Gr. 4 Speedway tuning - How do YOU shave off time?

Preparing for endurance races on the Northern Isle Speedway, I need input on tuning cars for this event. I'm lost right now, and I'm falling behind on the laps. Without a perfect pit strategy it's a sure loss in this event..

Can someone please give me some tips and tricks for shaving time off my laps?
 
Try and hold the middle of the turns and go to the inside when exiting the turn to gain more speed.
