What would you think if a group of players of gt5/gt6 started their own car companies?.
Do you think a group of enthusiasts could pull something like this off?
If the tech that they develop were proven would you buy a car made by them.please share your thoughts

So much I can't even.

If a group of people can somehow start a business that creates enough sales to allow for its expansion and continued development by designing, testing, and constructing cars, (Not to mention safety and emissions.) then they can go right ahead.

It has no bearing on whether they play GT or not...

Not unless they had specific car design and building skills and a HUGE amount of start up capital.

Playing GT hardly qualifies you to build decent cars!

If some GTP members are to be believed, we've as good as developed half the cars on today's roads anyway: They're all slow-ass Commie cars with needlessly nice interiors and pointlessly advanced and reliable engines. Blame GTP for all those ones.

Alternative answer: I wouldn't touch the resulting car with someone else's.

Well start up money is a factor but you assume that anyone who plays this game hasn't worked on cars ever in their life.americans can build decent cars, look at tucker back in the 40's and 50's.amc in the 60's and 70's.innovation and invention is not dead in the internal combustion engine and in america.by the way home,I don't think their cars would nessicarily be slow.since a car made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts would be quick and competetive and fun to drive.u also assume that no one who plays this game has a understanding of engineering too.just remember what happens when you assume

It's not enough to be an enthusiast to build a 'competitive' car. Whether that competition is on the track or with Tata Nano. 10 or-so people with engineering degrees among the regulars on the forum from 10 or-so different places of the world isn't enough to start a production of a car. Unless Kaz is willing to donate all his profit for GTP to build a car, I doubt anything like that would ever happen. Also having in mind that there is no possibility of consensus among the members on what kind of car it should be.

Well what I mean is that the group of the gt players whether they have kaz's influence or blessing or not build their cars in their own vision of what a car should be.I would think a car made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts would be a bit self explanitory.also even if the car exceeded saftey and emission standards if you could get better milage than a prius and blow the doors off of a gtr what would put you off from buying such a vechile?

The fact that it wouldn't exist.

If massive automotive groups with billions of dollars and some of the world's finest automotive engineers, can't make a super-safe, super-economic, GT-R beating car (at least one that's affordable) then a group of clever GT players probably can't.

Let me ask you a question e28.so you are saying that a hot rodder can't build something to beat a gtr?.I've worked on cars and I have worked on engines.I can guarentee that I personally can build a gtr beater that's diesel powered for the same price as a ams alpha 12.also look at the corvette zr1 and porsche 918 around the nurburgring

I'm sure there are car designers and engineers who play GT, so yes, if they all got together they would probably be able to design something. But the World isn't the same place as it was 50, 60 years ago, and getting it built is another matter entirely. There are many more regulations (e.g. safety & emissions), and you would still need a huge amount in capital investment to get something to production.

And the World is littered with bankrupt small car manufacturers (Fisker being the most recent example), as well as a volume manufacturers too (e.g. Saab). There are a few successful independents (e.g. Pagani, Caterham, Atom), but these tend to be building for a specialist market. There are none, as far as I can remember, building anything for the mass market. One of the best engineers in motoring (Gordon Murray) has even struggled to get someone to build his city car project.

So could a group of properly qualified people build a car? Yes, of course it's possible. But what does GT have to do with this other than the coincidence of qualified people playing the game?
