Did anyone watch the first race in the new GP Masters series yesterday? I managed to see the first half of the opening race at Kyalami, SA - complete with Murray Walker commentary! Once again, MW came out with a classis quote, and I quote "Nigel Mansell has won more Grand Prix than any other driver - except for Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost and the late Ayrton Senna" - pure gold Murray!

Great to see so many legendary names taking part, and such close racing, although oddly there didn't seem to be that much in the way of overtaking, except for Hans Stuck who started 9th (I think)..

The result:

01 Nigel Mansell 50m55.428s
02 Emerson Fittipaldi +00.408s
03 Riccardo Patrese +20.662s
04 Andrea de Cesaris +21.700s
05 Derek Warwick +21.853s
06 Hans-Joachim Stuck +23.201s
07 Christian Danner +24.188s
08 Eddie Cheever +32.205s
09 Jan Lammers +32.778s
10 Eliseo Salazar +43.419s
11 Patrick Tambay +m11.584s
12 Rene Arnoux +1m12.736s
13 Jacques Laffite +17 laps
14 Stefan Johansson +28 laps

Hmmmm it was nice to see them all o nthe track once again but the race was kind of dull, hopefully it will get better as the season goes on.

Good ol'Murray Walker never fails to make me laugh though...

I wish we had some coverage of this. It would be pretty awesome to see all the ol’ boys at it again. :)

Speed has shown highlights of the last 3 races. They were nearly full races really, maybe skipping like 2 or 3 laps throughout the whole race. They showed Qatar, Silverstone and Kyalami. I've looked on Wiki and that's all there was apparently. I thought they'd have more races. They had a Monza race cancelled apparently and 2 races they were supposed to run in September and November but were cancelled. In 2007 they will race at Bucharest and Monza apparently.

Yeah, we got a similar thing in Australia, they just showed Silverstone yesterday. I must have missed Kyalami, though.

I think the racing is pretty good. No pressure, just go out there and have fun sort of stuff. ;)

My main gripes with it:

- they shoulda gotten cars that resemble either 80s cars or early 90s cars
- it's too bad there's not more drivers like Mansell and Fittipaldi. What about Alain Prost, Nelson Piquet, Keke Rosberg? They probably did ask them though and probably refused to do it. :guilty:
