I was in the Porsche. Just had enough time to practice a few laps and then hop in. My hopes were not high, but I was interested to see what the weather would bring.

Sun. Sun and more sun.

Qualified 4th. Made a few dumb mistakes (which comes from not practicing) and ended up 7th after being passed on the backstretch after I could not get around 5th. Oh well, that's it for me! Good for 173 points. Also having a midnight start EST is crazy!

two hours later 2.jpg

I jump in the 8pm est slot and have door #4. Qualifying is bad as I stink in the GP Circuit and ran into some slower cars. I don't stress about it and start P9 on the grid. Full sunshine and minimal clouds for that.

As for the race, no rain. It was sunny with some clouds moving in and out that looked cool during the race. Not much happened in the race that was noteworthy. Some door-banging but nothing too bad. I get stuck behind a line of cars but that's the normal operating procedure and can't get by clean. I then follow a Ferrari and a Lambo fighting hard on lap 2 and I get by after an opportunity arose and I get some distance. After a leader spins, I find myself in P4 with some gap back to P5. I pit at the end of lap 3 and don't change tires and be on my way. On the final lap, the Lambo that I was chasing earlier gets by me after I have a brown pants moment on the entry and first section of the Nordschleife proper. I was going to let them by as they were rapid. Anyway, I have a 10 second lead over P6 and make a nice and easy final lap. I get 59 points for my effort with 70 to the winner.

Overall, a great start for me even with the low point pool. I wanted some clean racing and I got it surprising with the current state of sport mode races. An enjoyable round for me.

GT1 Americas, 10pm slot, aaaaand we're all staring at a black screen chatting with each other...

Great.

Edit: 10:50, still waiting. People are dropping out, DR penalty be damned. 10 of us are left...

Edit2: 11:10, 8 left. No change whatsoever. I'm giving it a few more minutes, then I'm quitting.

Edit3: 11:15, I threw in the towel. Gonna try the 12am slot, and hope for the best.

Edit4: Decided to restart my console, just in case. Noticed a system update had been pushed. Might that have been the cause? Regardless, at least the Daily Workout took pity on me, and gave me 500k credits...

We need to talk about PD's slot programming. In Asia/Oceania GT1, these are the slots according to local times;

New Zealand: Midnight, 2am 4am
Australia East Coast (Most of): 10pm, Midnight, 2am
Central Indonesia:9pm, 11pm, 1am
Japan, Sth Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Eastern Indonesia, Philippines: 8pm, 10pm, Midnight
China, Hong Kong, Western Indonesia, Western Australia: 7pm, 9pm, 11pm
Vietnam, Thailand: 6pm, 8pm, 10pm

I had originally assumed there was a Japanese bias in scheduling, but this shows that even their slots make no sense.

So who on earth thinks the last slot makes any sense in a region with a 6 hour time difference, and how is it remotely fair to ask New Zealanders to do their FIRST race between midnight and 1:30am IN THEIR OWN REGION, ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT/THURSDAY MORNING?

(Sorry to the Queenslanders, South Australians, Northern Territorians and other small Nations I have excluded.)

Well that was disappointing. Slot 1, started wet. Half the field didn't notice. I was running in the front pack for the first 3 laps, with the track still wet, and it looked like there would be enough rain to keep it wet until the end. So I pitted on lap 3, hoping to use the water-clearing effect to get a boost up. But inexplicably I didn't change my tires... The rain slowed up, and by the end of lap 4 my inters were completely cooked. I had to pit, again, and I rolled the dice and put on some dries. That didn't work, either, it was still too wet, although the field was so spread out I lost no places. 6th which could have been a top 3 at least.

slot 2, completely dry. I was with the Genesis X, which felt OK, but I never have pace at Nords in the dry. 10th and it couldn't have been much better.

slot 3, errored and DC'd during qualifying again. Thanks, Sony! (my PS4 will just randomly disconnect from the Internet for a minute sometimes).

0 points. Great start!

Thanks to PD's "brilliant" time slots i didn't had time to take pictures or even watch the replay. So i have to remember what happend (which is not easy in my age! :sly: )

GT2 | 117 pts | 7pm Germany | 911 RSR

The qualy was all sunny. I did my fasted lap with the new BoP so far 8:10.8 > P5

After that is was so happy about my time and the weather, that i forgot to check the weather for the race!
In the grid i saw clouds everythere and a dark blue spot approaching the track. Of course i was on RH and now praying that i'll make it one time round until the rain hits the track!
While each car is shown on the grid, the pole setter suddenly disapears! (dissconnecteted? I don't know)

The start went ok. But the BMW in front of me had a bad exit out of the AMG Arena and i went on his right side to get him on the brakes at the next right hander. But i didn't had to, because the guy behind me completly forgot to break and rammed the BMW off the track.
So i was in P3. The 2 leaders where a bit faster than me, but the gap behind me also grew.
At the Döttinger Höhe i checked the weather again and it was clear that heavy rain will hit the track. So i pitted for IM. To my big surprise i was the only one until P8 who made that move!

As expected i saw all the guys who didn't pit shortly after the rain had hit the Nordschleife. Suddenly i was in the lead.
But not for long. Lap 3 at the exit of the left hander, where the GP track hits the Nordschleife, i lost the back and spun. Down to P2.

Then the rain became stronger. The water gauge went above the 2nd level. It was realy slippery on the IM. I made some minor mistakes which cost me 2 positions.

During lap 4 i saw the rain will stop and i thought "in case the guys in front of me don't pit for RH, i will do". They didn't and i went to get RH.
Which was a mistake! A big one! The dry track was so narrow, for the 1st half of the lap there was now way of pushing. Left and right of the dry band it was still soaking wet. I left the pits on P8 and only could get one position back.

P7 at the end with 88 points. Not too bad, but there was definitly more to get!

On the final result board i saw 5 guys with a DNF. My first thought was they quitted, but reading your comments i think it's more likely they lost connection. If that's the case, PD has to take action to make shure that this is not reapeating the other races!

GT1 Americas | 12am | 187 pts | Door #1

Ended up going with the '18 Ford GTLM. Looks like the car has good top end speed, but is a lot stickier in the corners than the Viper.

Ruined my hotlap by going off at Fuchsröhre (and I'd already done it on my abortive previous attempt!) and collecting damage, ended up qualifying P9. Disappointing, because if not for that off, I could have ended up quite a bit further up. Oh well, hopefully there's some rain to shake things up.

Race time: Good news! The race didn't black screen like last time! Aaand that's pretty much where the good news ended. Just like the Exhibition round, my round was bone dry. Unlike the Exhibition round, this race was a bit of a disaster. I was able to get past the Vantage GT3 in 8th, and keep up with the pack going into the Flugplatz. Unfortunately, I went wide, picked up damage, and ended up accidentally blocking a Mazda while rejoining and got rammed from behind, picking up damage from that. This, of course let the Aston back through, and left me scrambling to make the time back up. This turned out to be easier than expected. You know how I said the Ford has good top end speed. Well, the Aston just doesn't. Nor did the NSX in 7th he was battling with, which let me scooch up to them down the Döttinger-Höhe. And then I threw it away again, and tried to go around the outside of the Aston into Tiergarten. I dipped my left wheels into the dirt, lost it, and got reset for my trouble. This not only let the Aston get away, again, but let the Corvette in 10th through as well.

Lap 2: Got past the Corvette in the Warsteiner kurve, and set off after the Aston yet again. Otherwise, an uneventful lap.

Lap 3: Going into Metzgesfeld, the Lambo that had been running 6th (henceforth referred to as Lambo #1) lost it and crashed. The Aston got past; I, unfortunately, did not before they de-ghosted. While I was able to sneak past on the run out of Bergwerk, followed by Lambo #1 losing it through Mutkurve, this let that damned Aston pull some distance on me. If not for having to battle the Lambo, I might have gotten past him on the straight.

Lap 4: Everyone chose to pit at this point. Lambo #1 and I chose to change our tires, the Aston did not. I was struggling with the cool tires, which let Lambo #1 through, and allowed Lambo #2 to catch up, because I needed a car breathing down my neck. Going through Pflazgarten, Lambo #1 went wide, allowing me past. Lambo #2, however, was right on my rear bumper, all the way into...

Lap 5: Early on, I made a costly mistake, and cut the chicane on the GP circuit, earning myself a half-second penalty. However, the Aston was starting to struggle on their old tires, which allowed me to catch up going into the Nordschleife. On top of that, Lambo #2 lost it through Hatzenbach, getting them off my back. Things looked to be turning around a bit. I was able to slipstream past the Aston going into Schwedenkreuz. Finally past them, it was all a matter of building a gap before I had to serve my penalty, but that's easy. A bunch of long straights, and the Astons wearing tires versus my fresher ones, this should be a cakewalk!

So, of course, I went into the gravel at Aremberg, the very next corner. And let the Aston past. And Lambo #1.

I, like any racer, handled this with quiet dignity and grace.

Welp, back to hunting them down. Yet again. Now it was a matter of keeping Lambo #2 behind, and catching up to the Aston and Lambo #1, and hope the two of them came together. At this point, though, I was starting to resign myself to a tenth place finish. I still had that penalty to serve, which would undo any progress I'd make, and let Lambo #2 motor past. But, it's not over 'til it's over.

Going through the final stretch, I at least was able to keep Lambo #2 behind post-penalty serving, but the Aston and Lambo #1 were just too far to mount a last gasp challenge.

And then Lambo #1 went off at Tiergarten, and the Aston had to check up to avoid them. Suddenly, 7th seemed on the cards. This is my shot!

Nope. Lambo #1 got back on track ahead of me, and I got boxed in by the Aston, so I had no choice but to slow down to avoid ramming them. I ended up finishing 9th for 125 points. Great.

That's insane. PD have no respect for 9 to 5ers

It's not the start I wanted but at least I got to race. In short, racing when sick takes some of the fun out of it. On the other hand, I got to stay home for work today.
One AM replay and all of my PM shenanigans are on YouTube for your enjoyment. Happy Hamster hunting! (2:22.00 & the last 25 mins)

Honestly I don't know from where to start...

First attempt at 19:00. Qualify Dry, Race Dry, Qualified 4, I was third and close to be 2nd.. at lap 4/5 disconnected... thanks!

Second attempt at 21:00. Qualify Dry, Race Dry, Qualified 11 after a huge mistake. At T1 punched so P14, getting nervous I did some mistakes and after a while punched again and so I retired...

Third and last at 22:00. Qualify Dry, Race Dry, Qualified 9 Finish at 7. ...but not so easy how it looks like...

What I want to highlight is that I found the Ford very far from what I was used to drive before.
I have read about the changes in the BoP... but honestly for me it is changed a lot the dynamic of the car... completely.
I found an incredible understeer and some time also oversteer.
I was used to have TC 2 but I had to stay at minimum at 3 and controlling a lot the accelerator.
Breaking was poor, so i was forced to put ABS to standard instead of weak.

I don't know what to think.
I hope that the compound RH and probably the cold temperature could have played a big role.
I don't know if closing the partnership with Michelin the PD had to change the tires performance... it seems to me really strange, I imagine that those are commercial / marketing agreements more than technical...

After the race, just to relax, I tried at Le mans to grind some credits... used RH and lowered to 700pp.
The behavior is changed, also in such track I noticed some unexpected understeer and in general not so fluid as before...

I am driving with T300RS, so no issue on FFB.
Here the problem is not the reduction of BoP, but the full driving dynamic.

I hope that with a different tire compound and higher temperature the things will change... otherwise this GTWS will be painful...

Ps.
Having the race quite late in the day is not the best... even more if you are not young anymore...

There is a hotfix patch out to hopefully solve the wheel issues. A real shame they couldn’t get it out in time for round 1, but still speedier than usual.

Asia Pacific GT2 6am

Radar shows we are in a small dry window that should be gone in a lap or so. The track must already be wet, and with more rain on the way Inters it is.

Except the track is bone dry, and when the light blue rain on the radar does arrive after a lap, it doesn't! The radar says rain, but not a drop to be seen. Inters are dead, I'm miles behind, time to make the 7am slot if I quit early. What a waste of time...or was it?

AP GT2 7am
Fairly straight forward dry race, finished 2nd, but it was close!

GT1 8pm

Qualified 9th, dry race all the way, finish 8th, just, it was close. I probably should bank the points as at a max 7th would have been my best possible result against this field of racers. But I want to race again!

R0-A0-Finish2.jpeg

GT1 10pm
A stronger field, and a fair few more points available than my last race. Even 11th, where I qualified, would be only 2 points less my previous 8th.

Pre-race radar shows a small dry window, Inters it is then...hold on...haven't I seen this rain pattern before. RH it is then!

As expected, the track is bone dry, despite all the pre-race rain. Quite a mad first lap with some fast runners up front racing around on Inters at a decent pace. The rest of us in a line behind. I survive all this to start the 2nd lap in 4th place.

End of lap 2, it's clear some real rain is coming now, time for Inters. The top two don't agree and stay out on slicks, as do another two who fly past while I'm in the pits, so down to 6th for now. It took a while for the rain to get going properly, but between the Karussell and mini-Karussell it went straight up to the 2/3rd bar. It didn't take for this to move me up to 2nd place.

Now for the nerve wracking part, holding on to a bloody good finishing position over two more laps of the Nordschleife in the pouring rain on Inters, when I should ideally be on Wets. For a lap and a half I thought I could keep 2nd, but there was one car closing in fast, too fast. The pressure led to a little mistake, briefly onto the grass but I managed to get back on track without too much time lost, although 2nd was gone, 3rd was still looking good. It was getting close by the finish, but I made it for a podium in the rain. All thanks to that 6am Asia-Pacific race that didn't turn out to be such a waste of time after all.

Last night was a frustrating one, I love the Nordschleife but my races were bad.

Slot 2:
This wasn't a bad start, it was dry for the first 4 laps so not a lot happened but then it rained on the 5th and that's where the problems started, the catch-up effect where the cars behind have a drier track is back so the race inevitably turned into a mess in the final corner, the guy in the Aston (and his lapdog from the same team) said this was a dirty move but I don't see what more I could've done, it's a by-product of the silly way PD have made the wet races. The frustrating thing is this was fixed last year but they've rebroken it, there is no skill in driving in the rain now, I don't even know where I finished because all of those positions are meaningless when they're decided by luck.

Slot 3: This one started pretty much the same way the first did, a few mistakes allowed the lead group to pull away but still it was an entertaining battle for 4th with another Porsche, 2 Lexus' and a Ferrari and since it didn't rain it looked like that would run all the way to finish... However (😬), the Lexus had a bit of a tank slapper and I was caught up in the aftermath, when I re-joined it was down in 10th behind a Corvette, no matter how close I got at the start of the straights I never had enough grunt to get a move made, in the end I pushed too hard and spun at Aremberg and dropped another spot to a Peugeot to finish down in P11. I'll have to upload the clip of that at some point.

Overall these races were a lot less enjoyable than the exhibition season, taking so much power out of the cars in the latest BoP has really damaged the racing and the fun of just driving in qualifying

First slot in the Americas (8 PM EDT). In door #15 of an all-A/S lobby with 183 points up for grabs, driving the Jaguar.

In qualifying, I'd left lots of room to the Porsche ahead for the flying lap, but caught up to them mid-way through and spent the rest of the lap riding their bumper, frustratingly unable to find a place to get by. My time of 8:14.871 landed me Q11.

gtws-mc-rd1-start.jpg

No rain on the radar.

The race got off to rough start -- rear-ended into T1 for rear bumper damage. There was the usual lap 1 chaos through the GP portion as everybody found their slot. I went into Nord in P12, following the GT-R pictured above, and settled into the back of a three-way fight for P10. I felt like I was faster than the two ahead but could never find the opportunity to get by.

Lap 2 was a disaster. I took Flugplatz too fast and went into the grass, then the barrier.
gtws-mc-rd1-crash.jpg

And just for good measure, I bounce across the road into the barrier on the other side to balance out the damage. Dropped two positions to P14 as I got myself back on track.

That put me behind the Porsche who had held me up in qualifying again. Like then, I was impatiently right on their bumper looking for a chance to get by. That impatience caused me to rear-end them at Metzgesfeld, giving me a 2-second penalty, plus time lost waiting for them get back on track.

Dejected, I puttered around behind the Porsche for the rest of the lap before taking the penalty.

Spent the next lap driving around alone in P14. Towards the end of it, I had caught back up to the Porsche. They didn't pit, so I did, hoping for an undercut.

Came out still in P14, and drove out the rest of the race alone. It wasn't until the final run through Dottinger that I saw another car, when I blasted past the GT-R, presumably recovering from a crash.

I crossed the line P13, but there were two drivers that never pit (including the Porsche), which promoted me to P11 for 106 points.

A disappointing start to the season. Let's see if I can do any better at Interlagos.

I don't think I mentioned it my report but I did have some connection problems in my race. Somewhere around lap 2/3 one guy popped up as having left the race, and everyone else went down to a 2 bar connection. At the end of lap 4 I was coming up to the second carousel and had yellow flags, then saw two cars skidding around on the grass along the barrier and everyone went down to 1 bar, but we all survived.

It's a good laugh that they've been running these races since 2018 and they still manage to have these problems.

I don't know if it could have an impact... but just before entering in the GTWS race I got a PS5 update...
It lasted around 5 minutes.
Before to do the second tentative i have shut down the PS5 and restarted again. No connection issue.

Very good… would be nice if we could redo this round though!

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

My first slot was an absolute disaster.
While I had spent a good chunk of time practicing the race, for whatever reason... actually, I know what the reason was... I absolutely blew chunks in the first slot.

After qualifying 11th, I finished 14th. Out of 14 finishers. Oh my goodness, I was horrific. It was a fully dry race, and I still lacked quality. I had a couple of times where I went off road. This was not, in fact an off-road race. Sadly, my BMW became part lawn mower.

So I decided to join the second slot. And I'm very glad that I did.

Once again, I qualified 11th. But I wasn't as far off the pace as I was for the first slot.

I largely kept my nose down and, other than the driver who used me as a bit of cornering assistance, I was able to stay contact free.

Brief sidebar. That driver wound up finishing second in my heat.

I was able to keep up a fairly decent pace, I even managed to move up the field a little bit. This was again going to be a dry race according to the radar. I decided to come in after lap 3. The reason? The top qualifier wound up directly in front of me. I felt what was good enough for that driver was good enough for me!

This also allowed me to give a full, hard Sprint for the final two laps.

Eventually, I crossed the finish line. Here was the result.
195fbfdb5fc59-screenshotUrl.jpg

I decided I would quit while I was hot! Also, as an old person, that midnight race was not on my agenda. At least, not on a school night!

Currently, I am first in my county . . . and maybe even my state! I know that won't last, so I'll celebrate now.

However, I was unable to view on the Gran Turismo website properly to see just where I stand for BMW. I know I'm 17th but the drop-down to view other manufacturers wasn't working on the site.

Anyway, I hope others feared better than I did. I'm still happy with my result.
