Gran Turismo 7 – Feedback on Realism and Gameplay Systems

Hello everyone,

I would like to share some feedback and suggestions for Gran Turismo 7 focused on improving realism and consistency in several core gameplay systems. This is written from the perspective of a long-time Gran Turismo player who appreciates the series’ goal of being “The Real Driving Simulator.”

1. Tire Wear and Failure Behavior

Currently, tires at maximum wear only lose grip but never suffer catastrophic failure.

In real motorsport, extreme tire degradation can lead to punctures, blowouts, or delamination.

Adding a small chance of tire failure under extreme conditions (very high wear + aggressive driving) could improve realism and endurance strategy.

2. Vehicle Damage and Persistence

The current damage system affects handling, but visual damage is limited and often appears to reset over time or without proper repair.

Examples:

  • Suspension or wheel damage affects steering briefly but is not visually persistent
  • Damage is often “repaired” outside of pit stops
A more realistic system could include:

  • Persistent damage until repaired in pits
  • More visible suspension, wheel, and body deformation
  • Optional “full damage” settings for realism-focused players

3. Brake Overheating and Fade

Brakes in GT7 rarely reach a point of true failure or severe fade.

In real racing, sustained overheating leads to:

  • Significant brake fade
  • Longer stopping distances
  • Risk of brake failure in extreme cases
Improving brake temperature effects and adding more visible heat (glowing discs, smoke under stress) would greatly improve immersion.

4. Transmission Protection and Over-Revving

Many cars appear to have artificial protection against mechanical damage from over-revving during downshifts.

It would improve realism if:

  • Cars without modern protection systems could suffer damage
  • Mis-shifts had more meaningful consequences

5. AI Behaviour and Race Dynamics

AI drivers are very consistent and rarely make mistakes, even under pressure or contact.

At the same time, contact with AI often has unrealistic physics impact on the player.

Suggested improvements:

  • Occasional AI mistakes (braking errors, spins, lock-ups)
  • AI-to-AI incidents
  • More realistic contact physics between cars
  • Variation in driver skill beyond just pace (consistency, aggression, mistakes)

Final Thoughts

These suggestions are aimed at increasing immersion and realism, especially for endurance racing and long-term gameplay depth.

Gran Turismo already sets a very high standard, and I believe these improvements could strengthen its identity even further as a true driving simulator.

Thank you for reading.
