Gran Turismo 7 – Sport Mode Redesign Proposal

Sport Mode has a strong foundation, but currently feels repetitive and underutilizes the game’s full potential in terms of tracks, cars, and race formats.

Below is a proposal to improve variety, engagement, and long-term player retention:

1. Expanded Daily Race Structure
  • Keep Daily Races A, B, C (short format)
  • Introduce a new “Daily Race D”:
- Endurance races (20–40 minutes)
- Tire wear and fuel consumption
- Mandatory pit strategies
- Dynamic weather and time transitions

2. Track Variety and Rotation
  • Increase track rotation frequency
  • Include tracks that are currently unused in Sport Mode
  • Ensure all tracks appear regularly in the online schedule

3. Car Variety and Category Expansion
  • Reduce over-reliance on Gr.3 and Gr.4
  • Introduce themed races using:
- Road cars (low, mid, high PP categories)
- Classic cars
- One-make races (specific models)
- Tuning-allowed events

4. Weekly Special Events
- Add a “Weekly Championship”:
- 3–5 races across different tracks
- Points-based system
- Rewards based on final ranking

5. Strategy-Based Racing
- More races with:
- Tire strategy variation
- Fuel management
- Weather changes
- Encourage different approaches instead of fixed strategies

6. Improved Matchmaking
  • Better driver rating balance
  • Reduce large skill gaps in lobbies
  • Optional “hardcore” lobbies (strict penalties, no assists)

7. Incentives and Rewards
  • Unique rewards for endurance races
  • Bonuses for using different car categories
  • Weekly challenges tied to Sport Mode participation

8. Dynamic Online Experience
  • Rotating conditions (weather/time)
  • Event variety to prevent repetition
  • Greater unpredictability in races

Conclusion:
These changes would significantly improve player engagement, reduce repetition, and better utilize the massive amount of content available in Gran Turismo 7.

Sport Mode has the potential to be one of the best online racing experiences, and these improvements would help achieve that.

Thank you for your continued support.

I 100% agree with this proposal — and honestly, Sport Mode in Gran Turismo 7 feels completely stagnant right now.
It makes no sense for a game with so much content to be constantly limited to Gr.3 and Gr.4 with the same race formats. That’s not “competitive variety” — that’s repetition.
An endurance-style Daily Race D is not just a good idea — it’s necessary. Right now, core features like strategy, pit stops, tire wear and dynamic weather are barely used in Sport Mode, even though they are some of the strongest aspects of the game.
The track situation is also frustrating. There are so many great tracks that almost never appear online. How is it possible to have so much content and not use it?
Weekly championships would finally give players a real reason to stay engaged and compete, instead of just jumping into random daily races and leaving.
And let’s be honest: matchmaking needs improvement. The skill gaps in many lobbies are too big, which hurts the experience for both faster and slower players.
Polyphony Digital already has all the tools. What’s missing is proper utilization.
The potential is huge — but right now, it’s being wasted.

I'd love to contribute to the discussion here but my chat bot refused, said it's tired of answering chat bot output.
I simply used it to make the text more organized and have good syntax. I would like to hear everyone's opinion so that those who need to change the game can see it.

Good luck with that, people have been posting on here for 15+ (?) years since Prologue trying to get those who need to change the game can 'see'.

Rule no 1 with Gran Turismo, PD gonna do what PD gonna do.. and sorting out daily races / online lobbys / races without at least 1 major issue, is not really top of their 'to do list'.

Well, unless it's about the world finals or whatever the live event stuff is, then all of a sudden everything seems 'perfect'.

Quelle surpris.. :(

There's plenty of leagues / lobbys in the sub forum here, checking that out will get you better racing alot quicker than trying to get PD to change the game, best of luck 👍

At gtsport with FIA Pd was doing great job with online races and championships but with gt7 without FIA they messed up and lost alot good players..
I have participate alot on lobby races but its not the same Pd does not exploit the potential it already has.. i dont know why … i hope with the competition of other racing games do something to get better online races.

Yes, 100% you are correct, but to be fair to PD they are consistent, they've been doing this ever since GT went online with Prologue.

You could say the same about here, so much info, so much potential, alot of good guys and some very knowledgeable people but sometimes likes and loyalty more important than all of that :( :(

Oh well, c'est la GTVie :indiff:

I say this as someone who really wants a broader online experience in GT8: They have basically zero reason to change GT7 Sport Mode at this late point.

They know they'll get 55-70k racers in a Daily C of Gr.3/4 at <standard Grade 1 circuit or fictional equivalent> for as long as the game is still current. They don't know if new people would start racing road cars or tuning races or niche circuits (but they do know the current audience will likely check out).

That's a change in format you communicate at the start of a new game, not one you gamble your safe player base on at the tail end of a game's life.
