One-and-done for me with a decent end to the season. I'm accustomed to starting and finishing towards the back at Watkins Glen so this has been a very good day for me today.
I qualified P6 with a 1:45.965 in a really tight qualifying. Pole position was in a league of his own with a 1:45.191 which was almost 6 tenths clear of P2, but P3-P8 were separated by less than a tenth.
I started on the Hards and was just thinking I need to try hold on at the start. My consistency at Watkins Glen is not great, and I found myself down to P7 by lap 3 and then P8 by lap 4 due to a Ferrari and Dodge respectively, but it turned out the Dodge was on Mediums.
The group ahead started dropping me a little whilst I had a Honda nipping at my heels, but I was back in the Ferrari's slipstream by the start of lap 7 after they slowed down a bit. I tried fighting with the Ferrari, but that didn't work out and I fell back again, before taking my pit stop at the end of lap 8.
I came back out in P14 and my out lap wasn't great. Just too restrained. I was back on top of the Ferrari during lap 10 whilst he started trying to fight with the Dodge, now on Hards. The Ferrari eventually got past on lap 12, and when I tried making a move on the Dodge at Toe he slammed the door shut on me. All their fighting and then my attempt had allowed the Honda right back up on top of me after I'd gapped him a little during the pit stops.
I tried attacking the Dodge at turn 1, but that didn't work out as it gave me a poor run up the Esses, and the Honda got a good one. Down in P9. The Honda got past the Dodge on lap 14 with a very aggressive dive at Toe, but they made contact. It forced the Dodge into picking up a track limits penalty so bit of foul play if you ask me. That track limits penalty then let me past without issue on the next lap.
From there I figured I'd be finishing P8, but the Honda wasn't done. The group up ahead was falling back due to being on Hards (or in the case of a Peugeot who pit really early, extremely worn Mediums) so there was a lot of fighting taking place. On lap 17, the Honda made a dive into Inner Loop and took out a Nissan in the process. P6.
Whilst it's not my best result this season, that's easily the most competitive race I've had during it. P1 was off doing his own thing whilst the rest of us were fighting, but it was pretty close the whole way for the rest of the top half of the grid.

Another P6 to add to my collection this season (that's the third one) and another 213 points which is a nice replacement for the 137 I got at the Nurburgring.
