Gr.3 BoP Test

I've tested some Group 3 cars – only the most recent model per manufacturer, no VGTs – on 7 different tracks.

Driven by the AI in Auto-Drive mode, in a BoP + No Tuning + Equal Conditions lobby, recorded via the telemetry interface.

BoP top speed in square brackets. Assigned 20/15/12/9/7/5/4/3/2/1 points for positions 1-10, ranked by total points.

I wouldn't use this list to draw any definite conclusions – the AI doesn't drive like a human player, there is still some randomness involved, and I only tested half of the Group 3 cars – but I guess it's still somewhat useful.

I have lots of experience with the Custom Race AI but not with the “autodrive” one (assuming they’re different). One of the weird things therein is a bug where the AI doesn’t fully open the throttle.

When you suggest it doesn’t drive like a human, I am curious to learn more. Is it ‘trying’ to drive a racing line, like we know the AI to do when racing against us, or is it more of a ‘keep moving forward’ kind of behavior, without any real oomph behind it?

What DOES stand out to me is the ranking of the cars and how it aligns very closely with how AI tends to fare in these cars in Custom Races. Seems the AI struggles with the Supra, NSX, 650s…at the same time is very reliable with the AMG and Ferrari. Suppose I would have expected better from the Corvette and 911, two cars that I occasionally need to ballast to keep in line with the others.

I am especially thin on data here, but it seemed to me to translate down to the road cars, as well. Supras and McLarens fall way behind in otherwise-balanced grids when piloted by the AI.
