Hello racers all over the world!

I have been wondering if anyone here has some "OCD" when it comes to Gran Turismo. Reason I ask is that personally I have a special bond with Excel and statistics, and utilize every opportunity to mess around with it! This includes work, personal financials, hobbies, games, sports and in this case, Gran Turismo.

Starting with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, I began a tradition to run hot laps with all my cars, stock setup, and compiled the laptimes in a sortable lap chart, filled with all general info on the car (power, torque, drivetrain etc). I continued this in Gran Turismo 5 and 6, and plan to do the same in Sport, although I haven´t started it yet.

I have, however, started a sortable chart on my Sport Mode progress. It's a very small chart so far, as I've only done 3 races so far (focusing on Campaign content at the moment), but I plan on filling in a new entry after every Sport race and in a way keep a log of every single race. I also save the replay of every race and then record it with the PS4's Share function, and export it to my PC via flashdrive. I might even hyperlink the chart and link each entry with the corresponding replay if I wanna take a look at the tape :D

This is what I've got so far after the first 3 races:

DR: Driver Rating
SR: Sportmanship Rating
QF: Qualifying Position
RR: Race Results
Diff.: Difference from Qualifying position and race results

This is all sortable, so in the future when I have loads of races under my belt, I can look through and for example have the chart display only my Gr.4 Races, or only Daily races, or all my races at a particular track, and so on.

I'd love some input. Is there any info missing that I should include? Should I include more car info? As in power, weight and that sort of info?

Also, share your own Gran Turismo obsessions, make me feel a bit more normal :D

I seem to be creating car lists for nearly all of my racing games. ;) This is the GT:Sport version and a bit more personalized than my usual car lists.

Keeping track of what I have in my garage :
* White text = I don't own the car yet
* Red text = DLC car, cannot remove from garage
* Pink text = gift car, can remove from garage if wanted
* Black background = Car upgrades fully unlocked with mileage points

Obsessed with stats of all kind all my life, numbers and math was my fav during my school times. I'm counting almost everything, trying to do sheets of stats like you guys, yet didn't finished any of them due to various reasons, mostly time.

In GT series I was missing lap sector times the most, even there was solution to save replay and watch it get the split time (and then let the eXcel count it down to sector time), there were sector times in GT6 data analyzer, but only to one decimal, but finally in GT Sport we have the sector times and another useful info about our laps. ^^

Unfortunately i cannot find any of my eXcel works right now, but once i find it i'll share it with you guys ^^

Whoa, that is detailed, great work! :). I like the color coding!

Well I used to make these after every race in a GT6 club. I guess it has to be OCD when you
include Fahrenheit degrees down to the tenths of a degree. I like numbers and stats just the same as you. :dopey:

Nice! This is quite detailed. I like the touch of having a picture of the car that set the fastest lap :D.

Be sure to share with us :). Happy to see some more Excelfreaks in the wild :D

I'm a lover of excel but man this is geektastic! Sigh if only I had the time in life....2 kids full time job sucks!

I feel ya Buddy! Same boat, love the stats but just don't have that much time on my hands, kids/wife/job/life. So I just end up trawling the stats I can get out of the game....

I'm in a similar boat, with wife and a kid. However me and the wife sometimes work opposing hours and my kid is with us every other week so some evenings after work I can squeeze in some racing and/or spreadsheeting :D

Decided to do another Kyoto daily tonight, and was quite happy with the results. Managed to improve my Qualifying time and got my first pole position. Followed it up with a secure win, won by 11 second and got the 50% clean race bonus. Even lapped some dude in a SLS on the last lap. Not a bad first race repping Mazda (just signed the contract :D).

Anyway, logged it into my chart, and made some revisions.

Decided to include a hyperlink to my replays and "live" recordings, if it applies. I like to start a videoclip using the PS4's Share feature, and record the race as I drive. Then I also record the replay with the cinematic view.

I also added the Fastest Lap (FL) column, and conditional formatting on the Qualifying (QF) and Race Results (RR) columns, so it colors the fields automaticly depending on my position, if I get a top 3 position (gold, silver, bronze).

I think I'm happy with this setup and don't think I'll make any more changes to the format ..... for now :D

I hear you loud and clear.

I started with GT5 Prologue building an XLS which tracked all events, results and cars used ...

Then started doing hotlaps for all cars creating leaderboards in XLS.

Then added the variant of a 1 lap race on each track tracking place etc, all managed in XLS.

As for GTSport, I did start a tiny XLS, but found it too time consuming and now have more kids. However, I am happy with the arcade mode time trial leaderboard system available; so no longer need to manage that in an XLS... unless of course I want to capture additional data.

Cheers

I used to plan on making a little project of tracking the replay cameras of GT as I was able to sense a pattern with the camera work and the styles used. I planned to upload videos of races and upload edited images of the circuit route that detail the flying dynamic camera shots, for people who love them and people who wish to avoid them since there's somehow a split opinion about that GTP. I didn't do that when I still actively played GT6, and starting in GTS the replay camera styles are totally different now, so maybe I'll get to working on that again.

However there was something else I did.

I was curious what may possibly cause licensing situations like the inability to add custom parts and disappearing/reluctant manufacturers. I eventually learned that all those differences can be loosely identified in the intellectual property notes that are always displayed in certain locations as part of the game's credits. So I was interested in Gran Turismo Sport's IP notes and listed down all the participating auto manufacturers in the listing. I'm personally mad at myself for putting effort into this document when that productivity could have been used for RL work, but I think my work is valued to other people out there.

I would have gotten another text box listing my references for the copyright definitions. The IP notice in GT Sport covered so much about what was involved in the game and how was it licensed like, including the sponsors found in brand logo decals, the soundtrack's participating record labels and publishers, and software used to develop the game, including the usage of a third-party vegetation modeling software SpeedTree. There could be more uncovered from this, but I'll just rest my case here. If there is anything inconsistent, then it's clearly my fault cause I have nothing concrete to really back up my knowledge about copywriting. I had used an American elementary school website to learn about licensing and I'm frankly surprised this is a youth subject in the U.S. curriculum.

Thanks! And under the moto that a list is never complete, I added a new color. Orange for the cars bought with mileage points. ;) Also added a column for tyre type since I want to keep track on which tyres the cars came stock.

Just curious, are any of you ocd guys musicians? I ask because that is the type of mentality I have found in many of my musician friends. Meticulous attention to detail and obsessing over the little things. Also just like doing lap times, the ability/desire to do the same thing over and over again striving for perfection is a musical attribute.

Whoa! That is some serious detective work, well done! :).

Ahh, nice touch! :P.

Well I'll be damned, I'm actually a guitarist! :). And when you mention it, the obsession with hot lapping, perfecting that one track, does kinda feel the same in principle as for example mastering that one solo, or that specific song.

Cool observation! :)

Not a musician, but am a drummer :)

Not a musician here, but obsessed with universe, where you use all kinds of measurements aswell, to get an idea of the space we live in. ^^

I'm a social dancer IRL (salsa, bachata, kizomba) and I got a great feeling for rhythm, music has been the big thing in all my life. Had a few single occasions where I DJ'ed as well.

Does that count? :)

I think the same principles apply here, you're in! :D

Jesus! That’s OCD indeed! Lol

Mine, is to buy every car and gold everything.

I’m also planning on build a chart with hotlaps times (for every car) in a certain track. Just can’t think of what track for now.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep working on the car shopping and getting gold for all the campaign stuff

I'm with you on the gold stuff. Driving school done, around 60% done with missions and IIRC 4 tracks done in circuit experience. No chart for that though ...yet! :D

Gold here any campain except last three races in 8th stage - 2x silver and 1x bronze from Interlagos - seems impossible for me to gold it as of driving with DS4, lately hanging up with motion-controlling and getting used to it slowly.

Meanwhile had a look at the TT section of arcade mode and the results tab - divided by any group looks really nice, anyway - my point will be to get lap times and sector times to sheet too, so will do the excel work instead.

BTW guys, did you ever measured tracks, circuits and roads in GT with the Odometer? :D sounds weird, but i wanted to get avg speeds for each sector, not only for the entire lap. ^^:O

I found another one, didn't remember I made one of these for a full lobby.

Wonder if those circular maps in replays data section are proportional by length of the track. Need to look at it closer to see if this can be the way to get roughly proper distances of each sector of a track ^^

Btw, starting to work on the data sheets template, thus doing some research. ^^ and i think that circular map will be much helpful.

Ups, edit: will post my progress in a day or two

Be sure to post your findings here !

Ummm...spent 3 hours last night finishing a 6 minute track by editing the placement of very single kick/snare/hi-hat/bass guitar hit/note to make sure they fitted the 'feel' of the song. 1 bass guitar slide was a little fast so I stretched that out too. That stuff will haunt you a lifetime!
:banghead:

Finally managed to finish this "sector length thing" today. Made custom angular ruller in Adobe Illustrator to measure to measure angles on screenshots from that analyzer circular map page. Then all i needed to do was to make equation to calculate length of sector by given length of a full circuit and angle, which does that sector point have on the circular map. This are my results:

Screenshot_20171107-230107.png

Keep in mind that the longer the track is the less precise the calculation is, but we dont need to cry about few meters plus or minus. :D

You can see that some tracks with reverse layout have the same values in both versions, while some other dont. These i think have variable start/finish line, for example - Dragon Trail track has the line in middle of the straight, but the reverse has it in front of the first turn

PS: all values are in km.

Edit: i forgot to mention that Nurb 24h had different values so in this case i decided to take values from nordschleife and gp layouts, which are the same - 2 and 3 from gp and 1 to 11 from green hell. Those 3 other i just slightly altered to match the length provided by game.

PS2: oh boy i'm so happy for this circular map in the game. :D this is exactly what i needed all the time. Anyway, wish there was a MoTEC implementation again with this game. ^^
