Gr 4 lovers

Gr.4 showing back up is genuinely the most I've been surprised by a PD move in a while.

How's the BoP for that at the minute, which drivetrain is on top?

It’s mostly a Genesis party every week in the dailies.

EDIT - checked the recent leaderboards and it's more the Citroen GT and Mazda Atenza heading things at the moment.

Very nice to race with both categories and also a good track selection.
Now it is important to choose the right brand that offer a good car in Gr.4 (and I am not really expert on that category).

Good lord! I can't believe what I'm seeing! GR4 is back! I pretty much forgot how to drive that class because GT1 league just abandoned it. This is going to be epic! And a nice selection of tracks too! As much as I love Nords, I'm glad it's not making an appearance this season.

Spa, RBR and Road Atlanta seem to be the Endurance races, which is exactly what I love. I'm expecting random dynamic weather at Spa (hopefully).

Anybody else notice the tuning regs at Deep Forest (round 6) They're letting us tune the gears and the suspension This just got a lot more interesting

@Moose, you're gonna be a busy man this season!

Let's goooooo!!!!

There’s even a round at Blue Moon Infield! What madness is this? Has someone new infiltrated PD?

Just a shame it's only 2 Gr4 rounds and they are both on Wednesdays and Interlagos is just a no-strategy sprint.
It's Thursdays now instead of Wednesdays!
That's a novelty too...

Strange, this is how it looks for me, it seems like I have schedule for day later (also Sundays) 😅 :

Where are you located? I recall many of the A.O. people got hosed in GT1 where the three time slots were in the wee hours in the morning for them. So rather than Wed and Sat it was Thur and Sun at 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 am or something.

Yeah, that's probably it. My computer timezone may be off and the webpage is showing adjusted times and dates.
Checked with the console and all is normal there. 👍

Road Atlanta is looking like a skip race for me. 30 laps of a track I really dislike is not my idea of fun. The others look fine. Spa and RBR might have some rain.

Not sure who to sign with. I think I've done pretty much of all of them by now except Nissan (I don't get on at all with the GTR). Maybe Ferrari as a sendoff for the 458 before its grandson turns up in December.

According to GT engine the weather at Spa is set to 'random.' So yea, rain a definite possibility.

Hopefully it is properly random and not the scripted stuff we've had before. It's no fun and a bit stupid knowing exactly when to pit because you've read it here or watched some streamer from the East.

There was a 20-lap Spa race in the official season.

I will be surprised if the weather pattern is different from however it was then (I forget), given how often PD crib from past seasons for these.

Real life has injected itself between me and virtually anything else today, but I have to say I'm looking forward to the new season. Nice to see the return of Gr.4 and the appearance of Blue Moon.

I decided on my manufacturers months ago, already, based on the least popular ones in Canada last season that I have yet to try: Ford (main) and Subaru (alt). I'm trying something new here with the two concurrent accounts. I'm hoping I'm not biting off more than I can chew.

I did a fair amount of Daily Races in each account during the break to level-set my DR for competitive racing, so I'm hoping to have some fun this time around instead of just driving laps around the back of the field.

New race combos and Gr.4 is absolutely not what I was expecting. I'll miss the RBR race which is a shame because it's long and looks like it might have weather but this is a nice surprise and there's a bit of variety. Let's go.

The gr4 inclusion certainly adds a variable… I think that will be a big deciding factor on what manufacturer to choose.

Mazda and genesis should be solid choices… but a-little boring/mainstream…

I’m leaning towards Lamborghini myself.

What are you all thinking?

IMO, Lambo, Nissan, and Genny will be the most popular choices as they're Gr3 car and Gr4 cars are competitive. I'll even throw Porsche and Ferrari a nod. BMW has the best Gr3 car in the game, but their Gr4 car is pants; similar situation with AMG and Lexus.

And, since five of the six rounds will count, at least one Gr4 race will be required by all. According to the leader boards for Spa, a lot of BMWs being used regardless.

Great to see Gr.4 make a return!! Adds another dynamic when selecting a manufacturer.

Also great to see Blue Moon Bay make an appearance in the GTWS. The Infield layout is a criminally underused layout that has always produced close racing every time I have raced there

I think I'll go with Ferrari this season. The Gr.4 is a great all-rounder and surprisingly little used by drivers

Going with VW. Love the Beetle, always fun to beat its cousin 911s. The Scirocco is also surprisingly fast, rarely gets used though.

All of the testing that I've done for this first round so far has been in Free Practice -- mostly just to see what the weather does.

From what I seen, the weather moves very slowly. The race always starts with a dry track.

If there is rain along the moving edge of weather, it hits the track toward the end of the the 5th lap. If it is just the lightest blue rain on the radar, it is probably safe to go another lap, but anything darker, the moisture gauge will be well over the first tick before the 6th lap is out. Best to pit for rain tires at the end of the 5th if there is any moderate or dark blue on the track.

Even with the lightest blue rain, the water accumulates on the track. In the one 20-lap session I did, which was mostly light blue with some medium blue, it continued to accumulate until it was just over the second tick on the moisture gauge, showing just a sliver of blue. It took until lap 10 to reach this level, then stayed there until the band of weather cleared the track on lap 16. Once the rain stopped, the moisture gauge was very slow to drop. It did come down under the second tick, but stayed well over the halfway mark until I got to the end of lap 20.

It looks to me like we can get three basic patterns of weather:
  1. Completely dry - I still have to do some testing on this, but the obvious thing to do strategy-wise here is pit midway through, change tires, and take on whatever fuel is need to to get to the finish.
  2. Rain to the end - Rain comes on lap 5 and soaks the track to the end. It seems like the W tires are the best choice since the moisture gauge gets pinned to the second tick mark or slightly above for the rest of the race.
  3. Band of rain - This is a toss-up between W and IMs. The IMs will be faster while the water is accumulating and clearing, but Ws will be faster while everything is soaked. I suppose I'll just play it by ear if I find myself in this situation.
Since the weather is random, I fully expect that my races will be completely dry because that's what always happens. I hope I'm wrong. I like racing in the rain. It's one of the few things in this game that I feel I'm pretty good at.

So, I've done a few practice races for this round and it's a solid 47 minute race (on a dry run), but that could easily bump up to 50+ minutes with persistent rain.

With not so much time available I am testing some Gr4 cars that I am not used to use.
I tried the Peugeot RCZ and Suzuki Swift.
The first one provide continues reactions to the wheel like "sliding tires", while the second one suffers of a quite strong understeer like the more you accelerate the more tend to slide.
Right now not really happy with those two.
