Is that how you spell hiatus?

Anywho.
This is not like that other topic in which the creator suggested the GT4 forum be closed. This is instead a topic for all those people who want GT4 to be a surprise (well, you know what i mean) and not have it ruined by reading a topic which tells you new information about the game.

So. If the release date does stay at November, then i will be leaving the GT4 forum until after it is released. Not sure when i'll leave yet but i'm thinking about mid July?

It is especially hard for me as i own and maintain a Gran Turismo website. :(

Anyone else feel the same way about this subject as me?

No not really. I would much rather get as much information about the game so I can tackle the game head on and use this to my advantage and not make so many mistakes in GT3. By this I mean the following:~

In each championship there are a number of races. For the whole of the Beginner League I did each individual race and then wondered how to get the final trophy for each of them. I discovered that you did this by winning the championship. What a dunce I felt but I still did all the races before I did the championship. I soon realised all I needed to do was the championship to get all the trophies. I felt the complete fool as I wasted so many good playing hours.

Anyway, I'd like to learn from my mistakes. I even did a similar thing in Gran Turismo Concept, instead of doing each race straight away on hard I did it first on normal. I soon figured you only needed to do it on Hard and if you won that, you won the easy mode car as well.

I'm so silly. As I said I'd like to be well informed. I'll will no doubt make a mistake in GT4:P oh well the first mode I'll be tackling in GT4 is arcade, unlock all the tracks and some awesome cars and learn them, should be fun. Can't wait!

I can sympathise; if not for these forums I'd have no idea whatsoever what was coming in GT4, and would thus be completely and utterly floored by the whole Nordschleife and the various LM cars included. However, I find that a lot of the atmosphere that comes from gaming, and my pleasure from it, comes from the people themselves. So all the enthusiasm and fanatacism of people posting every single morsel of information they can scrape off every gaming site around the world, along with their own real life experiences, just adds to the excitement and enjoyment for me. So though it may pain me to learn some of the secrets before I discover them myself, I'll be sticking around just to enjoy the atmosphere of expectation that warms this forum.

I don't really see the difference. You both don't want to know anything about GT4 until it comes out. It's the two types of people I talked about in my first weekly column for IGN.

I personally like to know as much as there is to know about GT4 in advance. You see, the game is about driving a car, and however much we can learn about this game in terms of facts and figures, the actual driving won't start until November. Until then, I like to learn about the cars I may come across in the game. It will still be a surprise to hear which car I can win, drive or buy where, but once I see the car in the game I know what I got. Or when I have to buy my first car, I know which of 30 cars would suit me better.

This game is simply huge - from what we've learnt so far, that much is very clear - and even if I manage to finish the game completely, there is the online aspect of it. And so far in any game I've played that aspect of racing has been far superior than anything the single player portion of a game can offer.

That said, I wouldn't mind reading a column like the one I'm writing myself, that just summarises the news of the week and saves me a lot of time browsing all the different forums for information. But since I happen to be the one having taken that task upon me, I'm one person who doesn't have that option.

I'd offer to do it, but I do too little uni work as it is, especially since I learned about these forums, so for the sake of my future, I think I'll just stick to posting. At least until mid year break.

Yeah I keep thinking about dissapearing until after its released, still feel a bit 'guilty' after viewing the 304 pics of GT4 cars thread. Still theres many more suprises left (Hopefully Volvo, lambo & SEAT).

Still what if it doesn't come out in November... then I'll wonder whats happened

Thats what I feel like.

Same here but I can't resist. I don't want to know every car and every secret before I even get the game. Dissapearing when the next batch of info is released might be a good idea.

Well people didn't take to kindly when I mentioned this.

I'm with you Mustang-man. When GT3 came out, I had seen almost everything the game had to offer from all the info from the earlier Japanese release, so it felt like I had already played it a little. I was just thinking about this last week that I might not want to see anything more on GT4 till it's in my hands. But this time if a Japanese version is released earlier, I have the ability to play it now so this won't be a factor.

Are you kidding? I'm lapping it up like the slavering lap-dog to Gran Turismo that I am!

I know that it's nice to have surprises revealed only when you play a GT series game for the first time. The sparks flying from under the cars in GT3 was a big surprise for me, for example, but I don't like surprises that can effect my game play. Knowing what cars will be a great way for me to strategise my game play. The same goes for racing events, and how to best attack them.

I totally agree, its not like a story orientated game like GTA, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry etc. Nothing can give you the information of how it feels to drive the cars on the new tracks, you need to actually experience it. So I sure will be sticking around up until the release.

All I really what to know is what racing cars are in, and a few screens of all the tracks there are. Things like what stock cars are in dont really worry me.
What im going to leave for a surprise is tunning options, what the game set-out is like and mabey some of the new modes.

Nothing beats playing the actual game its self. When I watched a video of the Tsukuba, I couldnt wait for my GT4: P to arrive so I was sort of visualising what the track was going to be to race on.
But the when the day came and I chose the Evo 4 on Tsukuba for the first time, It was way better than what I had imagined!
So yea im gonna stick around untill people start to reveal the small things like I mentioned before.

First off, Mustang-Man, nice of you to say that this is not a "get rid of GT4 threads" topic. I thought it was as foolish as the San Diego Chargers wanting Eli Manning.

Anyhow, I think this game will be as in-depth as an RPG. It might even be as deep as "Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution's" Quest Mode. Quest Mode in that game can take weeks, even months. I haven't found my CD for it, but I'm still at Sega World East trying to get into the bigtime championship. And then to unlock Dural, you have to finish the game with ALL 15 characters. And as it relates to Gran Turismo 4, I want a racing game that I can keep racing even if I [want to] make the 100% completion. To me, I don't care if I don't beat GT. I think a game like GT is so good to beat. Once you win all the races, you're pretty much done. Sometimes, I just try to work on other races, THEN go up to the bigtime events. And to me, that's like my final plans for GT3. When I win all the other races, I want to complete my experience in this order: Polyphony Digital Cup, GT World Championship, Formula GT. GT4 will have more things to do than any other racing game I've ever played, including other GT games. If this game isn't in the Top 10 of almost every game magazine (except for non-PS2 magazines) in terms of "Game of the Year," you're an idiot. I just hope GT4 will continue where GT3 left off, execute what GT2 couldn't, and still remind us of why we liked the first GT to begin with. If you can't appreciate GT4 and the effort put into it, you're not a real GT fan. Get all three GT games if you don't already. That's at least a total of 60-70 dollars, considering all three of them are Greatest Hits with GT4 to make it 4 for 4.

Enough of my talk, I'll just look forward to this game and get ready to play it. I just want the game, not the steering wheel or some bundle. It's all about the game and nothing else.

I'll tell you what. If GT3 is as big as it is (which it is and isn't - stay with me here) then i'd say that GT4 could possibly hold my interest for well over five years.

I've had GT3 since day one, finished it (100%) nearly a year ago and yet i am still not bored with it! My new PS2 (over a year old now) has been running GT3 and GTConcept for well over 75% of its life. Possibly even over 85%. I've been playing GT3 for three years now which is the longest amount of time i've spent on any game ever (spent about two 1/2 or less years on GT2 which is in second place).

Anywho with over 500, possibly even over 700 cars and one certain 20.8 km German track - i think this game is going to last an awful long time indeed.

Ah yes I would say my PS2 is very intimate with both GT3 and GT: Concept but sadly GTA3 and Vice City took up the majority of its use. I know for a fact that GT4 will probably be my PS2's demise as I'll be playing it until my PS2 is litrally sparking and about to explode.

mine would be playing gt3 98% of the time and gt concept 2% :)

gotta start playing gta3 and vice city though....

oh well next week gt4 prologue is coming out:D

*nods slowly* Very nice.

I think the bottom line to all this is that the individual features of GT4 are part of a whole. Whether it has X car or Y track or Z mode won't make or break the experience because it's the synthesis of so many wonderful individual elements that makes it so great. So even if you know what modes are going to be in there, or what cars, or what tracks, even if you know every single thing there is to know about GT4, you won't have experienced the synthesis, the coming together of all those individual elements into a refined whole. That's what GT is about.

Discovering your favourite car ever is in GT4? The feeling from that might last a few days, at most. Sure you'll use that car and be thankful you can, but just the fact it's there will wear out fast. The wonderful physics, graphics, sound, AI (cross your fingers), cars, tracks, variety? Those things together are what will have us posting here until about 2008.
