PD inflexible here. First slot at 10PM and next at midnight is too late for me. No reason most of these rounds couldn't be hourly.

Timeslots are pretty much tailored for the Japanese players here
The timeslots in GT1 are useless, ever since they made the change to just have 3 slots. They are only this limited because those trying for the World Finals complained (as for them usually the slots after the first slot are pretty useless as they don't get them enough points), but ended up ruining it for all "normal" GT1 players.

GT1 in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage

Race 1
: Q13, caught up in first lap chaos through the esses, knocked into spin, recovered to 11th.

Race 2: Hit some weird extremely rare issue with the wheel setup, it suddenly go very light mid-corner losing all feel. Didn't manage a clean qualifying lap, no better in the race, parked it in the pits.

Race 3: The race 2 trouble somehow put a fire in my belly, all three Q laps were faster than I'd ever done in practice for P3. Not sure I've driven such a brilliant sequence of laps before.

Start went cleanly, settled down into P3, pulling a gap on P4, and dropping behind the top 2. Stretched my softs to lap 11, longer than ideal, but trying to avoid dropping back into slower traffic. Went fairly smoothly to the finish, except the P4 fellow catching and passing after switching to softs.

P4 at the finish, better than I'd ever hoped for really, especially after only having pace for Q13 on my first attempt.

Looking back through the replay, surprised to see only myself in Q3, plus Q9 & Q13 started on softs.

A fun day of racing, despite the best efforts of the penalty system...

Race 1 - Team Aston Martin (alt account) - V12 Vantage GT3 '12 - GT2 - North America - 11AM EST - Door #12 - 112 point available - Q11 (1:19.473)

I started on RMs since I was near the back, planning to follow the 13RM-9RS strategy that my testing found best.

There was a lot of chaos on lap 1. I managed to stay out of it and came out of the lap in P6.

This car is amazing on the exit into the back straight. It just rockets out of there. On lap 2, I overtook a Ferrari on the straight to gain P5.

It wasn't long until I caught up to the Porsche ahead. P4 came on lap 4 when the Porsche went wide at turn 1. Most of the rest of my RM stint was spent trying to hold off this Porsche. They'd catch up in the turns of sector 1 and I'd pull away on the straight. They briefly took P4 from me at the end of lap 9, after catching up on the straight the one time I got the exit wrong, but gave it right back when they went wide at the top of the hill on lap 10 (pictured above).

The Porsche went into the pits for RS tires on lap 11. I stayed out, as planned, until lap 13. I was worried about the undercut, but it turns out I didn't need to. I came out in P4 again, 2 seconds ahead of the Porsche.

From there, the race was pretty uneventful. I ran out the rest of the laps for a P4 finish. 98 points and a 3.7% increase in my DR to 60.5% of DR B.

Race 2 - Team Renault (main account) - R.S.01 GT3 '16 - GT2 - North America - 1PM EST - Door #14 - 127 point available - Q11 (1:19.327)
gtws-mc-rd1-78-first-attempt.webp

Not much to report on this one. I wasn't as successful avoiding the chaos this time. It was spoiled by a couple incidents.

The first was when I rear-ended a Porsche as they rejoined after going off the track on turn 1. That got me a 2-second penalty.

The second was when I tried to follow the pink Porsche through in the photo above. The white Peugeot turned into me resulting them flying off to Narnia and me getting a 4-second penalty. I waited up for them, too, which added another 10+ seconds.

By then I felt like the race was a wash. I still managed a P10 finish for 79 points, bringing my DR down 1.1% to 71.5% of DR B. I knew I could do better, though, so I went again.

Race 3 - Team Renault (main account) - R.S.01 GT3 '16 - GT2 - North America - 2PM EST - Door #12 - 123 point available - Q11 (1:19.238)

This time I managed to stay out of trouble.

The first few laps were pretty hectic, but for the most part everybody survived. I only gained one position to P10 on lap 2, when a Lamborghini crashed at the top of the hill.

I settled in at the end of a 4-car train (pictured above) for most of my RM stint, never able to improve my position. I pitted on lap 10 for RS tires, hoping to get an undercut on them.

It worked. When all the pitting was done, I was up to P8.

Some good fortune came my way on lap 18 when the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo ahead of me battled for position at turn 1, resulting in them both going wide into the grass. Up to P6.

That's where I finished for 98 points and an increase of 2.1% to my DR, bringing it back up to 73.6% of DR B.

Looking forward to Dragon Trail next. I started doing some strategy testing there on the weekend already. If we don't have rain, it is looking like we'll have to pit. For me the RS tires last 7 laps, tops. RMs can go for 15. So it looks like the strategy choices will be:
  • Mixed RS/RM, running each until they are pretty much ragged.
  • RM/RM, playing it safe, or
  • RS/RS/RS hoping to make up the time for a second pit
I could be interesting. Of course, if it rains I expect the strategies will be more situational. We'll see.

Classic PD solutioning. A bit like dropping the power on all Gr3 and Gr4 because their physics model is too snappy on acceleration instead of fixing the physics, ruining Group 4 in the process

EMEA GT2 - 18:00 Q8 - P8

With a time of 1:20:3xx I am in P8, pole was 1:18:9
I started with medium because I wanted a compund that allowed me to stay on the track as long as possbile to decide to pit in the most convenient moment.

However at T6 (after the S) I went "strangely" wide, unxepcted, never happend during my training laps.
I think that during the race simulation the temperature of the tires are not so relevant, while during the official race we start with cold tires and due to my lack of experience I didn't tought about that at all... so I spin and became the last of the group.

From here I had to rebuild all the race, I kept my pace consistent as much as possible lapping an average of 1:20:8 - 1:21:3.
At the end of lap 15 I pit for soft tires and I am in P11.

I am lapping sometimes below 1:20 and I am pushing and stressing the car in front of me, and for that went wide in T1.
With this pressure made to other drivers and some penalties or mistakes I amnow back in P8.

The first 4 have gaps within 5 seconds, from 5th position the gap is 21 seconds and I am in P8 with 26 seconds of gap from te first.
So without the mistake I could finish much better... but I didn't have the willignes to re-do the race.

I need more practice and experience to avoid this stupid mistake at the start.

Let's move to Dragon Trail hoping the weather will create some funny situation...

Did Slot 1 of GT1 in Australia

#14 on the door in an all A+/S lobby, 285 points on offer for the win.
Qualified 12th with a 1:18.1, pole was a 17.6 - 12 cars within half a second! And I think another few cars only a tenth or two behind that, how horrifying!

The McLaren 650 is pretty good on its tyres and is generally nice on the Mediums as well, so I started on the Meds. Very few mistakes and very, very close racing from the pack around me. Only 1 or 2 went off into The Ether through the esses. And making the most of someone's bad run I snuck through into the 90-degree rights on the inside.
After about 5 laps in think everyone else's Softs were starting to go, at about the same time my Mediums were coming up to temp, so I made another few positions there.

Lap 10 I came in to switch to the Softs (10M+12S). It was then pretty easy to tell that a lot of people were on Softs in the first stint because they suddenly were nowhere in the second stint instead of being right on me. A Porsche driver called Jimmy got the undercut on me and went from 0.5 behind to 0.8 ahead on fresh Mediums. But eventually I got past him by applying pressure for 4 laps. A few more small incidents ahead in the closing laps and I was able to make it up to P6.

On the last lap, one of the top drivers who'd had a Lap 1 Issue was catching me at about 1 second a lap and I only just managed to beat him to the line by 0.1 seconds.
Suitably shaken, I decided to just take those points and run!

TL;DR #14, Q12, P6, 227 points.
I think we were in the same lobby actually! After comfortably doing 1.17.4s in lobbies, I was feeling pretty good for this…
On track for an even better qualy time, then dropped it. Reset, then copped a penalty on my only remaining lap. Qualified last with a 1.18.4.

Race didn’t go much better. Couldn’t get into a rhythm off the start, moved up to 14th, then dropped it all on my own. Recovered to finish 14th.

And being in Australia, where our slots are 10pm, 12am and 2am….i didn’t bother staying up for another go. At least I’m not in NZ (the first slot would be midnight)

Many thanks to @Moose78 for testing and sharing tyre life at Dragon Tail.
Given that Nurburgring has 2 compounds required and Spa has a 1 pitstop requirement, I’m thinking rain at Dragon Tail is inevitable. The only question remaining for me is, will it start raining before the end of lap 7?

This was my first GT7 online race since the manufacturer exhibition season in April last year, so i was a bit rusty.

Unfortunately this season got off to a disappointing start.

I qualified P13 with a 18.5, and then in the race, at the end of lap 1, a GTR and an AMG were having a good battle into the chicane which compromised their exit, which also slowed my exit as well, and that allowed a group of 3 other cars to pull up along side us on the start/finish straight, and unfortunately i got squeezed on to the exit kerb at T1 which caused my car to spin.

So i spent majority of the race driving at the back on my own. After the pit stops i did catch back up to the AMG that i was behind on lap 1, but then they started pulling away from me and had a comfortable gap of 2 seconds for the last couple laps of the race.

In the end i finished P14, since 2 cars DNF'd.

Just finished my race and it was somewhat great.
(Gt2 all DR B and SR S, door 16, 138 points for p1)
I qualified p6 with and 1:19.2**
On the first lap everyone kind of kept to themselves, no one trying anything to
Optimistic but a guy cut a corner and I overtook him for p5.
Lap 2/3 was close to the battle for p3 and I think you can guess what happened in turn 1.

You guessed it I was somehow the only one off
20970266245858081.webp

I was down to p14 out of 15. I was a bit frustrated but in the end it was a blessing in disguise: I could manage my own race and make the best of the RM I started on. I quickly started catching some slower car and they didn’t put up much of a fight and I did two clean overtakes
20970460853796293.webp

20969902569428485.webp

By the time I pited (lap 14) I was sitting in p5. Joined back in p9 and managed to get up to p7 on the new RS. On the last lap I managed a cool overtake by the outside of turn 6 but it confused the Audi with its braking point and gave me a little tap. On the back straight we were 3 car try to get p6 and clever car placement from the AMG meant he was successful and I got down to p8.
20970864946408556.webp

20970175950680210.webp

I the end I brought home a healthy 99 point not the most impressive but good enough for a race that at one point I was almost last.
It was a very clean race and after the race the guy in the Audi apologized for the contact. That’s what I call sportsmanship.
Now onto Dragon trail…

Has anyone tried Dragon Trail free practice already? I tried so but I was already getting a wet track with even more rain falling which warranted Heavy Wet tyres. Because of the wet conditions, I could post a slow 1:44:2xx only whereas the leaders had posted laps of 1:29s.

When I saw Calster's fastest lap replay, he was running on a completely dry track though. Will be be getting random weather movements in free practice or is there something more to this?

Does anyone have details on how the Dr change works in manufacturers races? It seems like the top half gain Dr and the bottom half lose. Despite being door 16 and finishing 14th, I lost over 1000 Dr last night….

The free practice lobby always remains the same. If you want a dry track, you have to start practicing and wait until the track dries….

It works exactly as it does in Daily Races, just with a larger modifier.

In essence you take DR from anyone you beat and lose it to anyone who beats you, proportional to the difference in the DR you each start the race with. Broadly speaking, yes, the top half gain and the bottom half lose but it depends on the difference in starting DR.

Two races, two ho-hum results. First slot I spun on the second lap, put in a recovery drive to finish 12th. Next slot I started 9th, got pinballed around, got a few penalties, finished 10th. Both were 290ish point lobbies.

So, my first World Series race went ok, not too surprising I guess that it’s like daily racing to a degree, mostly fine.

Started on the medium and went to soft after 12 laps, seemed whatever everyone was doing.

Started p8, tried to pass this chap who blocked me twice and when I finally got past he puts me in the sand?! Thanks, way to fight for 7th place! So momentarily at the back but raced back through to 10th with an honourable mention to this true gentleman who I race for 7 laps and finally took him on the last lap and no spitefulness at all.

I’m going to be putting more time into this going forwards 😁

Race 1 didn't go so well. I didn't have the best qualifying, finishing 6th. I started the race in the RM position because I didn't want to get into any battles in the first part of the race, as I was sure many would choose the RS section for the first stint. But everything went as usual: I crashed into the gravel after the long straight, then a car came out of the grass in front of me, which I managed to get away with, sending it flying way ahead, resulting in a 3-second penalty. Ultimately, I barely managed to get to 5th place and 33 points.
I decided I'd do better on my second attempt. Then I was in for a surprise: with my С rating, more than half the other drivers were B. But by then I qualified 2nd, also started in the RM position, also avoided any battles, and after three laps, I'd dropped to 4th. By lap 8, everyone in front, except the leader, had pitted, and I was able to drive at my own pace, building a gap. And so it happened: after my pit stop on lap 14, I moved up to second place, with a gap of over 12 seconds to first place and over 6 seconds to third place. I would have easily made it to the finish line if a message hadn't appeared on lap 20 that the controller was low on battery!:D I didn't expect that; those were the most intense three laps! But I made it, held on to second place, and finally got into the B rating and 55 points—my best yet!

Love the concept of the qualy free practice for Dragon Trail. I love the progressive weather here which lap after lap enables You to go faster & faster. I started with wet, then inters & then softs to end my 27 lap run. Felt as if in a race simulation of sorts.

Probably Dragon Trail is going to have changeable weather conditions so changing tyres at the right time will also be the key. I managed a time of 1:32:329 which is okayish but I enjoyed the path of progression in order to get this far low (I was at 1:44s in my 1st lap).

Does anybody know if the weather conditions in training will apply to the actual race and qualy session on Saturday?
I guess its only for practice and races will be random weather but maybe anyone knows exactly?

Hey guys, great reading all of your posts. Nice to see Renault being repped by @VTEC Driver and @Moose78 I don't feel so alone this season.

Slot 1 EMEA 242 pt lobby qualified P3 1.18.119
All went well until I got absolutely murdered by an Italian in a Beetle, on turn one of lap 7. He tried to use me as an barrier, but was still going so fast that he went onto the grass with me. Went from 2nd to last. Finished in the pits. The perpetrator finished in P10.

Slot 2 EMEA 180 pt lobby. Lost some SR in the last race so I was demoted to a slightly lower A-S lobby qualified Pole 1:18.191

Had a great battle with a Swedish driver in a Ferrai 296 but ultimately my strategy to pit on lap 13 proved to be better than his undercut on lap 12, and in the final stages, I took home the win, with a finishing time of (29:34), which would have got me 295 points in a higher rated lobby.

I saw a well known streamer finish in 3rd with a (29:36) and collect 295 points. Such is life, but I had a great race and the Renault looks like it will be very competitive in the upcoming combos. Good luck in the next round to everyone taking part!

It looks like we are getting scripted weather for this one. I've only had time to briefly to do the enter-exit-reenter dance in Free Practice a few times, but every time it was the same weather pattern on the radar.

There's no way to know for sure what we'll get in the race until Saturday, but it sure looks to me like PD is giving us a scripted pattern. Usually the weather in actual race follows what we get in Free Practice.

From what @Uday9479 said, I'm guessing the track starts wet and dries out over time. I'll have to try driving a full 20-lap session to see.
According to GTStats quali will be dry, but race weather is unspecified.
I would be skeptical that they can know that qualifying will be dry with any confidence before any race slots have happened. It is certainly a likely possibility. That is often what PD does, but there have also been races where we qualify on a wet track. I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

You’re right to be skeptical as IIRC, they’ve been wrong before. Interestingly they’ve just updated it to say race weather will be R05. Be ready for anything is probably the best bet.

Hi, very impressed of your pole position time and your result in such high level competition.
This means that if I would be capable to drive properly this car can do it good things.

Just for my curiosity, did you race with TC0 or ?
I used TC2 because already at TC1 in some corner I could easily spin and not really capable to manage the acceleration to avoid that.

Any other specific setup you have chosen?
(sorry for my question, but just to understand how much poor is my capability...)
