I had received this message in my PS3 inbox about a charecter named named "psdeath666." Apparentlly, this person has made something similar to a virus for the PS3. DO NOT open a message if you get it from this person. DELETE IT. It may have a image attatched, but apparently if you open the message, the PS3 will crash and damage some important parts of it.

I'm not sure if this is real or if it's a joke, but I'm not taking chances. I would suggest you don't either. If you have people n your friends list, you may want to advise them.

Isn't that SOP for all messages, whatever their delivery method?

If you don't know who it's from, chuck it.

I have been receiving too much spam lately. There are about 3 different mails going around about Modern Warfare 2, map packs and paying to play etc. Thats all a load of crap. I have received 10 copies of this virus message and another message telling me to put "PSN Will Be Free' as my comment because some 10 year old kid made up a rumour saying we may have to pay in the future.

Shame that a coupe of them are from GTP so I cant really delete them.

First of all to my knowlegde, to even get a virus on your PS3 someone would have to write one specificly for the PS3 operating system. A virus writen for the PC wouldn't do anything to a PS3. Also I am not sure you can even send a virus in an image/text file and they are the only things you can send over the PSN.
Then, if someone could send you a virus, why would they warn you about it, it is just some idiot winding you up.

Due to the Copy & Paste feature added recently, these types of Spam/Chain messages have really increased. If someone sends you one just delete them as a friend and/or block them, problem solved.

I have not been receiving any spam or junk like this at all. People on my friends list haven't been sending this stuff to me either. It must have something to do with posting your PSN name all over the web or something like that.

No, not really, its just the kind of people you add. I played CoD alot and added tonnes of randoms, about 30-40 over time, they are all 10-15 years old basically and the people they add are all the same, I get spam from them if anyone.

I haven't either, yet at least. I have seen loads of people complaining about it though on the Official Playstation Forums.

Wow. You're probably very lucky or have chosen your friends wisely. ;) I have got so many spam mails it be hard to count them, really!

I think going to have to delete those people, because it's getting annoying.

Realy I think the whole 3.0 update made the PS3 look and feel cheap.

You wont get a virus from a text msg on your PS3.

In fact you wont ever get a virus on your PS3 because any program wich can run on the PS3 operating system must be aproved by Sony.

90% of my PSN friends are either people I know in person or are people from GTP. The remaining 10% are guys I meet/met regularly playing GT5P or FC.

I don't have any spam problems.

But my friends list is nearly full, already had to delete guys I don't meet since a long time ago and it bothers me, I just hope they (Sony) increase the limit number in a future update :indiff:

I've had the same message from different people (not on friends list) about sending the message on to 20 people and receive £20 PSN credit, apparently to test message circulation.

As anyone should do I just deleted it and placed the sender on my block list.

Actually it's not the people you add, but the people who you've played with.

I've been getting heaps of spam because I play alot of CoD and GTA IV public servers. Hopefully someone can put a stop to this.

As like everyone else I just delete or reply with fail.

Same goes for the iPhone, yet a few people found an exploit that an obscenely long text message could be sent that would overflow the memory allocated for the text message itself, somehow spilling into some more important system memory addresses and being ran as code. Those people kept it to themselves and allowed Apple to put out a patch against that, luckily. I'm sure something similar could be possible for a PS3. I'd rather get a PS3 virus than a phone virus though. No private information or anything important on my PS3.

What I don't get is that this sort of spam has always existed. Whether its the 'don't add thisperson@this.domain on MSN because they're a virus, or if you forward this email to everyone you know you'll get $50 from Microsoft, or something about facebook becoming a premium service so you have to join this group to keep it free...

No one really ever fell for it then, so why now? It's so much less likely to be true on a PS3 anyway, well the virus part, I had a message saying Sony wanted to test how many accounts were still active on PSN and the only way to do that was to see who forwarded on a chain message, of course.

I think I only have two people who frequently forward me stuff like that, I might just go and delete them...

The only thing I have seen, or heard of so far, is an account getting hacked by some other user, and the original user ended up having to restart their game(s). I'm not sure of the details though, honestly. I would think you'd have to give up your info for them to get it.. etc.

You know, the funniest thing will be at some certain point some user will create a message about chain mails and talking about you should stop spreading them but yet they will send it out constantly.

Yes, that wouldn't surprise me at all. Infact, it is possible someone has already created one, although I haven't heard about it if they have.
If I see one, i'll be sure to blame you for it, for giving them the idea.;)
