Ok I got it. I haven't played long but from the first level alone I'm still liking r-Type final more. Are there any other classic style shooter fans out there? R-Type Final was a great shooter, lots of guys over at game faqs are saying GV destroies it. I'm a bigger fan of the R-Type series than Gradius so I'l have to see what all the fuss is about :).

I traded in Project gotham 2 for r-type (and never looked back), I just hope i get my $30 worth out of this one.

Digging up the past there seems to be a lack of interest :). Anyway I picked up playing again this time cheating with a code i discoverd, i didnt look it p i just tried it and it worked Konomi's famous up up down down code. I like this game I just may get Gradius for PSP. Now they need to make all those classic overhead shooters from the arcade for psp too.


Playing more this game is more fun then when i first started playing and its a pretty game with no alising. Looks good on my 23" LCD TV to. I ot to Stage 5 using the code. The "option" controls are nice, I like the one where you can aim the "options" it gets all those hard to reach guys.

Anyway i dusted it off and hope to beat it unlike R-type which gets insanely hard to beat near the end just like the original game.

Well...it's not really like Gradius OR R-Type, since it's a vertical shooter, but I would suggest picking up a copy of either Mobile Light Force 2 for the PS2 or Castle Shikigami 2. It's an anime style shmup :O!! I got Castle Shikigami 2 for like..$5-6 on ebay and it's a pretty good shooter. I would also suggest some titles if you have a means of playing Japanese PS2 games. Well..just in case you do, here's some to look up. Keep in mind, these did NOT come stateside for PS2.

But anyways...as far as stateside PS2 shmup games, the only ones I could really suggest are the ones I own. Gradius III&IV, Gradius V, R-Type Final, and Castle Shikigami 2. Anyways..good luck :p!
 
Gradius V kicks. 👍 When you're maxed out with the standard laser and aimable options, the good ol' Vic is unstoppable. :trouble:
 
Yeah, if I remember correctly, my favorite Type was 4. I think there's five right? I haven't played it in about a month or so to be honest with you. I'm into vertical shooters at the moment, sooo..yeah. I'll pick back up on Gradius later XD. But anyways...all I know is, it's awesome to have Laser, Missile (that goes up and drops down), and have four options that you can make swirl around the Vic Viper T-301 (I think >_>) by holding down a button. That's just mean :O!

P.S. And who could forget the forcefield :lol:! I know I did -.-'...hence why I edited this post :p
 
I've played the Gunbird games on mame. but Vasara1/2 is very nice but i dont think it ever came to consoles. I have played around 20 vertical shooters for Mame. Visco i think has a vertical shooter for PSP,

I also got Thunder Force V from Ebay, its great.
