What I like to do for driving in the rain is enable the driving line assist. When it is wet, the usual driving line is more slippery than the rest of the track, so I use the driving line assist to show me where that slippery part is. To maximize my grip, I try to drive alongside the line without driving on it, and only cross it briefly when I need to set myself up for the next corner. I find it really helps to keep the car from sliding out from under me.
Thanks again Canada goose I mean moose for your insights on testign and practicing, I will try some test races today with my trusty LEXUS RCF and see how i far at SPA and in the usual daily races. I look forward to this even if the rain is killer like the british weather at the moment lol!!

Five laps of practice and I get a blue screen. This bodes well.
I have been getting some server side errors recently on GT7, and one time the game just crashed on me during the NSX TT, and gave me a video log report to send to Sony off my PS5, and I was liek sarcastically, "this is frikking great PD thanks"

I made this Gr.3 livery so long ago Michelin was still the tyre partner. Here we go.

The effect is still there, just not as strong as it used to be.
Can 100% confirm. Especially noticeable under breaking and when trail breaking into a corner. Pretty much impossible on the racing line, very doable off of it.

What I haven't figured out yet how to go off the line is too much because at some point you only gain some marginal speed yet take a long way around or break a lot more to make your artificially inflated corner.

I have made another discovery that I am very surprised by. I always assumed that power was actually equal under BoP for the same type of car no matter its condition, tuning, etc. I am now convinced that oil quality does indeed make a difference.

With worn oil (Normal rather than Excellent) my GT-R topped out at 257 kph (lap after lap, not due to bad Eau Rouge).
1000020339.webp

Whereas with Excellent oil it briefly hits the limiter in 5th gear at 260.
1000020340.webp

Both times it showed the exact same power stats when entering. On the one hand the (alleged) power after BoP was 366 kW both times. On the other hand the alleged kW before in base condition was also 430 kW even though worn oil should lower it if I am not mistaken.

I have no idea if this effect/bug is limited to free practice but I will never race without worn oil ever again from now on.

Sigh. My time slots are 10pm, midnight and 2am. We always get screwed over here in Aus for the Manu races.

On the plus side… great to see Gr4 back! Makes the manufacturer choices more interesting. I’ve gone with McLaren this time, something different.

I'm not so sure it is because of worn oil. In the slower screenshot, you have a headwind, but in the faster one, it is a tailwind. I'd guess that is the reason for the difference, not the oil quality.

Regardless, I'm superstitious about the oil quality, too. I always change it before I enter the race. I get a car wash, too, just in case it somehow matters to the physics engine.

With this being the last season for the 458 Italia as Ferrari's loaner and GTWS car in general, I thought it's appropriate that I made a send-off livery referencing the "blank" AF Corse livery shown at the 2016 Copper Box reveal of GT Sport.
(This was originally an edit of someone else's livery, I had to remake it myself from scratch for it to be shareable.)

Standard version / With "Grazie 458 Italia" decals (the one I'll be using in-season)

Just watched a stream for a bit and realized that two of my break markers are missing.

The long post to the right of start finish shortly behind the 100 board and the rock going into Pouhon (I think) the long left hander in the middle.

For Pouhon I think the marshalls on the left work too but for turn 1 I have no idea. Probably past the 100 board and then by feel. Any ideas here?

GT2 EMEA 1st slot split A/B lobby 151 points up for grabs

Was boring and went for Porsche as they're cars I know well. Wasn't feeling confident going in as for some reason I just can't go fast at spa. Qualifying was dry but was tricky trying to carve out some clean air but also going quick enough to get 2 flying laps - made it by 7 seconds and put a time of 2:20.8 something which was enough for 6 on the grid (9 on the doors).

Looking at pre race weather can see a band of rain coming - nearly switched to inters for the start as it was moving so quick but remembered the info here and expected it to get close on lap 5. Start was uneventful with some nice close racing but no one being silly and trying anything too hard. A Renault come up behind me and I saw they were 2 on the doors so just let them go by as they were obviously much faster.

Came in to the pits end of lap 5 as the rain was getting close and knew to go on the wets thanks to reading all the posts here (thanks everyone, especially Moose!). But then for some stupid reason I hit Do not Refuel. Came out of the pits very annoyed with myself and hoping the track dries enough that another pit makes sense. Not many people came into the pits and those that did went for inters, so the next 2 laps had lots of spins and slow cars (and someone nicely punting me off as well). As the rain started to set in I started catching up all the people on inters but always had my fuel in the back of my mind.

Got myself up to P2 (P1 was some kind of youtube alien, 30 seconds ahead), but as the rain stopped the inters started catching just as I needed to pit for fuel. Put on some fresh IM and thought I put enough fuel in....Another driver had to pit as well so assume they made the same mistake. Came out in P7 with a 25s gap to P8, turns out only 10 people remained, the rest having quit as they got caught out by the rain.

Finished in P7 with 0 fuel but with the large gap behind it didn't matter. Very annoyed at myself for not refuelling and not sure whether to give it another go as a lot of people got caught out by the rain that might not next time.

Advice as always, go early!

Driving for Audi as I don't think I've done so before.
Attempt #1, 10am race Uk time: Qualified 9th, We all line up for rolling start which never starts...front 3 cars did a parade lap and rejoined the back of the grid then we just sat there for about 10 minutes before I left to go shopping ^^
Attempt #2, 12pm race UK time: Rushed the wife around the shops, she was not happy, so I could get back for the 12pm slot. Qualified 11th and then got absolutely smashed off at Les Combes. C'mon guys, it's lap 1 of 20 :( By the time I got myself sorted out I was far behind and would prefer to have lunch than try to catch up so hopefully a later slot goes better.

I watched an EMEA GT2 stream earlier that happened to get a strip of light rain. The driver managed to stay out to lap 7 before switching to IMs. They got one reasonably quick lap out before the moisture gauge hit the second tick mark, then struggled for the next 10 laps as the gauge stayed pinned there. Once the rain cleared on lap 17, the IMs improved considerably as the moisture gauge fell to around 40-50%.

Having see that, I'm thinking if there is enough rain that I need to switch tires, I'm going to choose the Ws. There don't seem to be enough drier laps to make the IMs worthwhile.

Best of luck to everybody who has yet to race!

I have seen a stream where the gauge never went to the 2 tick mark and the first got hit in lap 7. It seems like there are a number of possible patterns and there is no hard and fast rule.

Unfortunately even super light rain on the radar might trigger the 2nd tick but if it doesn't full wets would be really bad.

I will probably only get one race in tonight and will just play it by ear. Hopefully this thread will help my intuition.

I've managed to be 4th in 11 CET race. In earlier one I got hit twice and ended up 12.

I drove AMG, my best lap was low 2:11, average mid 2:22. Lap record was high 2:19. Started on medium tires, no rain, one mandatory pit stop around 11th lap to change for fresh mediums and refuel a bit just to make it to the end.

Key thing is good qualifiers (I was 5th) so you don't need to go through lower places and steady driving, try not to bump others as it's a long race and spin/bump/push can ruin you a whole deal. And don't go greedy - I was fighting for 3rd for like 8-9 laps going head to head with one Spaniard (most probably it was Serrano or Urra :P) but decided to let go on last straight so we both keep our positions instead of possible, unintentional collision.

Good race, love SPA, less this car (it was slower then what I practiced with matching horse power, no upgrades, mid tires), felt confident, but I won't do it again as TV will be occupied by other family members till late:)

Btw. anyone knows exactly when system counts your participation?
As after a race I had my thoughts still in a last lap and after going back to main menu unwary I went to sports, then clicked on event banner, and then I'm not sure if I clicked on participate or training. I think it was training as there was no time slots, but maybe I clicked through it fast? Though it was just after one race so signups wasn't open. Anyways, would be good not to get the effort wasted...

US first slot, GT2, high-ish B-lobby, door 6
(chose Toyota for the manufacturer, last time was Honda, earlier Suzuki, so I go through Japanese brands)

First race to get out of the pitlane early enough to get two shots at a fast lap. That went ok, qualified 5th (20.5).

Look at the weather radar, light green patch moving towards the circuit, but little further away than I normally saw in FP.
Slight error on the first laps made me loose a place, so I settled in 6th and tried to run a steady race.
Rain was slow to arrive, 5th lap, 6th, on 7th lap we saw first rise of the moisture gauge, but very small, so mediums were still ok.

Frankly I was watching what the drivers ahead of me were doing, so we stayed for 8th lap and then 9th lap as well, but that was it, the braking for last chicane was early and almost too hot. I see people ahead coming in, so did I.

Changed to IMs and refuelled. We went out, but immediately I saw that the drivers that pitted with me did not change the tires. RIP to them. Some people (from the lead and behind me) chose to go one more lap - bad call. I found some of them left and right around corners 12, 13-14-15, limping.

The one at the front (very fast driver in the BRZ) made it to the pits, but well, lost quite a lot of time, so on lap 11 I found myself leading the race. The chase was few seconds behind, but in truth, they were catching up fast. The moisture was only slightly over the frist tick so still conditions for IMs was proper. I was escaping the racing line as much as I could (as per good advice here), but that only postponed the inevitable. Got caught around lap 13 and it was a nice fight with the GT-R Nismo. Finally we entered Pouhon side by side, I was on the inside, so the safer place, but I took too much kerb while turning hard and spun "beautifully".
Nismo lifted early to avoid me and took the lead, lost two additional places for the 911 and the BRZ that was leading earlier.

GTWS25-Ex3-Manu1-spin.webp

Advantage over 5th was some 15 seconds, so I could manage somehow, but I must say even with over the full first tick of wet, the IMs were going bald fast.
The poor sod in the BRZ forgot to fuel enough and had to take the second stop, so I inherited the 3rd place, but with heavy breathing Ferrari on my back for the last lap. That was intense.

GTWS25-Ex3-Manu1-result.webp

Kinda lucky, but still a good call to come in on lap 9 allowed me to be this high. On pace I should be much lower, but well, I'll take those 105 points and run!

Sometimes I can't phantom that the reason I've decided to join an exhibition race, after spending half the year in single player only, was for the Power Pack even though I don't have a PS5 (yet). So, I've signed Jaguar up because I didn't want to take it too seriously, and maybe to give me a kick in "trying to get used to it" again.

I like the fact that the weather is randomized, which is great in keeping things interesting instead of predictable. Qualified in P12/P15 with a slightly high 2:19 time. Not too shabby, I thought. Everything was going okay-ish until the rain hits. I've pitted for inters as usual since the weather radar was not too heavy to warrant full wets at lap 5.
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps__4.webp

But it was something about general uneasiness I had about the car's characteristics, and how much I've prioritized staying afloat, that I wasn't giving my all as I had hoped for. I was simply driving too carefully for my own good. I've dropped from my consistent P10 position I've held up, down to P11. Then back to P12 (in lap 14) when I intentionally gave the Lambo the pass near the "Bus-stop" part of the track. To avoid any possible collisions as he was directly behind me. After being passed, I've pitted in for wets because all I wanted was to finish the race without too much stress.
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps_.webp

So, I've finished in P12 with 112 points to bag in what was a generally quiet race on my part. Of course, I was feeling pretty good about how I didn't crash in a dramatic manner, or finished last (considering one rage-quit, and another did the same by pitting to be 10-laps behind). However, I've made another mistake of chatting about how I got rusty in a joking manner. Where I got tagged in the chat (by the Lambo driver) as blunt as possible:

Of course, then comes watching back the replays, and there was another Jag in the grid that performed better, with inters!. I would have watched the replay as to how they've done to learn more. But with that reply lingering in my head, there was the added touch of brooding on my end. Thankfully I got some of that energy left to practice and try out Saturday's race, if I got the time.

Race 1 - GT2 - Americas - 11 AM EST - 126 points - Door #5 - Ford GT Race Car '18 - Q4 (2:20.534)
gtws-mc-rd1-78-start.webp

A pretty uneventful race. It was completely dry, as expected.

I lost some positions early on, including back-to-back punts at the Chicane and La Source at the end of lap 1 into lap 2. Picked some spots up later from crashed cars and penalty-takers. Pitted on lap 10 for fresh tires and fuel. Came over the line in P6 for 100 points and a 1.5% boost to my DR. Good enough. Not worth the trouble trying again for team Ford.

Race 2 - GT2 - Americas - 1 PM EST - 135 points - Door #15 - Subaru BRZ GT300 '21- Q5 (2:20.562)

The radar showed a band of light rain heading towards the track. Hurray!

It hit on lap 5 as usual, but was very slow to accumulate. It wasn't until lap 9 where parts of the track were showing moisture levels above the first tick mark. I went into the pits for IMs, expecting the water to continue to accumulate. I was the only driver to do so, and for a brief time I was feeling very smart about myself for my decision. I got back on the track. Drove a lap. It wasn't getting any wetter. Another lap. Still stuck a the first tick mark. My IMs were halfway worn already and I was bleeding time to all the other drivers. On lap 12, I went back into the pits to switch back to RMs, which of course put me far behind the rest of the field. I finished P10, last of the drivers who stayed to the finish. A drop of 1.3% on my DR. I didn't even pay attention to how many points I got. It doesn't matter. I plan to race again in the next slot at 7PM EST.

My first entry, finished 13th out of 16 cars.. Could've been 10th max.. Signing Mitsubishi contract wasn't very wise but I'm also not that fast, don't know how I'm keeping into B for so long.. On positive side it was all around S matchmaking and 100% clean race.. I think whole race was 100% clean which I never saw in normal races..

Same here, I span because too keen on the gas not because of others haha

I guess better luck for us next time :) Honestly I'd be happy just to finish all races on schedule... I think next track will be somewhat better for my driving and maybe car.. Also 3rd one Interlagos should be faster.. Even tho I messed up, it was very fun for me

Provisional 4th after my quali lap. Waiting for everyone to finish. Game freezes and then crashes to home screen. Wonderful.

One last slot at 9pm, hopefully that one works.
2nd time lucky I guess

Completely dry race. Took the lead on the Kemmel straight on lap 1. Lost it on lap 4. Retook it on lap 6 I think and then 14 very stressful laps trying to be consistent, not look at the mirrors or radar, and hold a slender 2 second lead.

Had to pit first on lap 10 as the Beetle (in my hands) is tough on the front tyres. Luckily pretty much everyone followed me in so no traffic to deal with.

No penalties, just one time offtrack at Bruxelles.

Only GT3 C/S but that’s my natural level without regular practice. All I still wanted from this game was a GTWS win and now that’s done. Anything from here is a bonus, I am content.

Tough race due to PPPPP.

Just had enough to to get into the final slot, except the RevoSim RS Pure wheel was still on the rig from the review...

Frantic disassembly (one of the pedal mounts requires pedal disassembly to access), refitted the T-GTII with 2:04 to spare... got prepped, sat down, realised the RS is mounted flat and the T-GT is angled... and I don't have the right allen to adjust the mount plate. Oh well. First big brake in qualifying, pedals moved. Hadn't bolted them in. Did a **** Q-lap, jumped out, bolted the brake side in, jumped back in for the race. And they're too far away.

Started 11th, got immediately passed because chicane start, got passed again, then... I have no idea what happened. I just caught and passed and caught and passed and caught and passed about five people over the next 10 laps. Didn't need fuel (48% is enough with a couple of short shifts in the RX-Vision), passed a guy in the pits as a result (by over a second), caught and passed and caught and passed another three people and two of the people ahead of me disconnected so I ended up fourth.

Fully dry; the rain never made it beyond the bottom at maximum range, and I don't think it ever actually moved.

77pt is the worst points haul I've ever seen for fourth in a high-B lobby. Also the winner lost DR (which is impossible; I guess he quit a Daily Race B to get into this race and the gain wasn't enough to offset the loss).

Also my shoulders are dead from the wheel being too high.

I am a high B driver in GT2 and also had a weirdly low scoring lobby in my only opportunity to race tonight. Only 84 points for the win when I am regularly in 110+ lobbies.

I had a funny triple whammy though. Another driver and I went 1-2 three times. Door 1 and door 2, Q1 and Q2 and then P1 and P2.

I am a bit sad that I screwed up Eau Rouge twice which cost me a clean race. Other than that it was pretty uneventful but still fun. I only traded places once with the driver starting P3 in the early laps. When they messed up the first chicane I was able to pass them on the outside and that was it.
1000020368.webp

In the end I found ever better pace and kept a steady distance to P1 for the last stint even trading fastest laps once but ultimately coming 2 hundredths short (of the FL).

No major crash in a completely dry race is a solid P2 for a meager 80 points.

Well this has to be the trickiest Round 1 I have ever done and it was Spa, how could it all go sooo wrong?

But anyways, tried the 5pm race and it went absymal due to my tyre strategy as it was a dry race and I wasn't expecting rain and rain, but no droplets emerged from the heavens, so it was dry throughout, me being the genius strategist thought ok little rain on radar, box and switch at lap 10 to Inters and boy was that a mistake. I lost so much places and pace and became 11th, only recovered 1 place overall till the end as one porsche guy ran out of fuel, i had to map the car to the finish line.

Then second time, 9pm last slot race in the Uk, much better this time, got a good qaulifying sesh and then bashed out the race, little chaotic to start as one guy had horrendous lag and was ping pongin all over the course, race and bashing other drivers including me. Almost was leading at one point as I did a late pitstop strategy by lap 11, but then lost it to change tyres and mini refuel following lap. Overall 9th place and not bad for Round 1, gotta practice more for the next rounds for this cup!
