Weird question, but what's the closet car in terms of gearing to the GR3 Viper? I need to look for a replay to study, but it's all 911s, Ferrari and Audi mostly with replays

Super behind on this but after years of only either going with Toyota or Lexus (Purely out of "Safety" and all that), decided to venture out and try a new manufacturer:

No practice for this as I was more so getting a feel for racing this car in a competitive environment so no real strategy and purposely didn't qualify. I would've never attempted this with a Mid Engined car in Sport as it felt like apart from the Renault and Porsche, they all wanted to kill me (Mostly the Volkswagen siblings as well as the Ferrari) so it was a nice change of pace to not be terrified driving one. Finishing the race with no major mistakes mattered more to me then the position and I definitely ticked that box.

Tonight should be abit different. Did some practice yesterday not expecting to be quick and solely just to be used to the conditions so I can take advantage of the many who aren't rain meisters (Which is ALOT of people), but first signs seem to indicate I might actually be decent.

I was happy for this repeat as it was my worst race last season I wanted to do better.
High GT2 lobbies with my Beetle.
1st race I qualified 5th, slipped out of the chikane first lap and came into the pack in p12. Kept my place for a few laps before I managed to nudge a jaguar mid hairpin spinning him 😬 Went too wide in the S-es later same lap. I'm finding it really hard to race in a tight pack in the wets. Finished bottom 5. Another poor race at Gardens...

2nd race started much better. Qualified P1 with a 31.1xx, better than my practice time!
Was overtaken going a bit wide in the Quad-apex corner but kept my p2 position through an otherwise uneventful IM stint. Pitted for RM after lap 11 and was held up a bit by a driver further back before he pitted lap 12. Gained slowly on P1 but couldn't quite catch him. Really happy with a p2 finish and finally managing a clean wet race! 💪

On another note: I wish the ghosting wasn't so quick to kick in. On my jaguar rear nudge I feel I could have kept him straight with a side nudge as he was kind of beside me, but with the instant ghost my nudge was an instant KO. Sorry!

EMEA GT3 - Q3 P9

As you can guess from above it wasn’t a memorable race… but this is the prize to pay for not having practiced at all.

Qualified in P3 with 1:43.5 I was even capable to do the temporary fastest lap with 143:3 but the race was not the right one I understood at lap 2 when at the chicane I was kicked out and several cars overtook me.

Now I am in P11 and I am faster than the guys in front of me but luckily they did some mistakes and I gained position to P6.

Changed IM to RM at the end of lap 11 and everything was fine but the following lap at T1 I reached a guy exiting from pit and trying to overtake him on the wet side it wand the right idea… and this was the first “grass meeting”.

After some laps I did exactly the same mistake twice (yes why not) at the last curve before the main straight going to much on the right and the car was like on the ice…
I was even kicked out all the times by the cars coming behind me.

Now I am again on the back at P9 were I finished the race with low enthusiasm so I didn’t even tried to get a better position.

It is a pity because the RCZ is quite pleasant to drive and just staying on the track it could have been an easy podium.

That’s all. Let’s see the next one.

Today I noticed there is a cup (haven't touched online since last year) and since I'm familiar with the track I decided to participate. 15min practice, then first try Q5, P10 (was pushed off on the last corner) + 3s penalty for yellow flag overtaking (I have no idea when that happened). 2nd try much better: Q4, P2 for most of the race, but I spinned terribly on lap 14 so I finished P5. Two hours of VR racing for today is definitely enough :)

Some mixed results, but fun racing all around.

Race 1 - GT2 - Americas - 11AM EDT - Chevrolet Corvette C7 Gr.3 - 127 points available - Door #15 - Q3 (1:32.590)
gtws-mc-rd3-78.webp

I couldn't hold on to my Q3 position for long. For the first three laps it felt like every corner I was getting bumped out wide by the car behind. I don't think any of it was malicious. Maybe I was braking earlier than most in this car. Whatever the reason, I eventually settled around P8.

I'd started on IMs and pitted on lap 11 for RMs.

Another bump from behind on the final double-apex corner on lap 13, sent me off the dry line onto the wet tarmac. I glided serenely into the wall. Down to P10.

Unsurprisingly, I wasn't the only one involved in incident. Before long, I was in a battle for P6 with a McLaren. Some good, clean racing right to the finish (pictured above).

P7 for 95 points and 1.3% increase in my DR B progress, taking it to 76.1%.

Race 2 - GT2 - Americas - 12PM EDT - Alfa Romeo 4C Gr.3 - 122 points available - Door #3 - Q4 (1:32.750)
gtws-mc-rd3-79.webp

The start of this race was the exact opposite of the prior one. Almost immediately I had some buffer behind me and was able to brake for corners without worry of being bumped from behind. I was easily keeping up with the P3 car and settling into a rhythm.

That all came to an end on lap 7, when I went for a spin on lap 8. I only dropped a couple positions to P6 as a result, but the leaders were well out of sight, along with my hopes of a podium finish.

I followed the same strategy as the prior race: 11IM-9RM.

But then something happened, or, more accurately, several things happened. To other drivers. Ahead of me. One by one, I was working my way up the field as other drivers were taken out in incidents. By lap 17, I found myself fighting for the lead with a Jaguar.

Some more hard, clean racing, but I was never able to get an overtake done. I'd have to be content with P2, which I was. 122 points and a 5.1% increase to my DR B progress, taking it to 81.4%. Fastest lap, too, which is very rare for me. Couldn't be happier.

Next up, Sardegna. RM and RS tires. Should be fun.

Didn’t get a lot of practice in this week, which was fine as I would only be able to race on my EU alt this afternoon.

First slot, bottom feeder A+ lobby with 255 points up for grab. Qualified 2nd with a high 1:39, made a move at the hairpin and checked out for the win

Slot 3 I landed in a 275 point lobby, didn’t get a clean lap and landed 12th on the grid. Got pinballed a bit and unfortunately did some pinball it myself. Decided to go for an undercut at end of lap 10, and it worked as by the end of the pit cycle, I ended up in 4th (I think I was maaaaaaaybe in 8th or 9th when I pitted).

What an absolute nightmare Round 3 for the Manus cup at Dragon Trails, my best reuslt came in at Race 3 where I placed 6th overall. A very tricky and sketchy raace in the rain, where easy mistakes can happen and the weather is not on your side.

That race went pretty well, apart from 1 little incident early in the race.

I qualified in P9. I was in P5 but then i just missed out on starting a 3rd qualifying lap, so tumbled down the leaderboard a little bit.

The race got off to a good start. During the opening lap of the race, i gained a couple of positions. First one was at the exit of the up hill chicane, after the Genesis in front of me got a poor exit, then 1 corner later, a yellow and black Porsche got out of shape, and then at the start of the quad right hander complex, a default livery Porsche got squeezed by another Porsche and a Lambo, which cause it to spin out.

The during lap 2, at the exit of the corner just before the quad right hander, i unfortunately had a little bit of contact with a South African Porsche after they had a poor exit from the corner. I did try and use my car as a wall to try and stop their car from spinning but unfortunately it never worked, and then i got rear ended by the yellow and black Porsche, which shunted me forward.

Looking back at the replay, I'am surprised that the Porsche spun since the contact was very minimal/soft, plus i never hit them at a sharp angle, we were pretty much side by side. The wet conditions probably didn't help. Also looking back, i kinda feel bad for not stopping.

After getting rear ended by the yellow and black Porsche, i ran slightly wide at the quad right hander, which allowed the yellow and black Porsche to overtake me. I ended up re-overtaking them at the end of lap 4 going into the braking zone for the final corner, since they got on the brakes pretty early.

I was now in P4, and i spent the rest of the inter stint chasing the Lambo in P3. I got the gap down to 1 second but i couldn't close in any further. I entered the pits at the end of lap 10 to put on mediums and that allowed me to close the gap on the Lambo, because when they left the pits at the start of lap 12, i was now right on their gearbox.

Then towards the end of lap 12 at the quad right hander, the Lambo ran slightly wide on to the damp area, which allowed me to move into P3. I spent the rest of the race with Lambo on my gearbox. Then at the start of lap 16, i jumped into P2 after the Grellow Porsche that was P1, went off track at T1.

In the end i finished in P2, which I'm really happy with since it's my first podium in a while. Overall this combo was once again really fun.

I was racing against that same Mclaren weeks ago. Poor dude had abit of shocker from what I saw in the replay of that race.

Last round went poorly in the end. A bit of binning, a bit of (deliberately) getting forced off. Oh well. It was quite fun though. Qualified 2bd . 001 off first and had decent pace in the rain but then it all unravelled.

On another note I already did a lot of testing for Sardegna and it looks quite promising. PB in FP is only a second off the fastest Viper on the board.

Also did a test race. Decent pace and good feel for the car track combo so far. No stopper on mediums. This was the final tire degradation:

I shared a replay of the test race. Might be instructive for you and the very few other Dodge drivers that might be in here. I tagged it with gtplanet, gtp and gtws.

Most important is short shifting roughly at the end of the gear indicator. Power drops off massively once you get close to the limiter in the Viper Gr. 3 under BoP.

Do you not have to use both R and M for this race?

Indeed you do need to use both compounds...

Oh. Nice catch. Then I need to figure out how long I can make the softs last in the likely case that I don't start up front and would want to start on mediums then.

Conveniently, it’s half the wear rate of the Sardegna 800pp grind race. You can earn some credits while getting a rough idea of how many laps your car will do on RS.

Good idea. However this race is without BoP. Therefore quite a bit more power meaning probably a bit more wear on the tires. I managed to get 5 laps out of them with the 8x multiplier here. Therefore I would hope that 10 will be doable in the GTWS race.

I guess I will still do another test race under BoP.

I've done a couple rounds of strategy tests at Sardegna in each of the cars that I'm competing in: Chevy Corvette, and Alfa 4C.

I did 11 laps on each of the required tire compounds. For weather, I used Afternoon C02 (equal conditions mode).

Here's how things are looking for me.

Using the lap times from the tests, I simulated all the possible strategies (4RS-11RM to 11RS-4RM). These were the fastest three for each car:

It looks like 6RS-9RM is the sweet spot for me in both cars, but all of these options are very tightly packed. It looks like there are quite a few viable strategy options that could work.

Started 14th, finished 8th. Was in 6th despite a few mistakes, braked on the kerb at turn 2 on lap 15 and that was that

I'm really not satisfied with how I'm preparing for races this season and it seems to be showing itself in my performances. I like Sardegna though, I'm hopeful for there.

I completely forgot about this.. I'm tempted to do some race, but I also kinda realize I'm in GT1 league which might be disaster for me 😆

is there any race left where Ferrari will be meta?

Last time I completed all races but in Mitsubishi and it was pain, but last time I was in GT2 league, Im scared of GT1 😆

I don't know if it will be the META, but it should be competitive for the last three rounds. It the very least, you won't be alone if that's what you choose. It seems to be the second most popular choice, behind the Porsche.

Keep in mind, though, that Rd.5 is in Gr.4 cars, so you will be limited to the old 458 for that race.

Feeling pretty good about this race. First time practicing a lot in a long time is paying off. Managed a 1:41 flat in the Viper which has me feeling hopeful in my high B GT 2 lobbies. I also managed to become somewhat consistent which is rare for me.

Please tell me that you scored a fast lap time! I am rusty and faaaaaaaar away... Well done, mate!

All the best everyone for today's Sardegna Track A. :gtpflag:

I ran a few laps in the TT yesterday in my chosen manu - AMG. Was able to belt my fastest lap in 1:41:7xx which is decent for my upper DR B rating.

In my secondary a/c, I'll be using a RCZ which will feel much more different than the AMG'20 but it shall be fun. For this a/c, I've reached lower DR B level.

I guess it doesn't want me to play today. Network errors keeps booting me out.

GT2 EMEA 1st Slot high B lobby 140 points up for grabs

Qualifying managed a 1.41.5 which was 0.5 quicker than anything I'd driven before and enough to get me pole! Decided to start on RM, thinking I would be ok losing a few places at the start to then gain them back at the end rather than wasting RS if I made a mistake and ended up in traffic.

Race started ok, I couldn't break away from the Porsche behind me but luckily could see they were getting hounded by an Aston Martin behind them which I think kept them occupied but it was clear the Aston was on RS so expected them to get me eventually. Managed to hold on to 1st when the pit window opened, sure enough the Aston pitted on Lap 6 for RM so relaxed a bit, then went in on Lap 9 for RS when the Porsche behind me came in and very surprisingly saw that they were on RS!

Thought this would pretty much give me the win now as I could pull away from P2 as I was on the better tyre. Was a bit shocked when I came out of the pits and a different Porsche just beat me to T1 but I didn't bother fighting as assumed they would still need to pit.

After a few laps it becomes evident they are not going to pit, but their pace didn't suggest they were on worn RM which was a bit confusing. I accidentally gave them a small tap in one of the slow corners pushing them off line but kept going as still assumed they were going to pit. When it became clear they weren't, and they started closing the gap I slowed to let them take the lead and then had to defend very hard against the P2 Porsche, and just managed to hold them off to the finish line.

Was disappointed in my race form as I felt I was very ragged and not delivering my best, but I think I'll stick with my P2 and 136 points.

Just did this weeks, been working away so little practice but the Sardegna money grind knowledge came through, GT2 low B lobby, qualified 3rd with a 1:42.9 - dropped to 4th for a lap or two but then retook 3rd and was pulling away.

Used the Moose intel as usual and came in end of lap 6 for mediums, came out in 9th and slowly reeled everyone in. 4th place was slowly catching up though and I realised they had started on the mediums, in the end with a couple of small mistakes they caught me up on lap 13, eventually got overtaken start of lap 14, had a small chance to retake when they went wide but probably would have meant we both crashed. Could maybe have pushed another lap on softs but I finished 1.5 secs behind 3rd In the end finished 5th at the line but the winner never changed tyres so got a 2 min penalty so came home for 4th and 60 points.

Yeah. Was a miracle lap. I wasn't able to beat a 41.5 since. I usually screw the slow exits the super fast left hander towards the end and/or the long winded left hander before the wind turbines. There are so many parts of this track where you can easily lose half a second.

I will do my first race shortly and hope to get a clean lap done and get into the 41s.

Good luck to everyone still to race and I hope to see some of you there 😉
