So here I am, the final of the three planned races I wanted to take part in. I forgot to practice between all the work I was doing for both the update video AND the Weekly Challenges Guide so whatever idea of a race I had was simply what I read (which was 5x Tire wear and the Mandatory use of both Hard and Mediums). Chose to not qualify at all this time around as I wanted to experiment with a plan I had: 11 laps on Hards and then pit, leaving only 6 laps for the Mediums. That and with this being my first online race at Watkins Glen in over a decade, I was not taking a chance being the victim of a Turn 1 divebomb.

So started at the back, Door #13 (Which I sorta chuckled at and thought "Oh look, its the lucky number"). Took only half a lap before a initial overtake on the car in front of me and then another due to an off (A Ferrari off at Turn 13). Before I knew it, I was up fighting with a few cars and then got around a Jag. Seeing how scrappy things were getting (one fellow Lexus just shooting off to the left into the barrier after Turn 1 and then two cars off at the bus stop) and me being on the Hards, I decided to back out whenever someone clearly faster then me was approaching as I just wanted to survive so first the Ferrari that spun earlier caught me. Then I let the Jag back by as he was clearly faster (That and the fight ahead was slowing me down abit so I was never gonna get away). Then came a particularly sub-optimal moment when the Jag outbraked himself at the Bus Stop, I went right to avoid but could not escape his unsafe rejoin and got swiped into the grass. Keep the car straight and only lost two positions before getting back on the circuit. People started pitting about lap 7 or 8 and then as Lap 11 came, I pitted from 4th for Mediums and came out 13th. For the last 6 laps, it seemed there was an incident or a car getting a penalty for one reason or another so I was climbing up like crazy. With about 4 (or 3?) laps to go, I watched a White Ferrari 296 get the death wiggle and again shoot off into the barrier after Turn 1 followed by them leaving the room (Ragequit I assume), two laps to go I got past a Mercedes as they were serving the penalty and I stuck tight to the inside at the heel the boot, watching them struggle to maintain grip on what were clearly worn tires. Then the same thing in the same corner happened to the Jag that swiped me off earlier with 1 lap to go, followed a corner later by a Porsche in the wall at the back stretch.

Smooth sailing to a really solid 7th, best finish by far this season.

Not a bad amount of winnings having only completed 3 races this season (Though the last probably propped me up the most)

Can't say I'm as enthused about Nations Cup with only maybe 2 rounds seeming interesting to me.

A question that could be OT...

I see the driver Calster qualified as EMEA rapresentative for Subaru, but I have understood that he is a "controller driver".
On the other hand the GTWS Finals are done only with wheels...

So will he forced to race at the finals with the wheel or he can compete with the controller?

It's most likely the way the rigs are setup in the GTWS stage that he will be using a Wheel. Dan Solis was the same a few years back but he practiced with the controller back then I think. I dont think it will be too different for Calster to get used to and I wish him all the best of luck in it! He is a quick dude on controller!

I had thought about it. I'm from India but my country isn't listed amongst Asian countries. Even South East Asian countries are listed but not mine which is why U.S. is selected by default. I thought username would be enough.

Can I see this info within Sport mode on my console?

@VTEC Driver Calster is aware about this. Many of his ardent fans asked him about this. I can't remember his reply. I think a controller can be used otherwise he will need some time to adjust & it's not a given he will be as fast or faster with a wheel.

Nonetheless, it's an achievement of sorts to qualify with a controller.

Crazy fact - Of the three that are top in Subaru & helped Subaru qualify, I came to know that other than Calster, one more of the remaining two players is also a controller player. So that's wow they got Subaru in the top 12. I believe Subaru was ranked 9th at the end which is crazy good.

I visited the GT website & located the page where the Manu event info is put up but the stats for my Manu event are empty. Anyone knows why? I received 4.75m cr for my 5 races but all info is missing!

India isn't in the Asia-Oceania region, nor in the Americas region. it's in EMEA.

Logging into your account on the website via virtually any EMEA nation would suffice. Logging in via an Americas or Asia-Oceania nation would return the wrong championship.

It's been a while since I drove for Citroën, so things might have changed since then with the BoP, but I don't remember having any issues with its handling. The engine revs high, so it drinks a lot of fuel. And it has tiny windows, so if you are driving in VR or cockpit view you'll have limited visibility. Other than that, I remember it being a pretty solid car.

I'd recommend you drive it for yourself and see how you like it. The Gr.3 events in single player mode have the BoP enabled. I find they can be a good testing ground for trying out different cars in the category.

I always have this problem: when I want to test tire wear or fuel consumption, I have to record the car's horsepower and weight to create my own race later. Is there a simpler way to do this?

If you do any event in the "GT Cup Gr.3" series, BOP is enabled.

Same with "GT Cup Gr.4", only not as relevant because it's not Gr.3.

Yep. Something much simpler. There is a BoP setting in the Custom Race settings. You just need to set it to 'On' to apply the BoP to the car you are driving.
 
A little late reporting in, but not a lot to report, really.

Did slots 1 and 10 at the Glen on Saturday. Slot 1 was horrible, really dirty lobby combined with no pace in the new Porsche saw me start and finish last. 58 points and not enough to improve on my lowest 66 points. Thought I'd call it a day.

Decided to do slot 10 as I had nothing to lose, so took the trusty RSR out and still had next to no pace, but did manage to get 70 points to actually improve my score which actually won my friends list, so there's that.

An OK season with a podium at Dragon Trail Gardens and a 3rd at the Ring being the highlights.

I feel my place is high to mid DR-B lobbies, but I really don't do much other than GTWS and would probably improve with more online competitions.

Again thanks to all for the tips, the testing and the race reports. It really makes these seasons a lot more enjoyable. Just wish I saw some of you in my races.

Its Wednesday and im sad that I have no event race to look forward to after work.

This is the best thing about this game. Balanced lobbies, mostly clean racing and just pure competitive focus. How long until the next one ?

Talk about being so late, but then again the last round in the Manufacturer's Cup wasn't much to ride home about the Jag. But that's how it's always been.

Started in P10 with a 1:46.252 lap time. Managed to make hold of a BRZ and a 296 before my grip slightly gave in. It was fun doing these defense/attack battles, but the whole journey has been a whole Goldilocks experience. Not too slow, nor too fast. Just somewhere in the middle where it isn't too good, nor too bad.

Finish P7 with 167 points to bag from 223-points maximum. Finished P5 in the Jaguar standings with 878 points tallied. 300th regionally which gave me one conclusion. The next time it happens again, I might as well go with the 'stronger' choices. Again, I do enjoy driving the Jag but you might as well put me in purgatory if I ever want to touch it again.

For the upcoming Nations Cup? I might join a few rounds, although I won't be doing the last round in advance due to time constraints.

Yep, Rounds 3 and 6 are the only ones interesting to me. Even as someone who likes Open Wheel cars, this is abit too much and lacks alot of variety.

Depends on the specified cars for 3. 1 could be fun, even more so with rain. A pity that CGV and Suzuka get lumbered with the Red Bull, a no-go for me. The B layout is the least objectionable variant of Sainte-Croix so that could be ok. Not really a fan of Gr2 racing so that one would be a pass.

I just miss the variety we had in previous seasons, the likes of the Radical and Prius races. I suspect the Gr3 and high downforce stuff is a carrot from PD to the top split donkeys pros to get them to keep participating. It would be so much better if they had their own competition and the masses could have some of the fun back.

I didn’t know that round 3 was gr3 cars at Nurburgring gp. I might join… except I won’t be home during the week that date and won’t bother bringing my ps5 with me🙃. Oh well would have ben nice.
 
Hey guys, please check out my final race (round 6) in the manus cup, it was very fun and a great battle for p1 & p2 positons for me. Looking forward to the Nations cup next week!

What's always made sense in my head is that, since the live events invariably use the X2019, they don't want someone qualifying for Nations purely on low-downforce car skill and then not being able to handle the Red Bull.

They should totally have other, more fun events for everyone who isn't super A+ to compensate for that though, no arguments there!
 
This is going to sounds like an odd question, but in the Asia/Oceania region of GTWS, did anyone successfully manage to bump-draft? Either pushing or being pushed.

Every time I tried to push someone or make it obvious that pushing me to catch up to the pack in front is fine, they start weaving!

I was convinced this was going to be another "tyre management special" like the Gr.3 rounds at Autopolis (MR selection) and Maggiore (FR selection) were last year, with RS the only available dry tyre and high tyre multipliers.

Instead it's RM and "only" 5x, which for a 20-lapper looks fairly nailed on for a 1-stop... except 2 stops are mandatory so might as well grab new rubber each time. Unless it rains...

This is the only NC round I'll do in all probability, add me to the list of "super-fast, super-twitchy, super-high-downforce? Nein danke". And I don't really like Fuji so I'll skip the Gr.2 round as well, leaving this one.
