UPDATE (Sep 24): Three clean USA ISO variants now have matching patches. If the first patch rejected your game, choose your ISO here and it will give you the right one. The check happens on your device. European support is planned for the full release after beta.

Watch the trailer (56 sec):

Hey all,

We've been building Gran Turismo PSP Career, the career mode we always wanted in the game, and the first public beta is finally out. It runs inside the game with its own save and progression, and all the original modes are still there.

The beta has 163 events across nine halls, with championships, licence tests gating progress, prize cars and 18 endurance races. There's also a parts shop for engine, tyres and suspension, and the upgrades actually change how the car drives, not just the numbers on the stats screen.

And the lost tracks actually work now. Hong Kong, Rome Circuit, Complex String and Smokey Mountain used to crash on real hardware. We've now finished full races on all four on a PSP Go, and Tahiti Dirt runs there too. They're in the career as two Lost Circuits cups.

It's a beta, so expect rough edges:

  • nobody has finished a full 24h endurance race on it yet
  • Complex String and Smokey Mountain have visual glitches
  • AI balance still needs work

If you're on a 1000, 2000, 3000 or Street, we'd especially love to hear how it runs.

Download: Public beta 0.27.2-beta.1
Install guide: Step by step

You'll need your own clean USA ISO. The patch selector finds the right .xdelta. The download is a patch, not the game itself. Apply it with Delta Patcher (free, Windows and macOS). Full notes and credits are on the release page, including TheAdmiester’s event data and the tools we used.

Give it a spin and tell us your PSP model and what broke. Reply here or open an issue on GitHub.

Hopefully this can work on phones. Maybe if this catches on some people will play online with the tuned cars. It would be cool to see lobbies with restrictions like horsepower weight drivetrain and country. To have modern tuning mixed with the classic tracks online would be awesome!

It works on iPhone — I tested it. In principle it should work anywhere PPSSPP can run the original GT PSP, so give the beta a try and let us know how it goes. The install guide in the first post is pretty painless.

We'd love to do online racing with tuned cars if there's enough community support to keep servers running. Lobbies with restrictions like power, weight, drivetrain and country are doable; keeping the online service going is the bigger commitment.

UPDATE: The beta now supports three clean USA Gran Turismo PSP ISO variants: UMD v1.00, UMD v2.00, and the image used for the first patch. If your game was rejected before, use the patch selector to find the right download. Your ISO stays on your device. European support is planned for the full release after beta.

Great work @Memetrix I'll probably give this a go at the weekend if I get chance.

Finally got a trailer together. It's under a minute, with the career, tuning, endurance and lost tracks in motion. The beta's live now; download and install links are in the first post.

This looks incredible! I knew GT PSP modding is fairly new, but I didn't think I would see an entire career mode made for it. Wished it would work on the actual consoles, I love playing GT on my Vita during trips.

It works on real hardware. I tested it on my PSP Go, including full races on the restored tracks. A player on Reddit also tested the beta on a Vita through Adrenaline 6.61 and reported it working.

Incredibly amazing!! I'm definitely gonna play it! Please don't add penalties or mechanical damage... or maybe, if you do, please make it optional.

While a GT PSP Career mode mod is something I have had on my bucket list since it originally released in 2009, Not having a matching UI with the rest of the original game is a deal-breaker for me, so I will ultimately pass on it. If it all had white text on dark background, I would snap this up in a heartbeat, AI slopped or not.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This UI is how I pictured the career, but I get why you'd prefer the original game's look.

Thanks, Dave! Let me know how it goes if you get to try it.
Could you add some new cars or, if possible, bring back the wheel customization system from Gran Turismo 3? That would be great! I'm from Brazil and I told my friends, and they couldn't believe it.

Don't get me wrong, clearly a lot of work put into this. Well, nobody else has done it before. It is a great piece of work overall. I just have a habit of "dark moding" everything. Light themes are no good for OLED screens.
