn into a mess because anybody can do anything, and you can't keep waves private if you want to because the people you add to the wave can add whoever they want too. Performance is also a big problem. It also lack (proper) integration with other technologies like e-mail.

So far, most waves turn out to be nothing more than a forum thread with some gadgets and bots thrown in (even though some bots and gadgets are quite interesting). I've hardly seen any worthwhile waves.

But I can most definitely see the potential; but only if Google (or other developers, since it's going to be open sourced) can tackle some of the flaws. I like the fact that everything is realtime and it's very flexible, so you can use it as collaboration, social networking, marketing or .... platform, whatever you want really. 👍

So right now, it's hard to judge what the hell it is exactly, but maybe that's the big strength, and you can make it to be anything you want. :) I think I like it.

Apparently on the drawing board is the ability to lock waves, ability to hide what you're typing, ability to manage GMail and I assume other email providers.
Still a long way to go with it

The best use I can imagine for Wave is to hold remote business meetings. It basically accomplishes the same thing as a meeting.

Yep I've got 22 invites now, PM me if you want one and haven't already requested one.

I can see it being handy, but not for the things they suggest. Business meetings, education papers, stuff that needs to be proof read and edited by a number of people.
