Hello, GT Planet.

"GT fans, we are about to get ready for the classic Grand Valley 300km, we're glad you can join us. (your name/codename here) looks to be the big favorite in this race with his/her machine, this BEAUTIFUL Pagani Zonda race car. Did well in Qualifying, placing 2nd, but is willing to climb through the pack. His/her parents are watching this race and are cheering on their son/daughter to win this endurance.

"Well, the race is about to get underway, pace car is in, rolling start, and HERE WE GO!!!"

Maybe you can't put Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, or Leigh Diffey into GT4, but can you imagine a makeshift TV broadcast of the race to come? Someone mentioned that a TV mode was possible, but dropped. In this topic, I'm not asking if it is possible to do this, but this is a case of "if this option was implemented, what would have to be done to make this mode exciting?" In this case, I'll start.

GTTV. It would be interesting to see a television mode. Maybe if you are previewing a race event, a TV mode would make things more realistic, like you're actually WATCHING a race on TV rather than watching a video of a race. You know, like when you go to a new college, and this dorky video shows you what's in store? For example, and I'll use the school I hope to be in by this fall: "The University of Houston is nestled in a world-class city that slowly gets better and better. We have a million-dollar (maybe more) library with all sorts of resources available to students. We also have Division 1-A Football in Conference USA for our student athletes. Go Coogs..." ...well, you know where I'm going with this.

Anyhow, I picture a sweet TV mode for GT4. It makes watching races more entertaining. Who knows? Maybe it can make like "NASCAR on FOX" (or for stock car haters, "NASCrap on FOX") and come up with "Crank it Up," so you can hear the GT500 Supra roar down Fuji. Maybe there can be little specials on certain cars in the game. They don't need to be hancy, PD can just show a car from certain angles and flash stats. Then there can be some test runs on Complex String or some specialized test track. They can also take (street and tuner cars only) the cars on the street to put it into busy city life. All the while, you hear the sound of the car, all of the environment reflect off of the car, and just make it look like you're watching Speed Channel rather than playing a PS2 game. Maybe you can watch a race on GTTV to get exposure to other race cars and to get a feel for other race cars in the game.

Gran Turismo TV. Tune in today! So what are your ideas for a TV mode for GT, if PD came up with one?
 
A Tv mode would be good, or a story mode like V8 supercar race driver or tony hawk's underground but with commentators talking at the start of the race telling you about the track, driver's and how the series has been.
 
Presumably the commentators would be Japanese....? :D Now THAT would be interesting!
 
You'll get it in just 2-3 years when PS3 comes out together with new GT game.

It'll probablly be called GT Network and you'll be able to race the official world champiosnhip there, as well as watch races via broadband in specatator mode.

They are thinking about it for 5 years as I know, and probablly for an decade as they know, especially Yamauchi.
 
What are you talking about? GT4 is coming out this year!
 
Well, there was always the "Broadcast" option when you i.LINKed GT3. I always provided some cheesy makeshift commentary at the GranTurismo.com Forum parties I attended during broadcast races. :) GT4 is also expected to include some sort of 'photography' or 'showcase' mode... you'll be able to put your car into a certain backdrop, choose the angle, and... well, we're not sure what happens after that. That's all that the community can really derive from the short video sequence of that mode (as exhibited in the huge and long Gamespot trailer with the purple 350Z being virtually photographed in a field of grass).

The GT Network project was folded into the GT4 development phase, by the way. GTN is no longer a standalone entity or game in the works. GT4 will be networked (in the online play sense), and GT5 will debut on the PS3 (logically, with the same networking capabilities).

By the way, the Coog film might be cheesy, but the experience goes way beyond anything they could possibly show you on TV... especially if you live on campus. I'm not one for school spirit at all, but this truly is a great university in one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the continent. :)
 
GT Network, huh? Interesting.

A game that featured about three different languages was "Test Drive Le Mans" for Playstation 1. This game may not be Gran Turismo, but the game is... well, it isn't totally disappointing. Anyhow, you could choose English, Spanish, or French (Japanese? Sorry folks). Maybe a worldwide cast can join you in races. You know, have an Japanese announcer speaking English (and I'm talking about those of us who know English better than any other language), then maybe some English person for analysis. Or you can have a Spanish announcer that can REALLY make a race exciting (no offense to English announcers). After all, Spanish announcers make futbol games VERY exciting. Just like when a team scores a "gol", they'll be like:

"Gol! Gol! Colosso, colosso! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!!!"

Gotta love it, folks ;-). I still think that when it comes to commentary, "NCAA Football 2004" has impressive commentary from Brad Nessler, Kirk Herbstreit, and Lee Corso. Almost every play in the game is called as if it were on TV. Sometimes, I don't even play the game; I sometimes just put together a match and let the three commentators go at it. Like when I played the game for the Administaff Bayou Bucket (Houston Cougars vs. Rice Owls), I heard great commentary. While "NCAA Football 2004" is not a racing game, it shows what professional-style commentary is like.

Then during the commercial breaks in GT Network, you can see unique views of the track or the environment you're in. There can also be views of the screaming fans, or a beautiful race queen walking the paddocks. Any more ideas or suggestions for this in-game mode possibility?
 
lol, funny idea, but would take too much time and effort away from the game, I just hope they dont have snoop dogg soundtrack again
 
I dont think thst thsi is a good idea...i wouldnt like this.
 
Hey John maybe the opening seen before the race if ur previewing a race,or just starting, could start up like in ssx tricky where they show an overview of the track and some known info and then maybe have drivers names , im sure it wouldnt be hard, they have more people working on the game then cars.

Well, I am not so sure about this, since I am kind of confused. There is probably no way, no mattter how much I like this series, that there will be aTV by it, like no other games will, no offence.
 
The announcer deal, especially with the Spanish announcer thing, it is more of seasoning to GT4. So, don't expect any showy stuff to deter attention from racing.

By the way, SSX isn't my thing, so I cannot comment.
 
(By the way, keep in mind. This isn't speculation of a GT TV Network, just commenting on such a mode would be like. This is different of a normal post from what I'd normally post.)
 
Hmm this idea depends on how many bits of commentry could be put in the game. I remember the F1 games by EA sports the commentator would say the same damn comments over n over n over n... er you get the point. The fifa football games(also by EA) were the same. Knowing the amount people round here play GT:D the games designers would have there work cut out making it varied and realistic, anyho thats just my opinion.:)
 
Personally the only real way I could see this wroking is if they really had the GTTV for big championship races like GT world championship or the Polyphony F1 race thingy or endurance races. I think it would be good then. And only say at the beginning or end of a race. At the beginning they could like review each car and say a made up driver for that car and then maybe review you (without giving any names in the review, and it could say take information from your stats. Like it could give the odds to you winning from your win ratio etc.). Then it could give like a guided tour of the circuit or something in another car with commentary on each part of the track (skippable) and then let you qualify. It could then give you a brief review of the qualifying session and then let the reace commence. At the end, it could maybe go through the finishing order with times etc and stats, and maybe go through highlights (I don't know if the computer could take notes and record moments of say when you are running close to another car or when you loose control or something :confused: ). Then an award ceremony at the end. Well that's what I'd like to see anyway :).
 
Commentary? GTTV? If there was a broadcast option in the online racing, someone watching the race with a mic might be able add commentary for eveyone. That would be kinda cool.
 
I was just thinking. Someone mentioned it, but maybe the championship races can get some commentary. In terms of the GT World Championship and endurances, things can be jazzed up. In this sense, it is like comparing "NCAA Football 2004" and "Madden NFL 2004" in terms of presentation. Now, I don't have the Madden game, but by judging by presentation graphics, Madden' 04's graphics are that snazzy because the NFL is so much more popular and devoted than college football.

So how would an endurance presentation go? Well, here is a would-be transcript:

"Hello everyone, and welcome to (GT Track here)! It is a beautiful night here at this course, and the fans couldn't be any more psyched up to see this race get underway. I'm (Announcer 1) and my partners (Announcer 2) and (Announcer 3). (Announcer 2), take us around this course..."

Well, that's a small sample. Then the course layout would show, technical racing tips and colorful commentary would do. Now it should be entertaining as well. For example:

I think Bob Varsha of the Speed Channel is one of the most intelligent and entertaining commentators for races. Tommy Kendall has casual charm on the TV, but is quite talented considering he's a 4-time Trans-Am Champ. Leigh Diffey is pretty good as well. Despite his loyalty of racing, Darrell Waltrip is highly entertaining. So in essence, the combination would be Host, Analyst (technical), and Analyst (technical and entertaining).
 
If you're picking commentators, then the main man you want to do it is the legend himself, Murray Walker. A bit of a pre race intro from him would make me buy the game just for that ;).
 
Something else I thought of for a TV mode... you can be able to look at special "shows" that teach you about basic GT elements. For example:

Stop and go
Suspension School
Playing with Transmissions
How to Tackle the Corkscrew (Laguna Seca)

If you can't have TV, at least have some sort of media giving GT racers a chance to learn how to properly tune their cars to perfection.
 
can't you do it yourself then.....i'm having no trouble at all, tuning my car and finding the ideal line for the corkscrew @ Laguna Seca. It's all about knowlede and experience my friend. 👍

But the idea of some kind of " tv-mode" could be interesting though :cool:

they could have a 'walk the track' part before everyrace to show some of the hot spots (like ITV's coverage of F1) and you could have a list of comments shortlisted to certain buttons.
 
Is that not already in GT4:Prologue during the School Mode and each test has a rundown in Chinese showing you what to do fro the individual tasks.

I design these forums in speculation and in order to look at possibilities and special considerations. Times before, I said that I don't work for PD, so I'd rather give out ideas rather than speculate.

What would be cool is if race previews were like TV shows and you could look at interesting pictures of the track. Maybe for Fuji, you could see the beautiful Mt. Fuji, or you can see some children waving flags of Japan or some race team. Maybe for Tokyo, you can look at Tokyo Tower (which some confuse for the Eiffel Tower). Maybe for Citta D'... that track, you can have a parking lot full of vintage rally cars. New York, why not? Lady Liberty or the Empire State Building. Making modes more interesting even if you're not in the mood to race.
