Why is the blimp burning? Engine fire? Didn't see any thing on the news about it in Los Angeles news...
Maybe it's this thing?

Did anyone else see the red balloon floating across the track during one of the manufacturer's cup laps? I swear I didn't imagine it, and that's exactly what it looked like.

I thought the same thing when I watched the race… thinking what was that? Turns out, it’s a visibility marker attached to electrical power lines, makes electrical lines more visible to helicopters and aircraft. Can spot them from certain camera angles on the road Atlanta track.

It was a great experience overall, let me tell you this, even if it’s a 2-3 hour drive, if one of these events happen to be near you, you should totally go for it!

It was great meeting up @bigfluffy888 and @Jordan (both real gentlemen, 10/10 I would talk to again), I even met someone who I am still in contact with from time to time but has been banned from the forums for quite some time now :sly:

The fan fest was an awesome idea because you could spot the competitors and influencers alike hanging around the venue, I had a small chat as can be with Daniel Solís, Angel Inostroza and SuperGT, all three really well mannered and courteous

I even had a chance to have a chat with Jesse Robles, one of the builders of the RCR EG Civic we have in the game, his father, Phil was also there! (And so was the car)

He did explain that from PD didn’t scan the car until 2021, even though they won the award in 2017, interesting piece of trivia there

Since it was both over Daytona and in a game, it'd be unlikely to make the news in LA.

The inexplicably burning blimp wasn't the oddest thing either, as the whole event seemed hinky from a technical viewpoint.

On YT both streams had obvious freezes (non-local; so many complaints) but the Nations Cup was worse. The end of the sprint was missed entirely, freezing with the leaders at the Heel and resuming just after the finish line. In the main race there was another 30-second freeze, and after it resumed we got 30s of race which then repeated itself somehow.

The sound problems too... yikes. Cutting out and then flipping out during the fanfare, out-of-sync onboard-locked sound in the first 2-3 laps of the Nations final, commentator/crew comms being played out on the stream (and in the venue) - Tom, it seems, couldn't hear anything (that comment aired, as did "so good we did it twice" on the repeat fanfare).

I've been to loads of these things and occasional glitches do happen but that's the most I've seen not only at a single event but across an entire season - all packed into one. Wonder if there were issues with the venue tech.

Is this one of the unannounced Spec III update cars? ;)
No ****ing way. As in, a broke clock...

Never did catch a glimpse of @Jordan in the crowd. :( Where were you? Up in one of the balconies?
Here we go again, I know I picked a Spaniard but as usual I can't remember which one
Just got home. Fun event!!! The crowd elevates it for sure, definitely more fun than watching on a screen on my couch.

The only negative experience I had was standing in line for the sim booth, only to find the line I initially picked was stuck on a showroom demo with a 2 minute Pagani trial at Glen, with all the others having the full car and track selection open. Hopped in the 2nd line, waited another ~45 minutes, got in the seat, got a black screen and the entire rig lost power. Got in a 3rd line, waited another 20-30 mins, got in the seat, whipped out the Celica and put on the TRD body parts in GT Auto, put it on a single lap Nordschleife run, and as the timer started I got kicked off cuz the venue was closing. :banghead:

It was more a silly thing but what a bummer, looked like a fun rig. I’d also be really curious to see what all was in it, it seemed like some of the spec III cars might’ve been available (pretty sure I saw the new fictional historic F1 car getting used?), and the full tuning and GT Auto menu was accessible, so I wonder if there were some unreleased engine swaps available. I also didn’t check to see if the new tracks could be played yet, I was just trying to get on a run ASAP lol.

I also only barely missed out on meeting Kaz, unsurprisingly he got swarmed and he made his way around signing stuff and getting pictures with fans, but I just couldn’t place myself near him at the right time. So no signed GT games for this time.

I also missed the food truck, it looked REALLY good, but I waited till after Nations Cup to try and eat, and by then they sold out of all their entree and just had simple tortillas left.

Otherwise, great collection of cars in the fan fest, great crowd, great presentation (there was loud audible cheers when the Espace appeared on screen in the Yas Marina trailer), and pacing felt really good. It was fun to meet strangers all connected via the same nerdy goofy hobby we all share.

I’d definitely do this again if it’s local enough, and I 100% recommend trying to get to one if it comes to your neck of the woods!
Strange seeing you without a fish head
Glad you enjoyed it, pity timing of stuff didn't work in your favour.

Seems like the viewing wasn't quite as good as in the London studio setup

Glad you had a great time. Yes, I would recommend anyone who can should get to one of these.

It looks to me like the strobe lights travelled from London to LA @Famine ...

And @Jordan hasn't changed a bit since we met at Orange Box in London in 2016! I wish I could say the same for myself

What is that Mazda Gr.1 car in photo above?
That’s the Mazda DPi (IMSA’s previous top prototype class before Hypercar/GTP era), I believe the 2021(?) car that won Petit Le Mans.

As per usual nothing you see at a GT event or with GT sticker sponsorship inherently means it’s coming to the game, we had 10 years of N24 Porsches that could never be added due to EA’s license, for example. It’s simply who PD could get to show up, and someone had the DPi stored close enough to get it there last minute.

I actually did forget about this, the audio issues weren’t just on the stream, there was a number of mic issues in the first half of the show, taking a minute or two to get them to turn on. In person it seemed to go really smoothly from Nations and on.

Oh the humanity

I was watching Jimmy Broadbent react to the show on youtube and he immediately noticed the technical side was off this weekend. It's really obvious too, these shows are usually pretty smooth.
I wonder if the venue was problematic for the broadcast team. It's a movie theater isn't it?

I got a gift car for predicting the winner of the Manufacturers Cup and received a Subaru BRZ, I though the prize was 1 million credits?

Doh, I'm dumb , yeah the car was lasst month prize, for some weird reason I thought it showed me winning a car. I did think why would I get a Subasru when it was a Porsche that won :)

Dude some nice photos there with sum GT celeb royalty, but I couldnt help but notice (the rascal in me) the skimpy bikini girl from spring break prancing/photobombing around in the background of the photo of you and Steve, I am seeign right?? RIght???

Then I saw that EG Tuned black Civic from the Game and thought:

I personally don’t have much to add other than, yes, there were a fair share of technical issues at the event. Also, I got the impression there were less people around for Nations. Finally, Miyazono was very much a fan favorite and so the booing after getting taken out was much expected.

And now, a few more pics from my side trip to the Peterson Museum.

Speaking of Petersen (I also went :sly:), did anyone else notice this blunder? Unless I’m reading it wrong, which could be true, that Gran Turismo 6 logo proves it released earlier than 2020.

I saw the scale model at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014, so that date is definitely wrong!

My Invitational in Berlin was pretty average and clean; I did two nice overtakes and then spent 2.5 laps touring on my own with the three leaders out of sight.

If I'd been @Jordan and copped that horse**** penalty you'd never hear the end of it
