(Gran Turismo 7) If you were to purchase the McLaren F1 '94 currently in Hagerty's with just purchased credits, the cost is quite an eye opener.

So morbid curiosity struck me when I logged on this morning and saw that the McLaren F1 was in Hagerty's, And then the price itself struck me.
The car at this time is a staggering 18.5 million CR, up by 17.5 million CR from it's appearance in GT Sport. Now I knows cars at such prices aren't new to the series (Vintage racecars in past titles say hi), and I also know of the whole "dynamic price" feature that Hagerty's has, But I decided to go on ahead and figure out the price of this car if you were to buy it with just MTX.
So, factoring in estimated tax where I live (Local MS tax), If you were to buy the car only with purchased credits at least where I live, it will equate to a mind-blowing $203.28 USD (Again, an estimated price. Uncertain if it's slightly higher or lower.). Now, if you were to buy this same car in GT Sport with USD here, it would cost about $3.2 USD. That's a $200 mark-up from Sport.
As much as I being the millionth person to scream over the MTX in this game here (and also join in on the negativity trend on a game I have been loving), and as much as I hate that this is gonna be my first post here, I really cannot just stand there and go "just grind the game lol" and scoff at such a wild price. I love this game to death, but I absolutely hate how this game has to get stained by such awful practices.
And apparently (Don't exactly take it as hard facts), I was told that it would take you about approx. 20 hours to grind for this car normally, so if you aren't wanting to spend over 200 bucks on one single car (why would you even do that), Then I do hope you've started your grind cause these cars only stay around for like 2-4 days thanks to dealer cycles.

There will be people who bought the game for 60 - 80$/€ who will never have the chance to own cars like this in the game, beacause they either dont have the time to grind nor have the money to buy credits in the store, really sad!

Noz

Or simply don’t want to spend £200 to buy a virtual car in a game they already paid £70 for.

As I wrote on the other thread, I can't wait to witness the outrage when the 250GTO will appear at 65+ Millions cr.
Cause this is clearly the trend...
The credits cap is the classic 20 million that GT5 has set (although GT6 has 50 million and I think the GT Sport DLC extended it? Never got it soooo..) and I think I read that the store credits aren't capped? But yeah, no way any car will go over 20 million CR unless the credits cap is raised.

The pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices.

…(we also would like to link the earnings to the real world prizes even if it makes the purpose of a game where you drive the most flamboyant cars irrelevant and you need to drive about 10 cars of that very price segment you don‘t want)

What does he expect? Spend our lifetime leaving family, friends, job and freetime behind to get just one rare car?

So PD values your time at ~10 USD / hour? So if your real life job is earning you more than that, rather than take two days off to grind for this car it's more efficient to spend the cash? Ouch.

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different cars.
Oh to hell with the sense of pride(not personally meant), the last GTs were build on the foundation that you can own them without wasting time until you have children and then grandchildren. GT was never about that and now is no longer about winning/buying these cars in a short period of time

yes, I get the rarity thing, not just turning up for a few hours and getting access to everything, but seems a step or 2 too far at present.

Kaz seems to have forgotten this is a video game, and baring a few 'hardcore' players, the current setup is probably a total turn off for many.

Personally I think the argument about pride, becomes very hollow when it can just be bypassed purchasing MTX.

In my opinion the problem is, that they didn't make MTX a second currency that players should only buy cosmetic items with.

By making credits the MTX currency, it is pay to win.

GT7 the real poverty simulator ...

The timing is hilarious. We're a couple of days removed from 30 hours of downtime and a patch that reduced in game pay-outs, with all the bad press that included, and now this.

They're taking the ******* p***.

yeah, how many are in a position to actually buy that car? either via credits earnt so far or happy to dip into their wallets to shell out that money on 1 car. I mean, most wouldn;t spend that to buy all the cars, never mind just 1.

I’ll play devils advocate here… the ridiculous MTX price makes them entirely unattractive to everybody who isn’t loaded, making playing the game the only viable option even if it does take 20+ hours to obtain the requisite credits. So cars with price tags approaching 20M are meant to be a carrot for those who are gonna sink hundreds (if not thousands) of hours into the game over its lifespan, and if they happen to push Mr Moneybags to part with his cash ‘cause he gotta have his instant gratification… well sure, why not?

yes, they're definitely chancing it early doors as there will be a fair few out there who will pay for these things. no doubt enough mega rich celebs, sportsmen, businessmen who are really into cars (or their kids) who this kind of money is nothing too. may not even play for that long, but will just buy stuff willynilly rather than grind for hours, before moving onto another game.

I'd love to know what percentage of GT7 players

a.) Have 18.5m credits without MTX's
b.) Are willing to spend all of their hard earned/grinded credits on this particular car

I imagine you're talking about 1% of the 1%ers at that point.

The one positive is that this stuff might be the biggest hope for change. Polyphony will have a ton of data on who is buying what and where those credits are coming from. You'd have thought change will follow if nobody is buying an 18.5m CR McLaren.

Letter from Kaz after that long downtime:
We would really appreciate it if everyone could watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer term point of view.
My take: he want us to save the credit money or at least for now; use the money wisely. Lets take that "growth" into longer term point of view: we will take 3 years of updates; thus we will have more race options and 'grind' options. 3 years will have 1000 days and lets say you earn 20.000 credits per day by just racing like 10 minutes per day and you will earn 20.000.000 Cr. already -- does not really take your time or even needed second jobs.

3 years after release, oh finally we could afford that Mclaren F1! (assuming hagerty value stays the same or similar)

We worrying so much because in our mindset we wanted that mclaren f1 like right now or not too far away.

Even if you can buy one, who you gonna race it with? None of your friends or hardly anyone else will have one either. GT7 is making iRacing look like a bargain at this point. 😂
