Welcome one and all, to the first ever "GT2 2009 Grand Prix"! Unlike the previous tourneys I expect this one to have the finest racers from all over gtplanet compete against on another for the right to face last year's champion Viperin for the title of...

GTMASTER!

That being said, here are the basic rules:

1. As each week progresses, you will be allowed to use more powerful cars.
2. Only simulation mode will be used here.
3. No altered cars allowed here!
4. The car you will enter for the week must be racing modified.
5. In conjunction with rule #4 we will have at least a week for rally cars only during the tournament.
6. You may have as many do overs until the track race is complete.
7. Either a snapshot of the time or typed time is acceptable proof, due to the "honor system" I use.

Also, I have a few more things to add. As for the leaderboard everyone's record will be in the usual NFL format without the ties. And I will put up the leaderboard after each race as a constant update.

I look forward to this great race from all of you, so do your very best and show me what you've got!:)👍

How can this be the "first ever" if we have a "last year's champion"?

Like I said, the first ever "Grand Prix". The last tournaments weren't Grand Prix strength. Just, "street racing" strength.

You might get more traffic if this was in Online Racing>>>Race Series>>>Long or Short Race Series.

Hmm, good point.💡 Can someone move this thread to there? This way like he said, it would probably generate more traffic which would in turn become more exciting!:gtpflag:

UPDATE: The first race will not begin for 2 more weeks at least. If no one has joined within that time then I will postpone the tourney until the 4 racers enter. But just to give you a good idea on what the first track MIGHT be, here's a hint; it is a course that is considered to have an I-A difficulty and it is one of the real courses of the game. That is all I will say.

Has Viperin posted that he will participate?

You can say anything and deliver nothing. Direct us to the post that shows any race results you've run in out of the many you've proposed. I will race only if you commit to race too. Some other guys might jump in too. It's up you to provide a good faith effort.

The ball's in your court.

edit: Made Viperin aware that his name was mentioned in this thread. He had no knowledge of this series and did not plan on participating in it. There wasn't even a race. He was the only one to send in a picture of a car! GTMaster08, it is good manners to receive permission before you commit someone to race. Bad move. I am not participating in this event.

Ok then, I guess I should have asked before I put Viperin in the tourney. So in all fairness I will be the first entrant in the tournament. I will even tell you which cars I will use for the first round which by the way will consist of entirely C class cars. I will be using the Mercury Cougar [R] for the first track.

How's the race going? The suspense is killing me.

I haven't started the GP yet. I still need 3 more racers remember? It would have only been 2 more but you dropped out.

Only after reading some of your other posts and finding very few if any races that you have actually run in yourself. Didn't want to end up having to defend my title a year down the road for a race that might never happen.

Well don't worry; I will definitely be racing this time. To be honest, the other tourneys were... tests to gauge other racers' strength. But now that I know what I'm up against, I can race. After all, there's a strategy I live by and it's this; "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." But in this case it's really, "Keep other racers close, and their driving strength closer." After all, that's why I really created the tournaments and respective challenges! This way, I could carefully study other racers' driving styles so that I would have a chance to beat them in a competition!:trouble::trouble:

Great strategy.

They all left. :ouch:

You win.

So who am I supposed to race now? After all, I was just about to start the competition!

*sigh* Well I guess that since nobody is going to race in this tournament then this thread was a waste of time. I don't know, all I want is some competition to help me further my training...

Do you realize that the reasons you're doing this in the first place are completely misguided? If you state openly that you're only "letting" everyone else race to get some competition and to show that you can beat them, then nobody will participate. Race series are supposed to be an opportunity to give everyone a structured way to enjoy a game, not to be a self-serving way to show that you're the best.

I see. In that case, I would like everyone to give this thread one last chance. I will race but only to race for fun, not bragging rights. And just to be fair, this tournament is open to ANY person that wishes to have a good, clean race. And to everyone else, I am truly sorry... can you ever forgive me?

If this race series gets enought interest, then I consider this worth of racing.
(short, I'm in :trouble:)

MadMax

ps. if and when the time comes, inform me by pm.

Can do, my friend.:) Anyway, I'll try to spread the word around as much as possible.

Please don't, if that means spamming other threads with advertisements for your series.

Also, how did you think that simply saying that racing only for fun and not for bragging rights would actually mean something? Of course, it's easy to write something without believing it, and considering that the underlying structure of your "tournament" is still to have everybody else racing to determine who is the best, and then racing you to see whether they're better, I don't think you actually believe what you said. It's only really fair if everyone races simultaneously under equal conditions, and you don't have that here.

I do want everyone to race under equal condidtions! In fact, I want everyone to disregard all of my conditions! That way, we can have a straight competition. No HP limits, no specific car classes, no restrictions! The only thing I do ask is that everyone who is going to race to give it their all and do not use any gameshark or action replay modified cars to race. In fact, I'll even give the first track we will be racing on. The first track, which I did say has an I-A difficulty and is real is none other than Laguna Seca! And I swear never to use my own tournaments for my own selfish purposes again, I promise!

You need to set the conditions of your race/race series. Otherwise nobody will know what they are racing for. You drive a city car I drive a GT-One. Guess who wins. Me. What fun is that.

Check out the other threads. ex. GTPLMS/Honda/Yellowbird/Supercar Cup/Caterham to name a few. As I mentioned in another thread to you. Beg, borrow (not steal) from the others with their permission.

Some races like Abud's GTPLMS state the cars/tracks/penalty system upfront for all to see. Others like Austin343's short race series give you a little something up front ie. Honda cars. And then they give you the car/track periodically. All give you a firm time frame with concise details on what is and isn't allowed. Designing a race series on the fly might not be the best idea.

Example: your race challenges in the Gran Turismo 2 best times thread are confusing. Running at Trial Mountain you stated that your time was 2'49.xxx I think. It took me 1'23.xxx to do the lap. Am I that much better with the same car? I suspect not. It was probably a 2 lap time but it wasn't specified in the thread. Something like Arcade/Track/#laps/Car name/stock settings with trans and tires adjustment up to the driver, would have helped alot.

Guys and I hope girls someday just like to race. Give them a reason to do it.

Ok, how about these conditions:

1. Each leg of the tournament will consist of 10 tracks for every car class. In other words, we will only be racing on 40 tracks in the game.

2. The first track will be picked by me and the other 39 we will have a majority vote on the next track.

3. The first 10 tracks will be played only with a C class car, the next 10 with a B class car, the 10 after that with A class cars, and the final round with S class cars.

4. As for the scoring system;

1st place: 10 pts
2nd place: 9 pts
3rd place: 8 pts
4th place: 7 pts
5th place: 6 pts
6th place: 5 pts
7th place: 4 pts
8th place: 3 pts
9th place: 2 pts
10 place and lower:1 pt

Now then, shall we have a clean race?:) Oh, and that wasn't a challenge thread. Just simply put up your best runs for all to see!

40 tracks is alot, especially if that's one track/week. ( that's 40/52 weeks of a year  )

I'd be in for all the 40 but I doubt that others would be in for sutch a long commitment.
(I may be wrong)

The scoring system should be more win-awarding thought. Miss one race
and you'll need to finish one position higher for 10 weeks. That would be very frustrating.

Alternative scoring for example:

1st place: 20p
2nd place: 15p
3rd place: 12p
4th place: 10p
5th place: 9p
6th place: 8p
and so on
13th place: 1p
14th on: 1p for participating

Then, it would be good to specify if the series would be purely
hotlapping , AI races or something from between.
And what about using a tuned car. (own tune)
Basicly Racing Modification, suspension , transmission , tyres and power adders ect.

Stock cars or tuned, how about limited tuning?

Hmm,💡 ok then. We'll use that scoring system instead to avoid frustration. Also, I guess we can shorten the race to 20 tracks. That way, we can race on 5 different tracks for each round.
1. The rounds will be played out in Arcade mode in time trial. As for the cars, cars from arcade mode will be used. You may also use cars from Simulation mode (via home garage) as long as the car you will be using fits into the class category we will be using.
2. As for the body, it may be racing or non racing modified. Weight reduction is also acceptable, and you may use any performance & HP enhancing parts as you wish. BUT, you must keep the HP =<500 for each round.
3. You (and I) only get 3 do-overs for the entire race series.

Again, I look forward to this series and I wish everyone good luck.

Regards,
