While playing GT5 I felt a tight knot of repressed frustration tighten in my stomach as a the seasonal event asked for sports hard tyres on hyperpowerful cars.
"No matter" I thought to myself exhaling slowly "its all part of the charm of Gran Turismo..."
Seasonals completed (after a few moments where the words "oh thats bull****" and "Kiss my ***" where muttered. I return to the campaign... I look through the races... none that I have remaining or have already completed inspire me...
I sigh and think a free run pleasure drive... Looking over the hundreds of cars in the garage I quickly realise I've not driven a good few since I bought them, But then again who would want to drive a 2000 year Vauxhall Corsa more than once...
It quickly dawned on me that GT5 was much like a marriage, and its seasons and Academy where the final fling weekend breaks to keep the magic alive...
The excitement of the wedding day and the few months of honeymoon period are well and truly over... all those little quirks, dodgy shadows, some shocking standard cars, the lack of much sort after models and manufactures, more upto date and modern models and lack of truly challenging single player racing, all those quirks that were once quite charming and you would defend as 'unimportant' to the most part now annoy you...
She (GT5) niggles your nerve, the moments when you, miss out on a target time by .001 of a second, or your car strangely under steers like a pig, no longer inspire you to go back and try to get it right... they instantly annoy you and you find yourself being dealt a lesson by the harsh unforgiving bitch that is GT5, thats when your eyes drift to much less classy racers... your need for speed hot pursuits, Motorstorms etc... less pretty, but more ego stroking, more easy, thrill a minute, Hollywood style excitement...
Its wrong I know to look towards that sort of thing over the longer standing love that is GT5...
But I find myself more so these days than any other uttering those words that many a man has muttered about his wife...
"I love her... I feel I'm no longer in love with her"
Maybe another child (DLC) could rekindle some romance and stop me going for the cheap, fast, floozies that are the other racing games.
