Ive Been Searching For a Top Speed Setup But No one Has The Answer For It For Example, Dodge Viper Acr'08

Torque Diff:
Gear Ratios:
Gear 1:
Gear 2:
Gear 3:
Gear 4:
Gear 5:
Gear 6:

Downforce:

Suspention:
Etc.

People don't do a lot of top speed tunes because there are other important factors in racing. Sure you could have a car that can go 300 MPH but can it go around a corner with good speed and in a controlled fashion? Usually those two things are exclusive from one another. The tunes most people are putting out will allow you to go as fast as you possibly can, with what ever car your using, on what ever track you want. These tunes are much faster than the ones gunning for top speed and top speed alone.

But if you want max straight line speed then
No Downforce
Longest gears PD will allow
Slam the car to the ground
Make the suspension as tight as possible
Don't worry about the LSD your not really worrying about corners.
This should do you just fine.

Good list except for this. Gearing too tall will move the engine out of the powerband and cause you to lose speed. At vmax you want the engine running at the RPM that corresponds to peak horsepower.

*Facepalm* You make a great point, if going for top speed I would try to get the rev drop to land on the torque peak. I don't know why I said longest gears, must be staying up to late....

I wanted to post new topic but thankfully I found this one via search :D

So onto the topic. I watched recently some Moscow Unlim 500+ duels and that has inspired me to make my own top-speed beasts. Obviously I'm not gonna mention some obvious things such as car/enginge selections but I have couple of questions. Firstly, I want to race on Mulsane Straight on 2009 Chicaneless LeMans. Car I want to put as example here is 300ZX, since it has sequential turbos and therefore very nice torque/power distribution (near straight line that peaks roughly at rev limiter).

Questions are following:
- suspension setup, how to do it; I've picked up some good points when watching top gear (SE09 :D) that lowering the car would make it pass through the air more easily. But what then? Launch isn't really that important, but setting dampers and anti rolls is the pain for me because whatever I try, that deviates from stock settings a lot, brings the top speed down; I also take it as the obvious to zero-out cambers and toes, unless I'm wrong here too
- gearbox - are default auto-settings optimal? Because I don't know too much about fine-tuning each gear. How should it be done? Make lower gears longer and overdrive shorter so that engine operates at higher revs (and therefore power) when I change into 6th?
- aerodynamics - other than making it as low as possible, does installing spoiler and bumpers change top-speed reaching abilities a lot?

old thread but am still going to bump it as i need to know this aswell.

For example i have been racing online "FREE RUN SO NO DRAFT" and in my minolta i am doing 250mph on chicanless lemans 2009 and i get over taken by other race cars, they are going so fast that they go right of the map.

There are two keys to top speed.

One is raise the front as high as you can and lower the rear as low as you can, meaning the car must still be driveable with a high front and low rear. This increases the top speed of the car but makes it more difficult to drive with a tendency to oversteer.

Two, you must experiment with the transmission and there are two set ups. One is for drafting and one is for running alone. For running alone, you want the car reaching top speed at or just after the peak hp of the car. For drafting, you want the car to be reaching top speed in the draft at or just after the peak hp.

Those are two different setups. Speed in the draft on the big oval can be 100+km/h different. I'd suggest taking each car you want to do this type of thing with and using at least two different setups to accomodate both situations.

This is kinda close, If you want your TRUE top speed turn down you Areo in the front then mess with it in the back, for transmission First put your top speed all the way down the put your final gear all the way up then top speed up. This resets it so you can get the max torque out of the transmission, then move your final gear all the way down, then move your gears all the way up.(Your only going to be using 3 or 4 gears perfect for top speed runs, because you have extra gears to draft off of.) For Lsd You want 60 for torque 60 for acceleration and braking doesn't madder because your not going to be braking. Never slam the car to the ground, (Suspension) lower the back raise the front, lower the spring rate all the way down on both sides, dampers 1 1 10 10, making it so that every bump you hit you get some acceleration out of it. everything on 0 for wheel alignment. and that's a basic top speed tune. My dodge viper by its self's goes 253 on the straight on that tune.

Also slamming the car to the ground wont make you faster except have a higher cornering speed. I've tried it and maxing ride height will give a higher top speed. Hence why if you look at NASCAR Daytona tunes most are at 15/15 ride height where at Indy they run 10 or under as top speed isint as crucial as turing is.
