PD has to fully embrace esports and offer a prize pool for the next level of growth in GT. Not only will this allow it to compete more against the likes of iracing, but the price would only be fair for the people who dedicate countless hours a day in training and will also motivate other others as well.

GT is the most successful racing series in history that has been held back by the lack of fully embracing esports.

They should replace the Supra with the Audi, RSR with the GT3 R and it'd be more like the real world GT3. Anyway, I understand the Manufacturer representation of it all. Just feel the real GT3 cars should be the only picks for more realism.
Besides, lots of AMGs in that shot. Like a real GT3 grid. ;)

Question is if they do offer prize money, how much would they offer?

I would also choose the Lexus RC F GT3 as an alternative, while still supporting Toyota as a partner; via, its' luxury subsidiary.

Assuming this was taking place before 1.67 and during the GTWS Final, I'm sure it would be updated to the newer spec cars the next time they decide to do this type of event again.

Even if they wanted to, there are a lot of legal complexities in some markets (most notably, Japan) regarding prizemoney and esports. You can see why this would be problematic for Sony and PD, who own the IP, run these events and foot the bill for them.

Great, can they bring the collision physics into the 21st century? I'm sure these eSports teams would just love to miss out on a big payday because their star driver gets fired into the gravel trap after getting tapped from behind under braking.

They recorded this back in December during the finals, that is why is the RSR and not the GT3 R, also I think every team made the choice of the car

Prize pools also invite a lot of cheeky tactics, cheating and petty fights between competitors, it has been nice that most gt drivers are so friendly to each other.
But i also understand that these drivers deserve compensation

What a bunch of noobs.

What is this crap?
A screenshot from the red flag period.

In essence, the players do not play on their own accounts. The LAN Mode has a bunch of placeholder accounts with their names substituted in the lobby:

These accounts don't have any profile info, so their Sport Mode status is the default DR E/SR B.

That extra underscore of #8 bothers me in so many ways.

Yeah just seems wrong in so many ways

Confused how this was a team event outside of representing a team. Was thinking/hoping this was some sort of enduro with so many drivers per team.

They were just representing their Esports teams.

As the drivers were GTWS final attendees, the available talent pool wouldn't have been big enough to find 12 teams with two or more drivers each. I can think of four or five with two and one - I think - with three.

Amusingly the winner also announced a move to a different team yesterday...

So all the same guys, again...

And why the secrecy/delay in releasing details? Did they think it could've bombed and had to be covered up and erased from history for some reason?

Hope that if this stays, it stays purely as an exhibition event.
There are far too many implications that having eSport teams directly involved present, whether that be increased demands of things like prize money or league control which just aren't going to happen realistically, external sponsorships that would need approval, potential monopolisation of the wider space by the 12 teams that are locked in, an increase in race manipulation and other controversies if money does start getting involved etc.

The Nations Cup is already bad enough with how, because of the qualification process & seedings, some countries are allowed to have more drivers than others. That's leaving the door open to race manipulation.
At the time of posting, Spain is set to make up 1/4 of the whole field with 3 drivers. Brazil & Japan would have 2 drivers each too. 8 countries on a 12 car grid.
If it was rebranded to the "Drivers Cup" that would be a bit less of an issue.

Still not a fan of how Toyota & Mazda are able to effectively buy their way to guaranteed Manufacturer Series spots either, regardless of qualifying position, but that's somehow not the biggest issue anymore.
There's also a conflict of competitive interest in terms of whether Polyphony give Toyota & Mazda some BoP assistance due to their status. They might do, or they might not, but the conflict of interest is there.

But believe it or not, overall I do enjoy the events lol. The racing itself can be pretty compelling at times.
